Taishi Ci wrote:(Sorry for not responding, I was busy with other things lately.)

Peng stayed frozen in his position, a little disappointed that the tribute hadn't done as much good as he thought it would. As Huhai listed out his new demands, he was a little worried about some of them. Conquering Han would, of course, be problematic if he couldn't even take one of their cities the previous month. The other issue... he didn't have any sons yet, so how could he bring his eldest son to Luoyang? He would have to figure out a solution to that somehow.

"Your servant hears and shall obey, Your Majesty," he said softly, but load enough for Huhai to hear. "Does your servant have permission to depart to carry out these new tasks?" He waited for an answer from the Emperor.
(It is okay)

Huhai had a self satisfied smile on his face. His will would be done. At least Li Peng had sufficient humility and knew his place within the hall of his Emperor.

"Yes. Know Li Peng the honor that was bestowed upon you this day, for you have been allowed to look on your Emperor and hear his voice directly. Now, go and carry out the wishes of your Emperor and the Heavens."

Liu Bang then asked Han Xin, who had served under Xiang Yu but was driven out, "what is Xiang Yu's weakness? Is there a way to defeat him?" Han Xin calmly replied, "No, Xiang Yu himself is invincible, he is destined to be king."

Rebel wrote:Before he could give a response to the first question. Zhong found himself already being led to the chambers of the Prime Minister. Wondering what the guard meant by the hokey religion bit he arrived in the Library. Upon seeing the man Zhong saluted promptly.

"Good day Prime Minister. I am Huang Zhong of Wei. I wrote to you last week regarding an opportunity to serve the Imperial court. I hope this is not a bad time."

He paused for a bit. Zhong didn't expect that he would be allowed to see the Minister so quickly. He had heard stories of men having to wait for hours on end before they were even allowed admission. He continued..

"I've come to join the Imperial ranks and offer what little I can to help bring peace back to the land."
The Prime Minister set down his book and looked up. "Really?" Moving back to his desk, the man sat and took up a pen at his ledger. "And what praytell, Huang Zhong, are these skills that you wish to employ in the service of our August Emperor?"

Setting his pen down, Li Si picked up a cup of tea, and sipped at it quite noisily.

Mounting the steps to the palace, Meifeng couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy. It wasn't that she was worried about being in such an utterly unfamiliar setting as the imperial palace. That was actually pretty exciting, in and of itself. She was more worried about whether she'd be able to pull of acting like someone who belonged in the palace. At least her father had given her some nice clothes to wear when she presented herself.

Coming up to the guards, she hesitated for a moment, unable to remember whether she was supposed to bow to them or not. A little bow was given, just in case. "My name is Meifeng. I was sent by my father, Li Peng. The Emperor asked for my Dad's eldest son, but he doesn't have any sons, so he sent me. Hopefully that's close enough?" She smirked a bit, loosening up with the guards, since she was a bit more used to people on their level than officials.

"Of course, I'm just a bit better looking than a son would have been. Is this the part where you search me before I go in?" She lifted up her arms for them. She didn't even have any weapons she could have declared if she'd wanted to!

He pondered over the question a bit. Though he knew it'd come up he hadn't given much thought on how to respond. Praising himself was not something Zhong was good at.

"That is something that I too am trying to find out, Minister Li."

"I have gained some knowledge in administering a town, perhaps even a small city Specially when it comes to recruiting men for an army I am one of the better administrators around, if not the best.... as I have been told."

He paused and looked over at the pen and ledger wondering if the minister intended to write down his skills. He thought it would be a pretty short list..and the thought flustered him.

"Err..I also have some knowledge in logistics and leading ranged units within the army during a battle. Particularly when it comes to the supply lines...though I wouldn't want to boast but I am quite good at keeping them running smoothly."

He listened to the man drinking his cup of tea. He shifted his weight feeling a little uneasy.

"Some men respect power or glory, others respect gold or riches. I myself am inspired by wisdom and knowledge. The reason I came to offer service was because of all the people in the kingdom, you are one of the wisest and best in making a sound judgment. Atleast according to rumors."

"I thought, if you felt it was good enough to serve the emperor..than it's good enough for me too."

The guards were about to step forward to search the girl when a carriage pulled up at the gate. They immediately fell back and stood at attention as the Prime Minister of Qin was escorted towards the door by his personal guard. "What is this?" Li Si noted the young girl standing by herself, submitting to a search.

"This is the daughter of Li Peng, your excellency," replied the guard, who now looked embarrassed. "Our most glorious Emperor demanded his eldest son. But Li Meifeng has come, since the governor has no sons. We were about to search her, until you arrived." The man thought for a moment, and then bowed his head in shame as he realized he was digging himself a deeper hole.

The fire in the eyes of the Prime Minister seemed to burn a spot into the commander's forehead, and he had to stop and take a deep breath before he turned to look at the girl. "Your father is a great fool. A loyal fool, mind you. But a fool nonetheless." The Prime Minister sighed and shook his head. Looking back to the guards, Li Si resumed his hard glare. "The eldest son of Li Peng, the young Master, Li Meng, has come to join us at court. Is that understood?"

The guards looked puzzled, and one seemed like he was about to question, when the commander spoke up. "Of course your excellency. Our mistake. We apparently do not understand the fashions in Sai. A strong young man he is, your excellency. Obviously a filial son of Qin." He glanced at the others to make sure they understood.

Turning back to the woman, Li Si folded his arms in front of him. "Until we reach my office, you keep your head down, and your mouth quiet. Is that clear?"

Li Si chuckled to himself. "Rumors! Rumors are the killing blow to the crowns of good men. You should be careful in what you believe, espescially if you have only heard and not seen. It will be a rumor that sends me to the Nine Springs, no doubt."

The Prime Minister motioned for the man to sit. "However. In the present, we shall deal with your proposition. Where in our kingdom are you from? We have able men all over, but if I decide to employ you, I will do my best to keep you relatively close to your family and home."

"I don't know... it seemed like a better idea to send me than no one at all..." She murmured softly at the Prime Minister's admonishment of her father, lifting a finger to scratch at her cheek as she glanced away, cheeks puffing a bit in annoyance. She couldn't really keep that expression long, considering Li Si's correction of the guard. "Um... but I'm not a b-" Her face lit up in realization, just stopping her in mid-sentence. "Oh! Ohhhh!"

She cleared her throat a bit, straightening up as best she could and giving Li Si a nod. Consciously deepening her voice, she gave him the kind of rakish smile that really shouldn't have been coming from a young woman. "Your wish is my command, Prime Minister." She brought her hand up to her face, placing her thumb at the base of her jaw and letting her forefinger extend to her chin as she continued that playboy smile.

It really made you wonder what kind of male role-models she'd had growing up.

In any case, she was spry on her feet, and quickly followed after Li Si wherever he might be leading her off to. She couldn't help but wonder if this meant she'd be getting a new wardrobe. Even if it would be boy's clothes, having Imperial tailor-made outfits was enough to just brighten up her day! Well, the thought of them, at least.

The Prime Minister's guards formed a tight phalanx around the pair, and the two were quickly whisked away to Li Si's study. The large wooden door closed behind them, and the man ordered his entire contingent posted at the door. Moving to his window, he pulled a bottle of wine from the table, filled a glass, and drained it without thought. As he turned back to the girl, he choked down the sweet liquid with a grit of his teeth. After a moment, he finally mustered up the serenity to speak intelligibly. "What in the heavens is your father thinking, child. What is the meaning of your presence here? I know that being defiled and then tossed out of bed in favor of a castrated boy, all in the span of a dozen minutes, is a popular way to spend your childhood these days, but honestly!"

The gentleman poured himself another glass, and then set himself down. "Sit," he said, motioning the girl to the chair opposite his. "You have no brothers. Which is a shame, not in fact, so much as that you told a half dozen guards outside as much. Had I arrived a handful of minutes earlier, I could have at least dressed a peasant to act as your father's child. How men ever plan to reach prominence through such glaring honesty is beyond me." Passing the girls a glass of wine, the man continued. "Now, what has caused your father to send you? Or rather, why has the Emperor demanded you?"

Once they were inside the study, Meifeng went back to her usual posture, though she couldn't quite hide her curiosity about the place. After all, she'd never even seen half so many books together in one place! Her eyes wandered here and there even as she did her best to give Li Si her attention. He seemed pretty bothered... maybe she'd arrived at a bad time? She did her best to give him a sympathetic look as he downed his wine and turned to her.

"I was sent because... it seemed like it was important to send someone?" She answered the question with quite a bit of uncertainty in her voice, though she seemed far less anxious than she should have been in the situation. She'd promptly sit down as instructed, running her hands along the arms of the chair. So expensive! She felt a little bit like a noble lady already! Being handed a glass of wine didn't do anything to dampen her cheery mood, either.

"Well, there was a big list of things my dad was supposed to do. Um... build a palace, kill some people, send a lot of pretty girls, send his oldest son... oh, and he and I had to bathe in the blood of a horse." She paused, taking on a less than pleased countenance. "That wasn't so pleasant." She washed away that thought with a sip of wine, turning her eyes back to Li Si. "I was thinking maybe he wanted to be friends with my dad's heir? Like, that way, he'd have me in his pocket when I take over! Um... if I was a guy." She paused, nursing a bit at her cup and watching Li Si. "...it's not like that, is it?"

"The blood of a horse? You actually did that?" The Prime Minister seemed visibly more relaxed, and was even chuckling. "I remember when he told He Gen to do that. He Gen was a snivelling curr, though. So it's to be expected. Can't speak for your father though. Regardless, no. You're here to be killed. Well, you would be here to be killed, if you were a boy. Luckily for you, I got to you before worse happened."

The man sipped his wine and regarded the young woman. He mused for a while at the thought of Imperial Concubines, and wondered why Zhao Gao kept requisitioning for them. Perhaps he would speak to some of his guards and see what the fuss was about. Women were work in his experience, but perhaps he was missing something. "The question is now, what am I to do with you?"

"Wha- buh- why would he want to kill me? I... I even did the bathing thing with the blood!" It was hard to tell where she was between upset and incredulous, something she didn't even know herself. Much like Li Si's immediate action upon entering the study, Meifeng downed her wine in one gulp, thrusting the cup out for more. If she was going to die, she intended to do it well and sloshed!

Though, it seemed that the conversation was shifting a bit in another direction. "Um... all things being equal, I kind of like not dying? Didn't the Emperor ask for pretty girls, too? I can be a pretty girl! Y'know, 'cause I am one..." She gently shook the cup in her hands, lifting a brow to Li Si. Either she didn't understand the gravity of her situation or she didn't care, because she was definitely asking if he'd give her another pour.

"Maybe we could just go ask the Emperor if it's okay if he doesn't kill me since I'm not a boy?"
