August 206 The Battle on the Road to Qianzhong

Shen Feng dispatches his Southern Suppression Force and Garrison to join Baocen Peng and attack Deng Yue's city of Zhu, but before he can link up with his ally, he encounters Deng Yue's Changsha Provincial Army moving against his own city of Qianzhong.


This battle will be run by ann. There was an issue with the invasion submission and until this is straightened out no forces will be posted. Deng Yue may choose to fight here or retreat to Zhu where the forces opposed to him will be combined.

Shen Feng wasn't surprised to see the army of Deng Yue approaching his forces as they marched to Zhu. After all, it had been just last month that he'd attempted this same ploy himself, to great success, destroying Tong Hanli. The difference was that Feng was prepared for it. The enemy army looked as though it outnumbered his, but not by a large margin at all. This battle would surely be winnable. Turning, he spoke to his officers and the soldiers nearby.

"We have them backed into a corner, men! Even now, Baocen Peng marches on Zhu to hit them from behind. If they choose to press on against us, they shall have nowhere to retreat. Zhu will be ours even before this battle is won. This, then, is our chance to eradicate his main army, to end the threat of Deng Yue to the southland! With his army crippled, our duty shall be nearly complete, and the south will again know peace. Forward, men! We shall seize victory!"

(One little mistake I noticed, Shen Feng only has Rally 1, but I listed him as having 2 there. Can that please be fixed?)

In August, as farmers prepared for harvest, the bitter rivals Deng Yue and Shen Feng met again on the field of battle. Deng Yue set out to take Qianzhong, currently controlled by Shen Feng. Shen, in turn, set out to take Zhu from Deng Yue and drive him from the province. Shen had gained the assistance of others and Deng Yue had turned to those he'd relied on in the past, bandits for the most part. As Deng Yue left Zhu the forces of Baocen Peng arrived to assist Shen Feng in his battle against Deng. Deng, however, was not there and those few remaining forces abandoned the city to its fate. Deng focused all his attention on Shen himself and the two forces encountered one another on the road between Zhu and Qianzhong.

The air was clear and warm as the two forces waited to see what might happen. Fan Pogu and Cang Hu consulted with Shen Feng and developed a strategy. Deng Ka, in command of Deng Yue's forces, watched from the opposite lines. Luo Jian, after a brief discussion, rode out between the two armies and shouted for Deng Ka to ride forth and face him in battle. There was a surge of interest as the men on both sides awaited the outcome. Nothing had gone as expected in the long standing rivalry between their two leaders. The men of Deng Yue hoped to see thier commander meet the challenge. All of them had heard that their homes were threatened as Deng was attacked across the south. Deng Ka stood silently and then turned to proceed with his battle preparations. He had chosen to ignore the challenge! The collective sigh from his men stirred the air a little and some angry grumbling was heard in the ranks. (Morale -5 for Deng Yue)

As the battle began, the forces of Deng Yue was somewhat larger. His men had felt confident of their advantage. After Deng Ka refused the challenge issued by Luo Jian this confidence was damaged. The forces of Shen Feng saw an opportunity in this and concentrated their efforts on reducing the effectiveness of Deng Ka hoping to further shake the confidence of his men and, perhaps, remove him from the field of battle entirely. Cang Hu led an operation to confuse the enemy commanders forces, Tong Huaizheng had men sneak in to shout misleading infromation. Tian Che sought to further reduce the enemy's effectiveness. Xiahou Hai led a mission to destroy the supplies of the enemy.

For their part the forces of Deng Yue focused on improving their morale and protecting supplies. Shan Lue casts threats at the enemy and Pei Jia shouted insults. These efforts met with less success however. It appeared, when the initial results could be measured, that the efforts of Shen Feng's forces were more successful. Deng Ka was in a bad situation but not so bad as the enemy had hoped. He quickly considered the situation and made an effort to rebuild his command lines and restore some of his lost ability to deliver commands to his men. This was successful but the forces of Shen Feng were relentless in their attempt to damage this ability. Soon the forces of Deng Yue lost their numeric advantage and the forces of Shen Feng were pleased with their great success.

Actually I am unsure what happens. The winner of the first engagement would have, I think, pushed on to their destination. But Zhu is already taken. I am waiting for input from Kymvir. Hold on with the tactics

This is a messed up scenario. Like last month was too. The rules from that engagement, which must be applied here as well:

If Tong Hanli had won, he would have pushed Shen Feng back to Zhu and the waiting army from Changsha under Deng Yue. That's still the case. If Deng Yue decides to continue to fight, he'll be forced back to Zhu, and Baocen Peng's force will join the battle for the second Engagement.

Or Deng Yue may choose to retreat from the battle now, face easy capture rolls and desertion rolls, and become a PA. Since this is a losing battle, he will be forced from the province into another province of Shen Feng's choosing.

None of these are particularly appetizing. Stop making weird situations, people!

Deng Ka's army receives its orders and begins a withdraw. With Deng Ka heading for the hills towards a rendezvous point passed on to all the officers in the army, Lin Xin and Zu Juang took up the rear guard, trying to screen the retreat from Shen Feng's attacking force.
