"If you have come to seek employment- then, Master Zan, you are more than welcome here. it is a pleasure to others that share my vision. Could you outline to me your areas of expertise?"

"Well lord, I have spent most of my life as an officer in one army or another. I have much experience of the battlefield. In recent years, I had been living quietly in Di, governing a village, and making myself something of a diplomat and politician as well. But as I saw China slipping into the same sort of chaos I knew in my youth, I raised new forces, and became a military man once again. I have ill-used those men, I am afraid, but nonetheless I think those that remain would follow me here. I offer you their services, as well as my own."

A young warrior arrived who wasn't completely unknown to the guards. After all he had been their prisoner not too long ago. Nan spoke up, "Please make it aware that the general Shun Nan along with his forces is requesting to serve the ruler from the north. I was involved in the recent battle over Jinyang."

The guard looked slightly startled, but nevertheless explained the search and disarment procedure- Any weapons he was carrying were confiscated and would be handed back to him when he left. If he consented to this search, he was escorted through to the audience Hall, and told to take a seat.

A few minutes later, Yiye Shan entered.

"Master Nan?" Yiye asked. "Greetings, and welcome to Dai... I didn't expect to see you again after jinyang, What brings you here?"

The visitor had no qualms with being disarmed as he entered the audience. He began bluntly, "I need to enter your service. Not only do I have soldiers hailing from Dai in my army but I was defeated in battle. The time comes for independent warlords to be bound or they will be destroyed. For me it is difficult to wade through war alone being burdened. There must be an answer to this problem for I can't escape fighting, it has followed me for years now. Surely you will benefit, there is a talented man who follows me named Cang Lian. We're former Qin officers; assign us together and your armies will grow in power beyond what fraction I command now."

Yiye thought for a moment, before replying.

"I see, Master Nan. From your exploits on the battlefield, I know you are talented. You have come here to ask to serve, and all are welcome in Dai who come in peace. However, you would serve me best in your home province, in Wei. Would you find this a difficulty?"

"I don't have any problem staying somewhere I am familiar with. Shall I return now or is there something required of me?" It had been a long time since Nan took part under nobles. Who knew how ceremonious his new leader would be?

-=Once more, the red clad precession of the merchant prince Shanghu makes it's way though new streets. The lavish palanquin moves smoothly through the crowded streets, for what citizen would bar armed passage? The brisk morning air snaps the blood color standards marching at the head of the procession, adding a quick snare rhythm to the beat of marching feet.

Arriving at the simple administration hall of the governor turned warlord, Shanghu exits his palanquin once the step is unfolded. Today, the Grand Merchant is dressed in a rich purple, sharply embroidered with spun gold thread in the shapes of small taels. A cloth-of-gold sash cinches tightly around his waist, holding his traveling robes closed against the slight chill. Taking his ivory cane from the waiting attendant, Shanghu does not wait for Daiyu to approach, knowing her presence with him is an understood fact.

He steps towards the guards, his attendant scurried forward, his master's ledger clutched in his hands. Quickly, the servant places the letter in Shanghu's waiting hand, who then turns to hand it to the ranking guard on duty.=- "I am Grand Merchant Shanghu. I arrive in Dai to discuss business with the Magistrate Shan. I believe he and I can be of service to one another, and make a fair profit from both ends."
