We are a small niche group. And i think we should have a discussion on what we all want from the game.
Obviously there is a competitive element to the game. Most of us want to be the one to conquer China. Winning is fun!
But it's also a role-playing game, I think it's best to cultivate a culture of trying to help everyone have a good time or our numbers will dwindle and not grow.

Re: OOC
There seems to be two types of players. Strategists, and RP'ers. Obviously there are those that enjoy both, but you need good opportunity for a good strategy to overcome numbers, and a good RP environment.
The proposed next version being a GMNPC kingdom or two or three we are all divvied into or choose to join (though it will be unbalanced I think), would be great for the RP'ers, and if done right could provide plenty of opportunity for multiple players that want to run the battles and discuss strategy. For example, the GMNPC ruler could direct strategists to start plans for taking certain cities by a certain month.
A merit/demerit system for kingdom participation would encourage people to be involved, be it RP in councils, or strategizing for battles, doing the tactics, or whatever, and discourage warm bodies being brought in for filler. In any case, I'd like to see plenty of opportunity for multiple people to handle the battle side of things rather than the top guy in each faction always doing it. Perhaps giving specific targets to specific players who have an interest in it.

I like this kinda thought this was how this version was suppose to go. You have both cooperative and opposition elements into it. Work with allies in the same kingdom fight against enemies.BJR wrote:There seems to be two types of players. Strategists, and RP'ers. This post should go into the v6 suggestions. Though we 3 active and decent game masters who's goal isn't to win but to provide a fun experience.

Re: OOC
On that note, I love you all dearly and consider you all excellent comrades and rivals in the sim world...but I hope all of your PCs die of the plague so I can absorb your power and win this version, ushering in the V6 Dynasty.
Though, on a more constructive note, I've already voiced how much I love that idea. I think we all understand that v5 was the first run of the system, and we're having fun while we help provide practical data on how everything works and interacts. That said, the plot ideas regarding the three kingdom/GMNPC forces governing the PCs would be awesome. Any concerns about PC involvement would be alleviated by the fact that, let's be honest, there's always a hierarchy. Ranks could be introduced for IC leverage and goals, as well as mechanical bonuses to troop limits, etc. That would give players goals and structure to work with. So even if there aren't any PC "kingdoms", there'd still be PC groups or commanders helping run the show while the GMNPCs provide structure and plot.

Re: OOC
Killing GMNPC is fun: we could have a map set in the early 190-196 so we could have more ruler on the map instead of having just empty town and cities. This way we can join ruler or start fresh and try to make our way. This would make more rp opportunities for rpers since there is not just 2-3 side to go with and there is going to be a lot of battle opportunities for warmongers
