Yea RTK X As a ruler you spend all your time deliberating.
Anyone know how to turn it off?

I think I have to agree with this. I bought the game this past Saturday and was awed (read as: blinded) by the sexed-up graphics and design. Sadly, once you've managed to cruise right passed the weak AI and conquer the land, the game just gets boring and repetitive. I have to say as far as replay value is concerned, it is one of KOEI's worst games to date in this series (yep, I can still sit down for a few hours at a time playing the first RoTK that released on the NES back in the 80's). Sorry, felt the need to express my opinion.

Well, for replay value, I'll have to wait a few months to know that for sure :) When you talk about replay value, I have to bring up KoTOR again, which has excellent replay value. Not like the extremely weak-in-comparison Fable (or Fabie, as my brother calls it), which was horrible to play through after you did once.

But yeah, back to RTK. I've found myself going back to every one of the RTK games at some point or another. RTK 3 and RTK 7 the most, probably. I do enjoy playing RTK 1, but it is just so hard to play as certain people. If you don't have a couple good Power people in your army, you are completely screwed. RTK 3 is great, though. Even though it has the same problem that most of the other games have--"maxing" city development toward the end of the game, therefore fielding ridiculous armies--the game is excellent, and not too hard to do well as a no-name guy like Kong Zhou or Wang Lang (who is the only person I've actually beat RTK 3 with. Always quit when it is all but decided).

RTK 9 is the best, though, for keeping the economy balanced. You can never forget about food and agricultural development. I like that. I like their development system, too, which seems to operate off of squares. I wanted to do something like that for this sim, but I dropped it after Kymvir pointed out how terribly hard that would be for you poor rulers to calculate.

It would be spiffy if something like that could be implemented into the rules, but I do agree that it would become too much of a burden on Kingdom Rulers and Admins alike.

And I have the same problem with some of the older RTK games - onces it becomes a matter of just squashing your enemy, the game just seems to drag on (played a game of RTK 2 one time - was fielding Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Lu Bu, and Taishi Ci everytime - every battle was a walkover).

The upside to some of the later incantations of the series are the ability to play a ruler, an officer, warlord, ronin, etc instead of being tied down to a ruler (except for RTK 9 - that was a disappointment - ranked very low on the playability meter, right along with officer creation in RTK 10 - gee, I think I'll just give them 100 in every stat, win every duel, win every debate, and decide just how soon I want to revolt against the ruler just to see if I can get the game to drag on a little further).

RTK9 is actually incredibly fun once you figure out how the system works entirely. I created a new ruler with some decent officers in the YTR scenario and decided to try out a crazy strategy that works perfect for the game, and now my ruler is the undisputed Emperor and clearly winning. The only thing keeping me from sweeping Dong Zhuo off the map is trying to take out all the barbarian tribes.

Right now I'm engaged in battle with Wo. That should be fun. :P

That's why you -don't- give them all 100s .... ? The ability to fully customize created officers is one that a lot of people really wanted. Having an army full of the ultimate officers isn't supposed to be fun, it's supposed to be easy. And easy things generally aren't fun. People got what they wanted put in the game and that's a good thing.

Fair enough, and that certainly isn't what I did. However, it seems to take a little more challenge out of it vs some of the other character creation tools that KOEI has released with previous versions of RTK. True enough that it does give you a little more flexibility, but I really don't think that the creation tool stacks up too well against previous versions.

The horrifically well developed and wondrous sim, The Rise of Lords, is now doing open sign up testing! Why would you want to do that, you ask? Well, besides for the fact that TRoL is among the greatest things you'll ever lay eyes on and the staff members are great, we are trying to do the final balancing effects and take in suggestions for other game-related issues. You can help!

"What is that troll game about?" You ask? Well, quit calling it a troll game, cause it's TRoL! But, besides for that, it's (yet another) three kingdoms based sim. This one, however, focuses more on the historical aspect of everything. NPC's will reflect that, rulers will reflect that, mirrors will reflect that, all sorts of stuff.

"Okay, you convinced me!" You shout at me? Good! Here's the link!

The Rise of Lords

Get on over here! Oh yeah... and have fun. ;)
