Re: January 205 - Attack on Quni
Hao looked out to the arrayed army. So many soldiers, he had to prepare to flee...
Rong would have none of it, Quni had remained independent all this time, no silly outside King would ruin it for them. After having convinced Juangzun, they tricked the Governor into joining the lines, pretending it was a fleeing party.

Re: January 205 - Attack on Quni
The Siege of Quni, January 205 BC
Having somehow managed to expel the Red Mask bandits half a year before, the small city of Quni in northern Changshan saw a great need for a strong army if it would wish to maintain its independence from the various kings and dukes that had begun to sprout up throughout the land. While the governor Ba Kang had done an undeniably admirable job in defending the city, there was still some measure of dissension within his subjects, and even a successful war could not placate those dead sent against him. Late in the month of December, a figure rose to the front, a healer of common birth by the name of Zhi Hao. Preaching amongst the rural peoples of the region of Quni, and even gathering a sizeable Xiongnu force that would provide the strength of the rebellion, Zhi Hao managed to overthrow the governor and establish himself as the leader of Quni. It would not last long.
Having failed to protect the Emperor, the Imperial escort had fled to the lands of Wei, joining the Prime Minister in service to Cheng Dang, who would shortly come to declare himself the King of Wei. Seeking to gain a stronger hold on the north to counter the undeniable strength of the King of Jiaodong, the King of Wei had dispatched much of the Imperial Guard to seize the city of Quni, including the General Rou Jang and Administrator Mei Xuan. However, the man at the fore of the army was one Marshal Rang, a strategist of little note, who hoped that the seizure of Quni would be the start of a promising career. With a force over forty thousand strong, thereby outnumbering the modest defenses of the city-state by over four to one, there was little doubt about the outcome of this battle, just how long it might take the aspiring tactician. The two armies drew up their lines for battle but a few li away from the city gates. The battle for Quni would begin on a crisp January morn.
Having seen battle before, General Rou Jang knew just what he should do. Approaching the Marshal with the Administrator Mei Xuan and General Huai Shan by his side, Rou Jang begged of the Marshal Rang to have the sizable force of cavalry harass the garrison of Quni, hedging them in on all sides to leave them immobile and vulnerable to fire from Rang's archers. Though the Marshal sought glory for himself, he saw great wisdom in the General's request, and did acquiesce to his suggestion. As the Xiongnu warrior Yaobu sent out some men to scout out the enemy formations, hoping to gain more information than the pickets could provide, Yoabu was horrified to hear about the immensity of the enemy army. So great was it that the warrior Peitaishi Rong could not bring himself to stand against it, though this also meant that Marshal Rang's scheme to capture him was ruined as well.
A scholar of some talent that had accompanied the campaign rode to the fore of the army of Wei. In a bold voice, Huangfang Zhi cried out to the enemy, "You who once defended your city against brigands now serve them! The man Zhi Hao is no sage, but a thief and charlatan who would see you delivered into the hands of the Xiongnu! Lay down your arms, for the Kingdom of Wei comes not to conquer, but to save! Under the gracious and glorious King of Wei, the city of Quni will be safe from the attacks of bandits and states alike!" And so many of the men of Quni began to waver in their loyalty to the healer Zhi Hao, uncertain of which would give them the simple thing they desired: peace. But there would be no peace early in January, for no amount of words would deter the blade that had been drawn. And pointing that weapon, the rumored Sword of Guojian, toward the enemy, Rou Jang began his attack.
As the hordes of Wei swept over the rudimentary defenses that Peitaishi Rong had assembled, the Administrator Mei Xuan took a squadron of cavalry on a clandestine mission. Striking deep into the lines, Mei Xuan led his horsemen on a daring raid to harass the enemy supply line which lead to the city proper. While managing to reduce the supplies that flowed in by only around a tenth, the news of the Administrator's success inspired the men of Wei. By the end of the first few days of the battle, the Quni garrison had been reduced by half, with many of the men deserting their force, finding the King of Wei to be preferable to the peasant Zhi Hao. The longer they remained on the battlefield, they realized, the more likely it was that they would become a casualty of it. And even if they did not, there was tales of what happened to cities that resisted invasion in the past as opposed to those that surrendered. The sooner that Quni fell, the more likely that the wrath of the King of Wei would be averted.
Facing now only a force of some four thousand men, Marshal Rang realized that the time for brilliant ploys was at an end. With a simple nod to Rou Jang, the two began to lead their men in a coordinated, overwhelming strike at the last defenses of Quni. It was all that was needed to bring the will of the garrison to an end. Broken and scattered, the men of Wei managed to capture not only the warrior Yaobu, but also the healer Zhi Hao, who was captured by his own men as he attempted to flee in disguise back into the city. With no further resistance, Administrator Mei Xuan led the vanguard of the armies of Wei into the city of Quni. The last free city of the Middle Kingdom had fallen, now flying the banners of the Kingdom of Wei. All that remained now was to determine the fate of the remaining prisoners and to see if the King of Wei was to be the benevolent ruler that his new subjects hoped he would be.

Re: January 205 - Attack on Quni
May I have an update from the Wei folks what to do with the captives please, thanks
Re: January 205 - Attack on Quni
Oh sorry, yes, if captured and released soldiers could be made into the Quni Garrison that would be great. Captives are offered to the chance to help futher the King of Wei's ambitions or suffer banishment from all things Cheng Dang.
