Hardcore is a huge genre, it's mostly made from punk/metal influences like Minor Threat and Metallica. It ranges from bands like Unearth (more metal) to bands like Comeback Kid (older stuff much more a mix). And in Washington, where I live, theres a lot of hardcore bands that are much more punk than metal.
While that is true, I tend to stick anything that sounds like Metallica mixed with 'hardcore' influence into my little "Grindcore" box. From the "Grindcore" bands i've heard, they all sound "Metal". Well, aside from some of the vocals. :)
I get really sick of street punk too, it's like they all regurgitate each other's lyrics and music. People need to do something original. Some stuff by the Unseen and A Global Threat is okay but I get really sick of stuff like the Casualties, Clit 45, Chaotic Alliance, Monster Squad, etc. And seeing the people in person (I saw ALL of those bands before) made me like them less, they dress in really expensive clothing and act better than everyone else. Action isn't a bad band though, but they were better live than their recorded stuff.
Not all Street Punk is repeative, but most is. The Casualties basiclly just say Oi and sing about unity. But, none the less. They've been around for some time. So I happen to like their old stuff. Clit 45, had some good old stuff. They sounded alot different from any other street punk band when they emerged. They're new stuff doesnt sound to great. But hey, they sing about sucide, death and the likes. Nothing political there, to an extent. I love AGT and the Unseen, meh. Either way, I agree that most Street Punk is becomming an annoyance.

As for the way they act, it would depend on the crowd and band. I've met Mark Unseen from the Unseen, he's a nice guy. As are most of the other band mates. (Horrah for going to a venue way before the show starts.) I've met Dave from Clit 45, nice guy. Though I do admit, they have 'elitest'. Every crowd has a pair, I personally don't like them.

Now, expensive clothing? I'm sorry, but I can either buy Levi's that are baggy for what...$40? Or I can buy another pair of pants for $40 that are straight legged and tight. (ZOMFGZ, SO PUNK) The clothing isn't expensive at all. It's within the same price range as a typical pair of jeans or shirt. The only time it gets expensive is if you want to really dress up. Buy yourself some boots ($150-300) and a leather Jacket ($100). Patches are only a dollar are two, unless you get a back patch which is about five at most. It's only expensive if you want to dress the 'look'. I personally say hey, dress how you like. Because clothing doesnt define a person. It merely catergorizes them, which isn't a good thing.

There is this hilarious video that circulated a while ago, Clit 45 was making fun of some kids who liked Star Wars and the one kid came up and punched their roadie and they pretended like they weren't acting tough 10 minutes earlier.

I've been in/around the scene for the last 4 years of my life and there can be some great people but a lot of them are also so apathetic and nihilistic...I think lyrics should be more than about alcohol and "being rejected by society". At least in my area anyway, it's like the kids hate any ounce of intelligent thought. It's all about having crazy color hair and being dirty with expensive clothes. It's also like it's a contest to see who is the poorest, suburban kids pretend they're awesome by going dumpster diving and sleeping on the park when they have a family making over $50,000 a year back at home. It's all about the image to them, and to me I don't care about someone's financial status as long as they stand for something that matters. Laying around and drinking isn't going to help the world. If someone has that much money, they should take some of it an have benefit shows for starving people or political prisoners.

The best thing to do for cheap pants it to buy ones at a thrift store with style that you like and then cut the inseam and sew them to fit your body perfectly. I just bought a plain white shirt at K-mart for $3 and I'm going to paint the Crass anti-war Japanese symbol on it and paint "Fight War not Wars, Destroy Power Not People" on the back. There are many alternatives to make things no so expensive.

I'm really picky about my music, I would never settle for supporting a generic band.

Hehe, thats just amusing. But I still wouldn't proclaim them 'stuck-up' because they made fun of Star Wars. I make fun of Star Wars, but I loved the movies when I was younger. I admit, I can't really sit down and watch them now. But, i'll always like them. Same would go for the games. Then again, I sit around and make fun of "punks" as well.

When it comes to lyrics that aren't about "Drinking and rejecting society". I tend to stick to the older Punk. I admit, there isn't alot out today that sings about anything different. I'm not a fan of "Crust Punks" either, heh. I always say they should go take a damn shower. But I know what you mean. I've been part of the "Scene" down here since I was 14. I'm 19 now, so five years. But, even you should know. That half the kids who run around with the hair and act dirty and simply following the 'trend'. "Punk" has grown very largely over the past few years. Hell, when I came into the "Scene" people thought I was just another "trendy kid". But I would have to agree. I don't see the point of acting as if you're poor and thinking poverty is 'cool'. As for the starving and political prisoners, I agree once more. But most bands don't even get paid enough to do much with the money. Even though 'Punk' has grown, they still struggle while on tours. Unlike mainstream bands, most of the tour money comes from their own pockets. Though, i'd still like to see them atleast trying. Some do, some don't. The Krum Bums held a benefit show for a friend who got stabbed in one of the local bands. Anti-Flag, though mainstream has still managed to get pentions and so forth going at their shows. It's just that the 'scene' has been and still is being invaded by kids who don't even understand what the music is about. They simply want to 'fit in', which saddens me. I've talked to kids who proclaim to hate the goverment but don't even know why.

I've yet to paint any of my shirts, but my sister does that to about all her jackets. Most of the time i've bought plain shirts and brought them to CC Goods (sports store) and just had them put text on the shirt for me. If not that, i've used permanent maker on them. Most of my clothing is dress up stuff though. But now that i'm jobless, I don't need to worry about dressing standard for my boss and wear what I want. While thrift stores are great, we don't have many here. I"d need to drive out to Austin or attempt to look for one in Killeen. I live in a small town, it would take some time.

I can be picky myself, but I support band to band. I'm more supporting of bands who sound different though. Ranging from SKA, to Punk, to Hardcore to even Rap. It would help if some bands learned to play their instruments though. The down side to most Punk bands today, especially street. They refuse to learn how to play something different.

Definately, I'm a lot less about genre and more about originality in bands.

The best part about that video. The 'Roadie' who was hit, is from Austin. He use to work the merchandise stand at Emo's. Had a lovely can that said "I might look like a terrorist, but i'm really not. Please tip me." or something to that extent on it. Though, i'd have to side with the 'nerds' on this one. It's just rude and disrespectful to stand across a street and shout at others. Especially using such language. Either way, good laugh.

On a musical note, does anyone happen to listen to "Dead Prez"? Great music.

Four bands that dont get proper credit for their originality and talent:

Tool: In a way I feel I dont even have to say this, but hell, why not? Tool is one of the most ground breaking bands in history. They invented a new sound that sounds like true art. Like if you turned a painting into music, you'd get Tool. (((I could get a lot more technical with riffs and beats and vocals, but not sure if even here would understand hehe)))

Gorillaz: Scoff if you will, laugh at them, mock them. But when it comes down to it, they have combined music genres that have never even been thought of combining before. A truly unique band that isnt given half the credit they deserve.

White Stripes: I hate this band. I cannot stand their music, but I also cant deny their skill. They only have two members and make so pretty complex songs. That requires some talent. They created in a way their own sound as well and have been on the scene for years, just not very popular until recently.

Slipknot: Now this band is perhaps the best Live band today. Definately the best Metal/Hardcore band around. Stunning Vocals, Incredible Drum beats, guitar that makes very unique sounds, good unusual base and of course a kick ass DJ. This band reivented Metal, they are the very model that all metal bands are compared to. And talk about great lyrics. This band all around is one of the most talented bands out there right now.

For the most part they are. Either Slippy or F-ing Metallica. I hate Metallica but they are extremely successful. Whilest I like bands like Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of god, In Flames, Shadows Fall, Hate Breed, they just dont compare at all to Slipknot. Bands like that are just typical unoriginal metal. Those bands are all the same. As a musician I look at the riffs, beats and the vocal tones of the band. Trivium has this 80's thing goin, wich is alright, but not original at all. Killswitch has perhaps the worst drummer in history and really shitty yelling vocals. Lamb of God, Hatebreed and Shadows fall all have the same problem. Their is as simplistic as possible, they just play it loud and call it talent. Thats the stuff that just stays the same, were every one of them just copies each other over and over. Slipknot is a breathe of fresh air. A singer who can actually yell and sing, one of the best drummers alive, two incredible guitarists, a decent bassist, skilled Dj, Awesome percussions and good mixing. Slipknot blows away todays competition. Thats the reason they are also one of the most widely known and "loved" bands out there today. These are factoids from VH1's site, MTV's site and of course Rolling Stones site. And my own personal view on it, from the people I meet and talk to and what I see around me.
