Quietly Jian sat on the edge of a large boulder peering out over the horizon in anticipation of the arrival of his older brother Xiao. His youthful, dark brown eyes shifted momentarily towards the old, rusty spear at his side and he soon took a deep breath. Again he looked out in the direction Xiao was supposed to be coming from, hopefully to inform young Jian about where they would go now that their fathers estate was settled and their mother was safe. He was young, by some standards, and many had considered him brash and impetuous, but Xiao had always stuck by him, protected him from those who looked down on his behavior, and even now would guide the young warrior down his path. A smile crept its way on to his face as he thought about reuniting with Xiao, and the excitement of a new life, a new beginning, and a chance to finally make names for themselves made him hopeful. A feeling he had not entertained since their father had passed.

Welcome to Chu

He had come a long way from Chenliu.

Standing here in one of the Imperial Court's parks, Shen Feng couldn't help but smile. Only four years ago, he'd been a dirty teenager working on a farm, the most grandoise thought in his mind was figuring out how to make sure he'd inherit the lion's share of the land. Now, as part of the strongest army in China, which had destroyed the Qin and stood poised to expand its influence over the entire land, there were so many other doors open, beckoning him. It was just a matter of deciding which one to take.

But there was no need to rush. After so much campaigning, it was time to relax, to enjoy his time at the Imperial Court, to sample the high life for the first time in his life. He'd adjusted to the Court much better than his brother-in-arms, Shan Lue, who stood by him now in the park. Lue was a much simpler man, and while he appreciated not having his life in regular danger anymore, it would take him time to adjust to the decor required here. Fortunately, he had Shen Feng to cover for him. And so the two stood, thinking about how far they'd both come, and how far yet they had to go...

The belly of the beast. That's what Chu was to anyone who had been uprooted by Xiang Yu over the years. While many would-be assassins would leap at the chance to get this close to the capital, Ying Ranzhen swore he could feel the taint of the place crawling up his spine. The place was thick with a formless miasma of depravity that nearly caused the young man to gag; it was even stronger here in the palace. Ranzhen was starting to grow accustomed, though that gave him no peace of mind. He hoped his work wouldn't require him to be in this place for long.

Sounds of troops going through drills lured the young noble from his walk along the stone walkways of the palace pavilion and the fresh air was a welcome change. Getting a good idea of the types of troops Xiang Yu had was a vital part of Ranzhen's overall plan, thus the young man risked his dress robes getting somewhat dusty from walking off the stone path to pay a visit to the palace guards. They would be a good distance from the main palace, but close enough that a random noble wouldn't be questioned for observing a practice.

"Pay attention, Zhang Ban. Commit what you see to memory." The young man's personal bodyguard, a stalwart-looking sort in loose leather armor, nodded and respectfully walked behind his master as they approached the soldiers.

"You there, who are you? What are you doing here?" asked a deep, commanding voice. A powerfully built armored man with a number of facial scars strode to stand before Ying Ranzhen and Zhang Ban. Scowling heavily, he glared at the pair suspiciously. "Unless pigs can fly . . . I know that neither of you have the authorization to be here." Placing his hand upon his sword, he continued, "Now . . . tell me who you are."

@ Chao

Ranzhen bowed, motioning for his bodyguard to do likewise. Xiang Yu ran a tight court, if nothing else, so this man would have to be confident of his rank to make demands of someone dressed like nobility.

"I am Zhang Ranzhen, my lord, a minor courtier. This," he moved his head to glance behind, "is my bodyguard and cousin, Zhang Ban. We were enjoying the fresh air when we heard training. I did not mean to offend, but I suggested to my cousin that there would be no greater sights than to watch the Chu palace guard drill and that we should try to catch a glimpse. He has always been quite fond of physical competition and activity, lord."

Jang stood at the message board at the center of the city.his eyes glanced the many messages from village and town owners from across the land. he was not one to relish rumor mongering or even local gossip but the large group of people that surrounded the board peeked his interest. while his right hand slowly stroked his beard jang allowed a smile to appear on his face as he lightly shook his head.

"it seems so many are so quick to disregard all the death that just took place. ehhh some people are just to greedy."

taking his left hand Jang lightly dusted off his blue silk robe as he turned away form the board and began to walk away. he headed in the direction of the market which was not that far from where he was. after some time of strife the capital of Chen was finely coming into a time of peace. but even with the developments being made some seemed to not be happy with the progress and still seemed to want to sow chaos in the lands. Jang could not help but feel that the land was not clear of war just yet. as he arrived at the market district the commotion of the lively inhabitants of the city brought a smile to jangs face. at least for now there was some sort of peace.

Ma Su and Liao Jian returned from Wei province after a month long visit on imperial business. Ma Su, an imposing figure, with hazel eyes and a solid jaw line, led the way as Liao Jian followed, both on horseback with imperial sashes wrapped around their chests. Su showed no sign of fatigue while Jian seemed ready to fall over and pass out at any moment.

"Come Jian, you've come this far."

Jian simply nodded, taking a swig from his canteen. Su had already continued trotting in to the city as Jian attempted to catch up.

As the pair came to the city center, Su spotted a man of some stature. Smaller than me, he thought, but impressive nonetheless. Spurred on by sheer curiosity, and, at the moment, a good disposition, he rode up to the man and said

"Hello, sir. What does the message board say?"

Jian was able to catch up after a few moments, wiping his brow and muttering something incoherently.

Xiao walked along the southern wall of the Luo ancestral estate, his soft boots making barely a whisper as he made his way over the moss-covered stonework. His father had initially wanted the walls scraped of vegetation, but Xiao's mother had changed the older man's mind. Aesthetic beauty and functionality did not have to be mutually exclusive, or so she said.

Today the warrior was dressed in a fine robe of red silk, it's back stitched with a sun-inspired design in gold threading. Although he knew his brother Jian didn't care for such fashion, it was for the sake of the family's noble allies within The Court. Inheriting his dead father's estate was something given and the Luo name carried weight, but personal respect had to be earned.

Continuing down and out of the small keep, Xiao nodded to the guards at the gate. Past a small peach orchard the two were to meet - the same place they had previously played as children just over ten years ago.

Reaching the top of a hill, Xiao caught site of his brother sitting on a stone some twenty feet away. He smiled and made his way over, holding his arms out for an embrace. "It's good to see you, brother. You look dressed for war," he said with a slight smile.

Tai had been walking for sometime now. She was unsure what had brought her to the city of Chen, situated in Chu, but here she was. the last she had remembered, was healing a little girl in........well, somewhere. She had been very sick, needing to have evil spirits released from her.

It had gone smoothly, well....as smooth as you might expect it would go. she looked down, noticing different clothes than she remembered having. She didn't travel with all that much stuff, or really anything at all. Whenever she snapped back to reality, sometimes she would be dressed in clothing she didn't remember getting. It was light, to say the least. it also seemed to make many people around the city stare at her.

She wore no shoes, or anything on her feet. she had no use for such things, they only got in the way. she noted that she still had her gold with her, she wondered how she always managed that feat. She stared at the people of the city; it was all wrong. These people were all wrong. just the aura of the city seemed off. She looked at the sky, then back in front of her, trying to remember why she was here again.

It hadn't come to her yet.........
