Has anyone here read The Essence of War: Leadership and Strategy from the Chinese Military Classics by Ralph D. Sawyer?

I have read almost all of the book and it is quite intriguing I would like to discuss it with someone else who has read it.

The Grand Histories were written by Sima Qian, correct? Are they any true decendants left of him around or has the line been so screwed up that it cannot be told?

I recently bought the Book of War, which includes both Sun Tzu's Art of War and Karl von Clausewtiz On War. It's an excellent read so far, and I reccomend it to anyone who's interested in military theology. On War can be a bit slow or dull at times, but I find it fascinating. So if you're interested in military history or theology, I'd reccomend looking at your local book store for a copy. Cheap too, only 20 U.S. dollars.

I've read 'Mastering the art of war' by Zhuge Liang, and 'The Art of war' by our favourite little tactician, Sun Tzu.

Let's discuss startegy. I couldn't remember the classics of ancient china, and my friend borrowed my Sun Tzu: The Art of War. I have no books on strategy.

well, I have a copy of Art Of War, but its the online version (link @ www.kongmin.net ) but I am yet to read it.

I can't stand reading it online. Its so long and I much prefer to read a book than stare at a screen each night. I prefer to buy the texts personally.

well, I would buy it, but I dont know where from. And all my money is going towards dynasty warriors 5, so the online version is the next best thing.

Does anyone know of any books by Cao Cao by any chance?

Well, he wrote that Treatise of Meng De or whatever you see in the games, but had it burned because it was a copy off of the Art of War. Depending upon the copy of the Art of War you get, though, you might find some comments from T'sao T'sao, which is him.
