You should know that your new quarters have been made here in Dingtao now. If you feel it is inadequate than you can request a new one. But I personally instructed my men to pay special attention to yours, given your... needs."
Shang Sun giggles as he notices Xiang Kai's awkward response. "Great! Just have someone summon me whenever you need me."

Accepting the offer of Kai, Bai Long slowly placed himself on the seat, his body twitched a little bit as he came in contact with the object. Apparently, he was experienced pain through his body's part.
Without taking off his hat, Long spoke "I'm sorry for disturbing you at a time like this", he looked outside indicating the night, "I'm not very comfortable in crowded place and the night is the only time that i can find peace and quite.". He moved his hand toward his hat but retreated it back after some thought "I hope you don't mind me keeping this hat on? I met some accident a while back, so, my appearance make most people uncomfortable in speaking face to face. I came here today after receiving your letter of recruitment. I have been traveling for quite some time now. It's hard to find a job when others judge my ability based on my appearance. As you may have already notice, my body isn't what it used to be. I can't move very well due to the pain inflicted on me. However, I took pride in my ability to support others and the use of decoy to mislead the enemies."
Bai Long took a long breath and waited for lord Kai's response. He hoped to finally find employment here as he is very tired, also, his fund is running very low right now. However, Long daren't to hope too much, he was used to disappointment.

Kai leaned back, "It is no problem at all. I find the night to be the perfect opportunity to get things done. It's quiet, and sort of refreshing. As for your appearance, may I ask what happened to cause this? I should tell you, while one's appearance can help one greatly in circumstances, I do not see it as some all important quality. What is important is the ability to get things done, and I have heard that you are such a man to do so, which of course is why I wrote you. If you can indeed do this, then I can surely find a place for you here in Dingtao. What do you say?" he asked with a smile.
"I'd rather not dwell into the past. Let's just say that I was burned due to my carelessness." Bai Long smiled sadly as his mind wanders into the past. He shook his head to rid himself of the memory whiles continued "If you will accept me, I will give my best to do any job within my ability for you." A smile ran across his face that is barely visible behind the veil, he was glad to finally found a place for himself.

Then, perhaps coming back to that subject, Kai added in a low tone "And, we do protect our own. So if anyone were to harm you. We have our own... methods for dealing with our enemies..."

Fanning himself with an elegant ladies fan Jin Zhao once more roundly cursed the hot summer. Despite the temperature he still wore thick fur over his mismatched wooden armour and was somewhat regretting his decision to venture out during the height of the day especially with his throbbing hangover. His companion, a young lad named Dia Sheng looked suitably impressed at the variety and inventiveness of expletives which issued from the ugly warrior, carefully storing a few away for use later.
"I should have gotten some of the troops to carry me in a covered litter instead of walking the final few miles myself. Now that would be a proper entrance! Not walking in like some beggar woman..." grumbled Jin Zhao. "Some entrance that would be" responded Dia Sheng, "Likely the motion would end up making you sick again which wouldn't be the best impression to make. Plus look, we have arrived already!"
Giving only a grunt in reply Jin Zhao peers at the building in front of him, he had been so caught up in feeling sorry for himself he hadn't even noticed. " Hmmm. not too shoddy I guess." Rummaging within the depths of his belongings he finally produces a wad of paper which after several seconds of smoothing turns into something resembling a stained and mistreated letter. He approaches the guards (who have probably been watching in amusement for some time) and thrusts the letter at them.
"My name is Jin Zhao and this is my companion Dia Sheng, I have a personal letter of invite from your lord Xiang Kai. We carry no weapons and will submit to any personal searches." With another grunt he waits for a response.

A guard sighed as he approached the men in order to search them. Lord Kai had said that he was not important enough to be a target of anybody, so there was no need for searching. But the captain gave orders to search. Ordinarily one would follow the higher ranked officer's ruling, but in this case Kai was probably joking, so he proceeded with the search. Anything bad being removed, the men are led into the audience hall, and soon into a modest office. Behind a desk sits a man who is presumably Xiang Kai. The guard announces, "Sir, Jin Zhao and Dia Sheng are here to see you."

Jin Zhao gratefully takes the offered seat with a loud sigh of happiness whilst Dia Sheng stands behind at attention.
"Right to the point, that's what I like." He peers at Kai as he speaks. "Your letter mentioned several things I'm interested in, money power and the establishment of estates - these are all things which I intended to seize for myself however I'm interested in exactly what you are offering. From your letter I could tell you were a man of action which is something I respect. This is why I chose to visit you first before responding to any of the other dozen or so letters I have received so far."
Leaning back in the chair Jin Zhao watched for a response.
"Do you have anything to drink? My mouth is as dry as a desert!"

"Surely," Kai said as he nodded to one of the guards at the door to bring in the standard drinks, several cups of water. Moments later someone arrived and placed them on the desk before all of the men.
"As for what you ask? For those who serve me as an officer, in doing their duties, will gain a monthly salary of fifty gold. In addition to this, as one can easily understand, greater service merits greater rewards. So if one were to perform extraordinary tasks for the kingdom, then one would receive extra benefits. And of course, length of service is also worthy of reward. And these rewards range from, as you said estates, gold and power, to whatever else I can make possible. I must repeat however that the greater rewards are gained through greater service. Do you have any other questions about me? Perhaps any other thoughts on what I said?"

Jin Zhao was unimpressed and it showed - this wasn't worth the effort in coming here - he could get these same benefits from anywhere and could probably do better for himself if he stayed independent.
"It seems to me you are promising things which you don't yet possess and that you would require my help to obtain. You offer these rewards like a carrot on a stick - but your carrot is no more tasty than the carrots dangled by other lords. So I think the true question is why should I serve you instead of any of the others? And understand that I care little for high and mighty ethics and promises of high ideals!"
Rant over for the moment Jin Zhao ignores the drinks and sits back.
