In the city of Jinyang

Since Cheng Dang was never assigned to advance this far north he was unfamilar with the northern most city of Wei. He walked the streets watching the people as they went upon about there business.

Its qiant so much different than the the Qin Capitol

He remember the hustle and bustle of his homeland, and the reason he never came back

After taking in a few of the sights to be seen, and with the help of complete strangers he headed for the hall where the Magistrate resided. Arriving at the guardpost he stopped and spoke with them

Is the Magistrate taking audience's today? I have an urgent message from the countryside.

The guard looked up and said, "Lord Rui Mei will likely see you, or one of his secretaries at the least." He waved an arm and one of his subordinates stepped forward and bowed. "This man will escort you there."

The young guard bowed again and then turned and led the way across a small entrance garden and into the building. Inside, to the left was a room where several men, presumably secretaries, worked at low tables. Some were chatting quietly as they passed the room. The guard led the way past this room and then through an entry to the right. The roome they entered was small but comfortable. Three men were inside the room talking in a relaxed manner. As the guard entered one looked over and said, "Ah! Another visitor? How nice." He did seem genuinely pleased to have company. The men with him looked up as well and one said, "Well, Rui, we won't keep you from your work. Jin and I must get back to the estate. There is more work these days with so many gone to war." Both men were older, too old to fight, but appeared very well dressed. As they passed the visitor they bowed and then both left.

Rui Mei bowed as his guests left and then turned to the new visitor and said, "I am Rui Mei, as you perhaps know from the guard," here, oddly, the governor smiled benignly at the guard who bowed unhuriedly before leaving. "Who might you be and what brings you to our city?"

Cheng Dang bowed deeply while introducing himself

I am Cheng Dang, Mayor of Baoyang, and Captain of Its Militia. Here to pledge our support to Jinyang and its Leaders.

With himself introduced he rose. To meet with Rui Mei, reciprocating the Magistrate’s demeanor.

These are rough times for us all, Everyday it seems a new problem arises currently we are besieged by raiders, To the east, and West lords and there armies are gathering without the watchful eye of the Qin upon them. My citizens are becoming worried, They feel as if war is approaching. And my back aches more and more...

Begining to be a bearer of bad news he laughed it off and changed the subject.

Haha, sorry to go on like that. There is no reason to delve into my problems, I am sure you have enough to deal with...

Cheng Dang paused for a moment to see if the Magistrate would care to add his peace.

Rui Mei looked troubled by the mention of war. He was not a coward but did not seek war - no rational man concerned for his comforts would. And the trouble it caused upset the nobles as well as the general population. He shook his head thinking about it. He sent an attendant for some tea and then led his visitor to a corner of the room where there were some very plush and comfortable pillows.

Easing himself onto one Rui Mei looked at his guest and said, "Your back troubles you as well?" He shook his head and said, "Have you any merchants in your town? I find they can be quite amenable to providing one with comforts. Perhaps one of your merchants has unguents? Or soft pillows?" When the tea arrived he had the attendant pour for both of them and took a delicate cup in his hands. "Of course the merchants are having trouble with all the unrest around. It doesn't do," he said while shaking his head in evident dissaproval, "to take too much advantage - one has to keep them happy after all!"

Cheng Dang sipped small amounts of tea

Lord Rui Mei you are wise. We have little trade in Baoyang, so luxuries are hard to come by. Perhaps our taxes are too high on traded goods, or maybe I've failed in supporting the upper class so they have disposable income.

Cheng Dang hunched over asked quietly

What are your policies for attracting the merchants. Jinyang's trade seems to be just excellent, especially if I use Baoyang as a comparesion.

Rui Mei sipped his own tea and pulled at the pillows to settle himself more comfortably. He thought for a minute and then said, "It is important to keep the interest of the Nobles in mind. I think I will not be bragging when I say that I believe the local nobility are satisfied with how I manage. They certainly do not complain. Then again it's also important to consider the common people. One must not let things get too difficult for them. Of course their betters are a priority still - things run better when they are considered as well."

He nodded to himself. He had already had more than one meeting that day and knew that he would have to inspect the garrison that afternoon. He sipped his tea and reminded himself that he had been given a special wine to enjoy that evening.

Cheng Dang finished his tea

Sound advice, Lord Rue Mei. Your words and company have been most gratifying. I wish I had more to offer you. Sadly all I have is experience and a few loyal men, which you seem to have an abundance of. I hope should you find yourself in the need of either do not hesitate to ask.

Cheng Dang slowly rose and bowed

Thank you for taking the time to meet with me, I hope I’ve not been too much of a disruption in your day. If I may I should be returning home, its not a good idea to travel at night, and I have much ground to cover before sunset.

Cheng Dang waits to be excused.

(OOC: If all is good, Mind if I start the next session)

After a pleasant afternoon with Rui Mei of Jinyang, Cheng Dang decides his best course of action is to meet with the Magistrate of Shangdang. Rui Mei seemed a competent leader, and much loved by the people something he felt Wei could do with for the time being, even if he had a few dirty dealings under the table there were after all perks to being an important figure in society.

After a nights rest Cheng Dang rode for Shangdang, arriving at the guard post

I am District Manager of Baoyang, Cheng Dang, and would like to request a meeting with the good Lord of Shangdang.

One of the guards nodded and said, "Someone will take you to see Lord Su Miao." As he spoke he looked around the visitor as if something was missing. After a moment he said, "No gift? Is a servant carrying it later?" He didn't wait for an answer but shrugged and motioned for an attendant to lead Cheng Dang into the building to an small audience hall where Su Miao - the governor - was meeting with several merchants. As they enetered a pile of silks, a small cask of wine, and some cases could be seen next to the door.

Seeing another visitor, Su Miao looked up from his conversation and said, "Ah! Another guest! Please join us." He indicated that Cheng Dang should join them/. "What brings you to see us here?"

Cheng Dang was struck with a sickening feeling in his gut. It was already a farcry from Rui Mei. Still Cheng Dang once knew of the luxuries the man seem to enjoy. He would be a liar if said some part of him didn't missed those days.

Cheng Dang bowed and introduced himself in his kind and pleasent demeanor.

Master Su Miao. Allow me to introduce myself, I am District Manager Cheng Dang, and Captain of the Baoyang Militia. I've come to report in, if you'd have time we could discuss matters over a strong drink Baoyang's treat of course.

Cheng Dang, looked around noticed there was several men in the room.

Or If your busy at the moment, I'm able to bring my report to one of your subordinates.
