"I just crossed two provinces, Magistrate." Shi Jin answered with a bit of sarcasm, "No, it was not as difficult as you think. In any event, I like how you run things in Chu. No searches, no what not. Pretty careless, don't you think?"

Just as the guards and the servants left the room, Jin smirked, "I was intrigued by your letter, Xiang Jun, to say the least. While the other warlords of the land offered me high ranks, riches, honor and fame, you have the gall to solicit my help for a deed so dastardly you shame not only yourself, but your ancestors. You are either insightful or just stupid.."

The spearman let that trailed off until the he let out a larger grin, "But like I told you, I like how you run things under your department. You're quite the gambler, Xiang Jun."

"Just like me.."

Xiang Jun's face was impassive as the guest delivered a speech marked by alternating bits of sarcasm and compliment. Finally, he smiled weakly when Shi Jin remarked how they were alike. Whether or not Jun agreed, he didn't show.

"Then, I suppose you have an accurate estimation of the role you'll play to complement mine, Lord Shi?" the physician said, "I'll take your very presence here as an indication of your positive response to the Court's invitation and to mine."

"When you are ready, then I shall formally request an audience with the King." so said the Magistrate as he began to move outside the room and towards the Chambers of the King.

Assuming Shi Jun followed, Xiang Jun will later inform the guards of Chen She that the Magistrate and a certain guest would like to request an audience.

XZ and GoGo

Chen She was silent and, after a moment said, "You are quite correct, General Niu, I have in mind a suitable reward but must discuss it with other ministers. When I have made the arrangements I will send an envoy, Pan Dao who is an excellent and trustworthy young clerk, to meet with you and deliver this reward."

Chen She paused and siad, "Perhaps, the situation will change after this visit and we will have other concerns to discuss."

Crim

The King, hearing that Xiang Jun had brought a visitor to meet him sent word that he sould be admitted to the audience hall with his guest immediately.

As they entered, Chen She nodded and said, "Who have you brought Chief Magistrate Xiang?"

Xia Xi nodded. "This would be very welcome," he replied. "When we are done here, I will make preparations for such an event."

Xia Xi continued to eat and drink and be merry until the King chose to end the meeting, then he went back on home to Yin.

((I'm assuming we are done here, but didn't want to act pretentious, so this stands unless you say something else, heh.))

Xiang Jun bowed before the King as the pair entered. The physician gestured to Shi Jin as Chen She probed about the guest-general.

"This is Master Shi Jin of Hangu in Wei, my King." said Jun in a clear, confident tone. "Our agents report that he is a military commander expert in sending his foes to disarray and marauding the supply lines of the enemies. In addition, Master Shi is a proven administrator of an army and a well-versed student of the martial arts."

He bowed again, "And most importantly, he wishes to serve my King."

Crim and Bise07

Chen She smiled at the words of Xiang Jun. He looked at the visitor expectantly and then said, "Please, join me, I shall call for refreshment." An attendant, without waiting to be instructed, immediately retreated from the room and, quite shortly, another appeared with a jug of wine and a tray of cups.

The King nodded to mats near his own as a low table was moved into position. As the wine was poured, Chen She shook his head slightly to the attendant saying, "Please enjoy, I've found recently that wine does not agree with me."

Turning to Shi Jin, Chen She said, "Tell me, why is it you wish to enter my service?"

Shi Jin bowed and answered the King, "I have a score to settle with the Qin, King Chen. Not too long, Hangu was torched to the ground by disgruntled Qin soldiers, killing all civilians in the town including our women and children. Unfortunately, I was away when that happened and found all that I knew destroyed."

"I don't care about rank, riches and fame. I just want my shot against the dogs of the Qin. Give me a place in your army and I'll shred the bastards to pieces."

"If I may interrupt my King?" Jun said, "Perhaps, Lord Shi may be employed to lead an army against this rebel Governor Yi in Yuan? With the Marshal Si, General Wu and General Niu busy in the northern borders, another general may be necessary to lead our the campaign against the rebels to the south of His Majesty's kingdom. In the event that this particular proposal finds favor in the King's eyes, I implore His Majesty to allow this surgeon an opportunity to showcase his cunning on the battlefield alongside Shi Jin's."

"I have studied the art of war quite extensively, my King," added Jun, "What I lack is a venue through which I may validate what I have learned over the years."
