Lak nodded and smiled.

"Lord XunXue Wei, I am honored that you would take the time to visit with us here. I am sure you have heard of the wars of Yan, tell me is this something you believe you can help our cause with? Whilst I was reduced to pleading for help in the past, I now have the ressources to offer the best men in the land their due. What would it take to secure your help in our ambitions?"

Lak tilted his head to the side, his interest in what his nephew saw i nthe man apparent.

THe purpose was becoming clear now. There was a war to secure this province and bring the people under one man. XunXue Wei had seen this before in other provinces, in other lands. This was his sort of landscape, the fields of war.

Leaning forwards and extending his arms to the chief, he whispered:
"I am a dog of war, I live to let bleed weaker men, and to break the backs of the insolent whelps who wish to take it upon them self the duty of scorning the innocent. I seek the destruction of the vermin who plague the halls of palaces and leech the common folk dry of their livelihoods and daughters for their own ridiculous pleasures. You speak of Yan, to me it is just another place for which I have no allegiance or care. I serve only Kuan Ti Kuan Kung and his blood lust. Give me a foe and forget the reason. I am uninterested in words as I am a man of action. Show me you are not like the others and you will not languish with the dead in the halls of Diyu to burn with the ancestors."

Standing tall he stamped his foot and beat his chest three times as if to add exclamation, his eyes burning with a sulphuric fire that could only be reminicent of a murderer or a butcher finding joy in their tedious task of rending the flesh.

Striking up a knightly pose he spoke with the voice of an actor upon a stage:
"I am a scourge, and I will dispatch without prejudice or judgment. Now do not ask me my price for such is to dishonour me like a whore seeking gold for her delicate spoils. Offer me a price and let us barter like men. Tell me why I should fight for you, would be king of Yan."

Lak seemed moved by the man's words, but his blank expression did not betray his emotions.

"While you are a servant of war, I am slave to the people. I detest war yet I will gladly bring it to those that have wronged the common folk. My ambitions are great Lord XunXue Wei and with it I fear Yan is only a stepping stone. If you seek battle, you have come to the right place. We have secured Yan in the past month, still armies of free men march against us. Once we obliterate these outlaws, we shall move on to the next target. I dream of purging the land of its corruption, until I can succeed in that dream, you will have battles to fight enough to satisfy your bloodlust."

Lak stood.

"As for payment, it would be 50 gold per month, until of course you can prove your worth on the battlefield. What say you Lord of War, do you think you can purge my ennemies from Yan and beyond?"

Gazing at the chief, he spoke:

"What is your definition of worth on the field. I have my men with me, but truth be told I am more skilled with units of bowmen and the like. I am a man who supports on the field and demoralizes the opponent. Do you have need of this in your legions?
Also tell me more of your enemies. It is a strange thing for bands of freemen to oppose a noble despot. More usual for them to strike against corruption. Speak to me of this and rest my worried mind."

"Ah, Murong Ba. He is good, I heard he is on pretty good terms with some governor of Changsha. So I wish him well there. Another Brother Chao is also attempting certain actions. Only I am not doing too good, bumming around a great deal. Maybe I should do something too." Jiang Bao replied with a laugh.

"With reference to your enemy, is this man, Li Lang? I think I met him once in a tarven, he seemed nice enough, although his men seemed a little arrogant. But still a overrall positive excounter of sorts." He concluded.

Lak shrugged.

"I know that accomplishments from a support role can be just as important as those from the front lines, more so because good men from the back ranks are hard to find. You must understand that the freemen we oppose simply do because we have defeated them at every turn since the battles in Yan have started. In summary, two groups of free men formed a few months ago and our ambitions met, we won the cities while they grew their armies. They will not be the only ones with ambitions for power, it does not make their actions noble."

The great warrior listened as the Chief and the visitor exchanged 'pleasantries' with each other. He smirked; such a man, with ambitions of battle and bloodshed, might be a terrible foe to behold, but a worthy ally to make. While he fears nothing and no one, even he can measure the worth of a man when he would be a formidable enemy...

The measuring stick is strength.

he merely gazed down on the two men, keen and alert, unsuspecting yet wary of XunXue Wei the butcher..
