The envoy nodded to the Princess, perhaps in acknowledgement of the seeming wisdom of her words. He listened as the King of Yin's wishy-washy answer.

"Marquis Lin knows that, if he throws the support of Yue to Yi Lian, the combined force will be able to match with Chu's. But that is not the point. Why waste the blood of our men fighting each other when we should be focused west? That is a counterproductive strategy and only serves to weaken us. Thankfully, the Qin heirs are still quagmired in their internal feud, but the window of opportunity is dwindling fast. A similar mission has been sent to the King of Chu as we speak and I can only hope the King will seek a more peaceful resolution. However, Your Majesty can definitely assist in influencing and refocusing our combined efforts. Unfortunately, if it comes down to it, my lord is prepared to honor his alliance with Yi Lian. The Marquis is hoping he does not have to go down that path."

"Well, I'm not sure what I could say," he replied. "If the King of Chu believes that Marquis Yi is against him, the onus is on the Marquis to prove otherwise. I would only bring an argument if there was one to be brought. At this point, all I could say is that the Marquis of Yue vouches for her sincerity, and I really don't think that will go very far. I've never had any direct communication with the Marquis of Huainan, so it's not as if I could say much from personal experience. Marquis Yi should be pleased that you would do so much on her behalf, but she needs to actually speak for herself at some point."

The envoy stood back up but his back remained bent in a bow. "Then I have said all I can say, Your Majesty. Thank you for your wisdom and patience. You could have easily brushed me aside without hearing the full story. It seems our only chance is if the Lady of Huainan will speak to the King of Chu and he will hopefully accept her explanation. I pray that no further blood will be shed in the south. Unless you have anything else for me Your Majesty, I ask your permission to return to Yue."

The king nodded. "That is all," he replied. "You may return to your master with my message."
"I can relate with the problems with open proclamation of loyalties," he replied. "And I understand the situation on your borders. However, there will come a time when your master has to choose, and that time may be coming sooner than you think. Better to declare of one's own free will than to be forced into one side." He felt a small tinge of regret over this, as it reminded him that he had not exactly chosen his loyalties, either.

These last few words stuck on him more soundly. "Monetary assistance? That's an odd thing to ask from somebody with whom you possess no diplomatic relations at all."
Jiang Bao replied "Yes my king, this is odd, even for me to ask it. My lord finds it hard to pick a side, oh Great King. Wei is situated in between the Qin, the brotherhood, Dai and of course you my King. Each seems to act differently from one another. If he picks a side, it will might as well be the end of Wei as of now, the other parties will invade us almost instantly. Remaining neutral presently at least gives us a chance to delay in inevitable attack on us sooner or later."

Jiang Bao shrugged and said "My king, I supposed the Monetary assistance can be seen as a form of business. We will repay with interest, of course that is if you are willing to lent us and provided we live long enough, that is of course."

Zhenfeng took in all that the envoy said, but didn't react immediately. Instead, he merely said, "What amount is he asking for?"

Jiang Bao bowed to the King and said "1000 gold, we hope to pay with a 10% interest. The payment would be in 3 installments, the 500 for 2 months and the balance as interest in the 3rd month. I understand the awkwardness of this request, but we hope to keep our fingers cross."

Not long after Xia Xi's short trip and back to Chen, a procession of the finest men Chu had to offer ventured into Yin. The small armed escort bore flags of Chu as well as the flags of Wu Guang. The procession stopped outside of Zhaoge and a herald approached the city gates. "Gentlemen, the Marquis Wu Guang has been sent as the official envoy of His Majesty the King of Chu, Chen She. He requests an audience with your King."

A column of approximately 50 men donning halberds and green and blue bronze armor could be seen approaching Zhaoge. The men were well-disciplined and marched in perfect formation, marching to the orders that were given out by one Cavalry Attendant Ba Zhan, who stood atop his horse, riding in the middle of the formation. Right next to him was the standard bearer who held a rather large flag bearing colors of a near neighbor: a forest green character reading "Liang" in the middle of a deep navy blue background. This band of men was given the right of way on the roads, though Ba Zhan understood enough about politics that he wouldn't attempt to disrupt the commerce of the province of Yin by forcing merchant carts off the road when he didn't have to: because of that, his men marched in a tight, well-maintained formation that used up as little of the road as possible.

They maintained this march until they reached the gates of Zhaoge, at which point the formation parted to allow the ranking officer, Ba Zhan, to step forward. He then dismounted from his horse and cleared his throat to speak to the gate guards. "Mah name's Ba Zhan, Cavalry Attendant ta Duke Xiang Kai o' Liang. I've been sent 'ere on a diplomatic mission to...how'dya say...uh...solidify our relations? Yeah, that's how ya say it. Anyway, I need ta see King Xia o' Yin. Is he able ta see me?"

Desparate times call for repeated AH responses.

And his wife and daughter have followed him to ensure his enduring health. In the mean time, Supreme Commander Li has been recalled from Zhao to administer in his stead, would you wish to meet him?"
