Jiu Fen contemplated Bahn Tu's words. "I am looking more for a general sense of where the Duke stands amongst his rivals. I've been invited to serve in his administration, I thought it prudent to ask.

I have just returned from ten years of exile. When I left, the dynasty seemed untouchable. I now come home to revolution, or rebellion, however you want to call it. When I say I no longer recognize the political climate, I mean simply that the world is completely different from when I left it.

You must excuse my ignorance, but I hope you can enlighten me on current events, and how your forces relate to them. I need to know what I'm getting myself into, if you know what I mean."

Bahn Tu shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Drawing a deep breath he began.

"Please forgive me sir Jiu. I do not know what you mean. There is plenty a force for you to be assigned to and we have successfully taken one territory of a naive dictatorship and are on the eve of acquiring thier last, the only direct enemy on our present border."

Shifting again and clearing his throat Bahn Tu continued.

"I apologize but, these questions are sensitive, not customary. I understand your own desire to protect yourself and I assure you, you are not being led to slaughter. We have forces which will benefit from your leadership. It is not required for our survival, if that is what you imply, but both you and our cause could greatly benefit from a mutual agreement."

A knot appeared between Jiu Fen's brow. He was beginning to detect an uncomfortable tone to this confusing conversation. He breathed deeply through his nose and stood up. Nodding politely, he spoke.

"I suspect that I won't be a good match in the Duke's service. I think it useful to see for myself how this world has changed first. Please do thank him on my behalf for the invitation."

Assuming he is not stopped, Jiu Fen would take his leave.

Bahn Tu stood abruptly as Jiu Fen turned to leave.

"Jiu Fen, sir, perhaps you are right to acclimate yourself to the changes of the land before making a decision. I won't venture to say that you are not a good match for our kingdom and I'm sorry if I've offended you. Perhaps in the future, when Master Bai Zhan returns and you've had a chance to see the middle kingdom as it's become, you'll visit us again."

The advisor bowed politely and contemplated the conversation as the warrior guest left the court.

One August morning...

It had been many months since he had last come and visited, by Sha Zukang, Chief Diplomat of Changsha and a representative of the soon to be announced "Southern Coalition Communal" arrived in the city Jiangling. He approached the guards at the gate and asked, "I am Sha Zukang, representative of the administration in Yue. May I please have an audience with Ouhuan Bai Zhan? If he is not present, I will be willing to travel to wherever he is located."

The diplomat is shown into the audience hall, meeting not with the Ouhaun but the barbarian Bahn Tu. "A representative from our ally is always welcome, however Bai Zhan not currently in residence. I can send an escort with you to their camp near Yong... You might not receive a warm welcome without it, times being what they are."

(OOC: If it's cool, just barge in on the Yong RP currently taking place.)
