Arrogance? In the youth lied corruption and now in the veterans? However, Zheng was only one man; surely there were wiser man then him to seek... This man speaks of great knowledge of the Daodejing but fails to follow the teaching of the Three Treasures; these would not allow such arrogance to be found within a man. "It may be remote Lord Zheng, but you could still help the people who live there; is that not what sooths you? To know that you are helping those less fortunate?" Sighing a little Shuilong looked to the floor, his tone lowering slightly to the disheartened nature he felt. "Or do you wish to gain great wealth, to be named by a historian after you have joined the earth?" It seemed all those he spoke to desired this, why? Laozi did not seek fame, but yet he was given it because of the kind nature he had.. Perhaps Zheng enjoyed the more contraversy of Zhuangzi; though even he bowed to the teachings of Laozi. Indeed, Chen She was not the one Shuilong would help...trippy wrote:I was drawn to the King. I am the most skilled city administrator in all of the land. Why would I offer my skills to some remote land who could not make use of my talents. Finding the right master is filial.

I am confused by your question. Do you follow the Scholar Kung Fuzi? Have you been trained in what is filial? You must not be greater than your master or you are not being proper. The greatest administrator must serve the greatest kingdom. People everywhere prosper from the wealth of this region. Our surplus of food feeds the villages. The coffers have enough gold to construct offices, quarries, and artisanal shops. Even Meng Tzi, the greatest of the Scholar's followers served in this land. It is not arrogance to be filial. It is arrogant to defy propriety to fill your ren with a false sense of altruism.

Shaking his head Gong gave out another sigh. "I do not follow any other than my deity.. The teachings of philosophers such as Laozi, do not teach that you proclaim yourself better than others; as it makes you only think of yourself, excluding others with similar talents." Bowing his head to Zheng, Shuilong rose from the seat. "Lord Zheng, the province of Chu shall be in my mind.. However, I shall return to Wu." Gong did not turn his back on Zheng, but slowly backed away with his head lowered; showing him great respect. Once the gap between the two was enough Shuilong finally turned to exit; Chu was a difficult province.. Ruled by a man from the common side of life who was now elovated into the position where corruption can take hold. This needed great thought, but it was not high upon Gong's agenda... With a smille Shuilong appeared but left, disheartened only to return to Wu; having many thoughts circle in his mind..

On an ordinary day toward the end of the month, a middle-aged man made his way to the audience hall of Chen She, wearing just some grayed robes. There, he gave the guards a small bow and said, "I have been invited to speak with one of the officials of Chen. I come bearing a letter from a General of Chu and a pass." He slowly brings both out and shows them to the guards.
((Whoever is doing the AH, PM me and I'll PM you the letter and pass. Or, otherwise, see GoGo, because he knows what they are, too.))

Zhou Zheng, in a billowing black robe as opposed to the sky blue of his previous visit, walked through vaguely familiar streets. The market was bustling, but several hours of inspection yielded nothing that stood out as a good purchase. The magistrate then headed towards the same administrative he visited last time he was in the city, feeling more self-confident than he was last time.
"Greetings," the young magistrate said to a vaguely familiar-looking guard. "I am Magistrate Zhou of Xinzheng. I am here to speak with Magistrate Zheng, who I understand has been made aware of my impending visit. And yes, I submit to your searches."
The young magistrate awaited the formalities and ceremonies that preceded everything worth doing.

The guard looked to one another for a brief moment before looking back to the man before them. The larger of the two men nodding in approval as the small stepped forward. "General Niu Xiong has informed us to be expect a guest on his behalf." The mans eyes shifting upon the piece of paper held before him he soon spun upon his heels. The larger of the two pulling aside another guard and whispering into his ear. With a gesture of his hand he signaled for the man to move through the gates. The smaller man leading the magistrate while the larger trailed behind. The noise that filled the halls and the many people a now common sight. After some time walking about the group finally arrived at a door guarded by pairs of men. The man who had been pulled aside at the gate soon appearing from behind the group. Not far behind trailed the general whom had come in military attire. "Magistrate Xia Xi..or is it Governor? I apologize for the late welcome...I have been busy." he said aloud as he approached the man.

The news that Magistrate Zhou Zheng was at the gate did not escape Niu Xiong. The man had come to regret knowing little detail of the mans first visit and refused to miss his second. The detail so little he could merely piece together with the mans request that the first was with Zheng Ti as well. It seemed as if the mans luck was still with him as he had been at his quarters at this particular moment. The list of new recruits he was overlooking could wait till a later time.
In a show of haste the man came down to the gates in a timely fashion. Merely looking to the guards at hand he knew he did not need to speak. Pushing himself past them he brought himself to the front of the gate and within distance of the visitor.
"Magistrate Zheng Ti is a busy man. He like our King Chen She, the Minister of Faults Hu Wu and the Chief Magistrate Xiang Jun do not always have time for these arrangements. I, however, do have such time." he spoke in a serious tone as he crossed his arms.

Zhou Zheng offered a slight bow to the general.
"It would seem as though they are overworked; I heard similar things the last time I was here." The magistrate folded his hands behind his back, regarding the general with a raised eyebrow. "If you are willing to part with the time to speak with me, then I would be indebted. But before we commence, proper introductions have not been made. I am Magistrate Zhou Zheng of Xinzheng."
As the magistrate awaited the general's response, he sized the man up. Where Zheng Ti had been courteous and diplomatic, this man struck the magistrate as rushed and blunt. A soldier's demeanor.

"Very well." the man retorted as the magistrate spoke before letting out a snicker. His attitude had not been a pleasant lately and only continued to consume him. "I am General Niu Xiong..." he introduced with a brief bow at the hips. "We shall speak in my office if you do not mind. Unless of course you wish our conversation to be a public one." Signaling for the guards to let the magistrate pass he turned down the hall.

The pair of walked through the crowded halls with an escort of guards. Taking a sudden turn the noise eventually died out. The halls now quiet with only a few patrols here and there. Arriving before the doors of a small office Xiong finally turned to look at the magistrate. "We have arrived." he uttered before opening the door and walking into the office. The entire room empty but a desk and two chairs. The walls blank but a map of moderate size hanging upon one of the walls. Taking a seat he signaled for the man to do the same as the guards shut the door.
"What business do you have here Magistrate Zhou Zheng?" he questioned.

The bland room stood in stark contrast to feeling of opulence one received in Magistrate Zheng's room. A welcome change, Zhou Zheng mused, pondering on how self-important the underlings of the king thought themselves. Taking the offered seat as he was addressed, the magistrate leaned forward slightly as he responded.
"To give you the short version, General, I have no lost love for the Qin. As I came to know King Chen's position regarding them, I immediately decided to cast my lot in with him. And so I journeyed here, and found myself meeting with Magistrate Zheng Ti. In the course of the discussion, I had pledged my efforts to take Xiangcheng from the established governor in King Chen's name.
"That plan, as you can imagine, fell through when King Chen's armies took the city. Before I could reorganize and move on Yangcheng instead, Magistrate Zheng sent me a letter informing me that the action was no longer required, as King Chen's armies would deal with it in short order. As such, Magistrate Zheng informed me that, if I still wished to serve, I should report back. So there you have it, General."
Pausing, the magistrate let his summary of the correspondence and meeting sink in.
"The short of it is that I am seeking employment, provided the wages are right and there is room for advancement. I feel obligated to mention that I am fairly talented in governing from my experience in Xinzheng, and natural aptitude. To put it bluntly, General, I aspire to govern a city and be Prefect."
