Just a sad bit of news - James Rigney, AKA Robert Jordan, passed away yesterday. Figured I'd put that here.

 Yeah, I heard around 6:30am this morning. The news was followed by a series of bad events that made my day really crappy. He will be missed. His blog noted about a week ago that Jordan sat down with his cousin Wilson and his wife Harriet to go over all of his plans and ideas for the final book in WoT, in detail. While his death is tragic, I believe that his work should and will be finished so that his legacy can endure for many decades after his death.

But it won't be the same with someone else writing it - it never is.

Very true. The way we reach the end will be different, but at least we will be able to know the actually end that he had planned.

I recommend The Lies of Lock Lamora by Scott Lynch. It has a sequel out that is good, but not quite -as- good. I believe the third is stated for release in February of 09. I believe there are 7 books planned, in total.

Eek - another long series. Should I wait until it's all done or should I risk it?

----

I'd never heard of Capek until I started reading this - it's a riot, but very disturbing.

I'd go for it and at least read the first book. It is set in a kind of 17th century, Venice-like city. The main characters are basically their world's first true con artists. It is very well done and quite humorous.
