The winter invasion of Chu commenced with Zhu Lizhi's forces crossing the Great River from Yin into the fertile farmlands of Chu, which had remained almost untouched by war since Zhang Han had been broken in Zhao by Xiang Yu. Now, the great Hegemon King himself was being attacked, and the mighty province of Chu responded to his call to arms. In the south, the mighty veteran army under the lead of Duke Ma Dieu crossed the rivers that divided Jiujiang from Chu himself, and his armies feinted an attack towards the cities of Yangcheng and Guling. Xiang Yu, his great army camped south of Chen, marched to meet the invaders, leaving a strong garrison in the city of Chen to handle Zhu Lizhi's force, should they choose to attack him there.
The feint worked, however, and Ma Dieu's armies, behind a screen of cavalry, took the road to Xiangcheng, where he was met by Zhu Lizhi's fast-moving army, which had bypassed Chen without giving battle. The move, however, did not work totally in Ma Dieu's favor, however. Xiang Yu, having found no one at Guling, split his massive force in a pincer movement, sending men both west and south to wheel on Ma Dieu's forces.
The brave Ma Dieu, however, was in Chu to give battle to the Hegemon King, and on the hilly terrain of southwest Chu, the mighty armies came together in preparation of a terrible conflict. No Parley banners were exchanged. Xiang Yu would not show mercy to a traitor, and peace was a concept alien to Ma Dieu's mind.
When Guan Huang began his drunken song, Xiang Yu watched him from before his command tent. His hand twitched at the hilt of his blade, and he contemplated riding out to silence to vile bandit then and their. Finally, with a snarl, he pointed at Xiang Zhuang.
"Forget Ma Dieu. Rid them of that man."
With a confident smile, Xiang Zhuang bowed and swung up onto his horse and kicked it out onto the plain. With a roar, he sped toward Guan Huang, who had started back to his own lines, having finished his song. His words rang out across the plain.
"Tremble, for a Xiang comes for you! You may call us pigs, but we will see what a pig can do against an insect like you!!"

Xiang Zhuang streaked towards his larger opponent, leaning low over the neck of his horse. As they closed, suddenly he pulled sharply on his reins, and Guan Huang, who had been preparing a vicious blow as they approached, was left swinging wildly at nothing. The momentum of his swing almost flung him bodily from the saddle.
Smirking, Xiang Zhuang pointed his blade at Guan. "If you spent more time riding your horse, and less time, letting your horse ride you, you might be more successful as a warrior."
Already embarassed by his wild swing, the taunt stung, and Guan Huang roared, driving his horse towards the Sworddancer. The taunt, however, did not help Xiang Zhuang in the way he was hoping, as Guan's fury lent weight to his blows. Xiang, relying desperately on his attempts at counterattack couldn't even find time to strike back as the Monster of Changsha drove his massive warhorse relentlessly into Xiang Zhuang's smaller steed. By the second bout, Xiang Zhuang was in fear for his life at the ferocious attack, and his fear translated to his defense, allowing Guan Huang to hack through his guard and leave a badly bleeding gash on his sword arm.
Panicked, Xiang wheeled his horse and kicked its flanks, certain the faster, lighter animal would return him to his lines. But it was not to be. With a surge, Guan Huang's heavier horse sent his stumbling, and the Monster of Changsha brought the haft of his heavy axe down on the back of Xiang's neck.
The cousin of Xiang Yu fell from his horse with a thud, and Guan Huang's roar of triumph could be heard for only a moment before the answering roar from Ma Dieu's army swelled across the field.

After the defeat of Xiang Zhuang, Xiang Yu's usual grimness became a calculating fury. His orders were snapped out in a cold voice that had men running to fulfill their orders with alacrity. His instructions were for his army to strike Ma Dieu's pitiful little force in the morning, and Xiang Yu was going to break it, and every man in it would be put to the blade. There was no mercy in his heart.
Orders went out through the army for the men to have a full meal and to prepare food early in the morning in preparation for the attack. Xiang Yu would make sure his men had full bellies when they went to the contest. His cold fury, however, left him without one key piece of information: His men would not have full bellies.
For the past three days, Tian Rong and Kong Ming had been causing havoc in Xiang Yu's supply lines, destroying caravans, burning supply wagons, and trashing supply depots. Yu's supply officers, terrified by his wrath, had not passed along the information to the Mighty General - and he proceeded as if nothing was amiss.
Despite their empty bellies, however, the next morning the army formed up in a brilliant array. Duke Hin Wu commanded the archers and started his few seige engines firing bolts and stones across the wide field between the two armies. Lu Chen and Yang Chou delivered speeches to the frontline troops, reminding them of their vast superiority in numbers. The soldiers themselves were split into a line of spearmen with two massive units of heavy cavalry disposed on either wing. Xiang Yu rode at the head of the left, and Peng Yue commanded the right, with Ji Xin, Long Ju and Cao Can commanding the left, right and center of the primary line.
Ma Dieu, on the other side of the field, had eschewed traditional chain of command and taken command of his defensive lines next to Suo Yang alone. Two small, fast moving cavalry units were hidden in a nearby gully, commanded by Huo Zhi Kai and Tai Ju Li. The rest of his officers were leading raiding parties against Xiang Yu's supply lines. It was a thin command structure for so many men, and Ma Dieu knew it. His strategy depended on starving Xiang Yu's forces while he held off the Hegemon King.
When the sun reached a few feet above the Horizon, Xiang Yu raised his blade, and horns and drums thundered. The entire front line of Xiang Yu began advancing in a mass. When the cavalary units reached the bottom of the low hill where Ma Dieu's men stood waiting, Xiang Yu again raised his sword and, with a scream, the two cavalry units thundered into action.
They came on in a thunderous wave, driving in a wedge at two points in the middle of Ma Dieu's line. The Entrenchments prepared bo Suo Yang slowed some of the charging horses, but there were too many men for Ma Dieu's attempt to form a spearwall to succeed. With a mighty crash, Xiang Yu and Peng Yue shattered the lines of Ma Dieu's army, breaking it into pieces, and pouring into the breaches. The furious screams of the Hegemon could be heard above the din as he laid into the traitor's lines and called for Ma Dieu to face him on the field of battle.
With the success of the cavalry, Ji Xin, Long Ju and Cao Can whipped their men into a frenzy, and the spearmen smashed into the shattered ranks of Ma Dieu's army, slaughtering men by the score. The bloodbath was horrendeous.
Despite the murderous slaughter on the other side of the small valley, the two small cavalry forces Ma Dieu had hidden in the gully struck with complete suprise against the support troops of Hin Wu. Tai Ju Li unleashed a series of confusing attacks from multiple directions, and then Huo Zhi Kai struck with the force of a beserker, screaming for Hin Wu's head. Duke Hin, confused by the many attacks, desperately managed to confuse Huo Zhi Kai in king, but his men still took quite a beating before the two generals drew off as the sun began to fall in the sky.
The battle on the two hills had raged all day long. Thousands lay dead, and more thousands had broken and ran in terror. When Xiang Yu finally ordered his men to fall back, he surveyed the carnage with satisfaction. He would repeat this the next day.
And he did. Though his men were further weakened by the lack of supplies, news of which still had not reached Xiang Yu's ears, Xiang Yu once again successfully breached the lines of the enemy force and slaughtered more men. This time, however, his men were slower, less aggressive, exhausted, and hungry. It was Ma Dieu's army that got the better of the engagement, and by the next day, Xiang Yu's officers could not hide what was causing Xiang's men to move so slowly. Their supplies were spent.
Furious, Xiang Yu had the supply officers boiled, and then turned his attention to Ma Dieu. He would give one last effort to break him completely, and he rode out. Though his assault succeeded in breaching Ma Dieu's lines again, his men had no energy to take advantage of their assault, and they were driven out with great losses by a counterattack by Ma Dieu.
The two armies drew back, licking their wounds. Ma Dieu's army was dramatically smaller, but Xiang Yu's was weakened and sick from lack of food. The battle for Chu still hangs in the balance.

The Righteous Hegemonic Army has won the Entire Engagement.
Orders went out through the army for the men to have a full meal and to prepare food early in the morning in preparation for the attack. Xiang Yu would make sure his men had full bellies when they went to the contest. His cold fury, however, left him without one key piece of information: His men would not have full bellies.
For the past three days, Tian Rong and Kong Ming had been causing havoc in Xiang Yu's supply lines, destroying caravans, burning supply wagons, and trashing supply depots. Yu's supply officers, terrified by his wrath, had not passed along the information to the Mighty General - and he proceeded as if nothing was amiss.
Despite their empty bellies, however, the next morning the army formed up in a brilliant array. Duke Hin Wu commanded the archers and started his few seige engines firing bolts and stones across the wide field between the two armies. Lu Chen and Yang Chou delivered speeches to the frontline troops, reminding them of their vast superiority in numbers. The soldiers themselves were split into a line of spearmen with two massive units of heavy cavalry disposed on either wing. Xiang Yu rode at the head of the left, and Peng Yue commanded the right, with Ji Xin, Long Ju and Cao Can commanding the left, right and center of the primary line.
Ma Dieu, on the other side of the field, had eschewed traditional chain of command and taken command of his defensive lines next to Suo Yang alone. Two small, fast moving cavalry units were hidden in a nearby gully, commanded by Huo Zhi Kai and Tai Ju Li. The rest of his officers were leading raiding parties against Xiang Yu's supply lines. It was a thin command structure for so many men, and Ma Dieu knew it. His strategy depended on starving Xiang Yu's forces while he held off the Hegemon King.
When the sun reached a few feet above the Horizon, Xiang Yu raised his blade, and horns and drums thundered. The entire front line of Xiang Yu began advancing in a mass. When the cavalary units reached the bottom of the low hill where Ma Dieu's men stood waiting, Xiang Yu again raised his sword and, with a scream, the two cavalry units thundered into action.
They came on in a thunderous wave, driving in a wedge at two points in the middle of Ma Dieu's line. The Entrenchments prepared bo Suo Yang slowed some of the charging horses, but there were too many men for Ma Dieu's attempt to form a spearwall to succeed. With a mighty crash, Xiang Yu and Peng Yue shattered the lines of Ma Dieu's army, breaking it into pieces, and pouring into the breaches. The furious screams of the Hegemon could be heard above the din as he laid into the traitor's lines and called for Ma Dieu to face him on the field of battle.
With the success of the cavalry, Ji Xin, Long Ju and Cao Can whipped their men into a frenzy, and the spearmen smashed into the shattered ranks of Ma Dieu's army, slaughtering men by the score. The bloodbath was horrendeous.
Despite the murderous slaughter on the other side of the small valley, the two small cavalry forces Ma Dieu had hidden in the gully struck with complete suprise against the support troops of Hin Wu. Tai Ju Li unleashed a series of confusing attacks from multiple directions, and then Huo Zhi Kai struck with the force of a beserker, screaming for Hin Wu's head. Duke Hin, confused by the many attacks, desperately managed to confuse Huo Zhi Kai in king, but his men still took quite a beating before the two generals drew off as the sun began to fall in the sky.
The battle on the two hills had raged all day long. Thousands lay dead, and more thousands had broken and ran in terror. When Xiang Yu finally ordered his men to fall back, he surveyed the carnage with satisfaction. He would repeat this the next day.
And he did. Though his men were further weakened by the lack of supplies, news of which still had not reached Xiang Yu's ears, Xiang Yu once again successfully breached the lines of the enemy force and slaughtered more men. This time, however, his men were slower, less aggressive, exhausted, and hungry. It was Ma Dieu's army that got the better of the engagement, and by the next day, Xiang Yu's officers could not hide what was causing Xiang's men to move so slowly. Their supplies were spent.
Furious, Xiang Yu had the supply officers boiled, and then turned his attention to Ma Dieu. He would give one last effort to break him completely, and he rode out. Though his assault succeeded in breaching Ma Dieu's lines again, his men had no energy to take advantage of their assault, and they were driven out with great losses by a counterattack by Ma Dieu.
The two armies drew back, licking their wounds. Ma Dieu's army was dramatically smaller, but Xiang Yu's was weakened and sick from lack of food. The battle for Chu still hangs in the balance.

The final post is... :) I think this new guy remove only few troops, but the supply is reduce by 1% if I am not mistaken. My tactics will be ready if nothing more is change :)
