Xin nods in affirmation. "You have moved me deeply Master Fun," he says. "Your wisdom and ability to read the signs will serve us well. Unless you have anything else, a servant will guide you to your new home. Welcome."

Upon hearing the boom that is Han Liao, Xin smiled slightly before looking up at Yǒuzhù. Standing, he steps around his desk and bows to the officer. "Welcome to Yue Master Zú. I am Lin Xin, Marquis of Yue, and I hope your travels went well. Please take a seat and get more comfortable while tea is served."
Yǒuzhù returns the bow; low and sweeping, yet keeping eye contact with the Marquis. "Lord Xin, it is good to finally meet you," Zú Yǒuzhù said with a smile, then continued, "The trip was not unpleasent; and it would have been shorter, if I had gone with my first instinct and looked for you here in Panyu." Yǒuzhù settled into the chair that had been offered him and spoke, "I appriciate the offer of tea, but I do not wish to keep my soldiers waiting for too long. They would hold their formation all day, but I would not have them do that."

Zú Yǒuzhù pulled a business face and said, "I offer my services to you, Lord Lin. For you seem to have touch with what the people need. It is good that you plan to grow Yue in a way that is stable and benificit to the people. With my service, of course comes the service of the army that travels with me. They number 700 strong."

"This is a man who cares about his men," thought the Marquis with a smile. He clasped the leader upon the shoulders and said, "Then I accept your service good Yǒuzhù. Please go fetch your men. They are welcome to our growing group. I, too, would not want them standing in the hot sun for too long."

Xin sat back leisurely as he raised his cup of tea to his lips before responding. "I have representatives throughout China Master Ni. In fact, rumors of you had reached my ears several years ago but I did not have the resources or capacity to contact you...which is just as well because I don't think you were ready to reenter service at that time."

"Thankfully, times change," he continued, a slight smile played upon his lips. "And judgin by the several visits you have already made, I'm not the only one that has noticed."
Ni Zan's expression changed slightly; a fire in his eyes began to smoulder.

I had thought myself done with service - service to armies and war, at any rate. I thought I had earned the right to a little peace. The right to devote my time to the gentler arts, improving the lives of the people in the village of my birth, the home of my ancestors. But times, as you say, change. The strong hand at the center has been removed; China fragments, bandits multiply. Prudence has compelled me to take up my old trade once again. Who would defend my village from bandits, if not me? The Qin Magistrate in Guanou? He has time only to scheme how he may hold onto what he has. Bah!

Ni Zan told himself to relax; he leaned back in his chair and sighed. Then he straighted, and spoke again.

I apologize for making a speech, Lord. But you have implied matters which touch me deeply.

"Passion with focus is good," the Marquis simply stated as he waved off the apology with a shrug. "An apology is unnecessary Master Ni."

Leaning forward, he continued with a sigh. "I feel the same way. I started as the Chief of a modest village in southern Yue. My actions so far are a direct result of the causes you have so eloquently stated. If I am able, I will assist you in providing stability to your home."

"As you will it, and thank you Marquis," Yǒuzhù said as he took to his feet. "If you find use for me or the soldiers we will be at the ready," Yǒuzhù added as he bowed to the Marquis. Then he looked to Colonel Han and said, "Many more conversations," and he smiled as he bowed and left the room.

And it just so happens that I do have a recommendation for your lodgings. You are welcome to stay in my guest house for as long as you wish. Would you like someone to show you around the city?"
"No, that's all right. We can find our way. If we are finished here, we'll excuse ourselves. No need to trouble yourself for us Marquis," he responded. Assuming there was nothing else, the two would excuse themselves.

You are most kind to say so, Lord Lin. It seems I have made the acquaintance of a generous and far-sighted man. I can think of two ways in which you might assist me, ways which would cost you little. Firstly you might suggest an officer in your service with whom I might correspond. Events in the Middle Kindom are inter-related. Who can say that the fall of a pebble in Yue might not precipitate an avalanche in Di? Secondly, you may perhaps run across an officer of, shall we say, too adventurous a nature to find stable and prosperous Yue to thier taste? If you could mention me to such an officer, I would be forever in your debt.

Xin nodded at the elder man's request. "You can send a message directly to me or my trusted guard Hán Liáo. As for an officer who may be able to assist you, I recommend you contact my friend Long Rurong of the Raven Wind in Changsha. I cannot guarantee that he can help you, but he's the best qualified that I can think of at this time."

"Of course," the Marquis continued, "if the time is not right for you to reach your goals in Di, you are welcome to stay and assist me in the meantime."

Events in Di move quicky. I will have to return to my home, to see if I can catch up with them. But let me say this, Lord: any man with experience of war knows no plan survives contact with the enemy. If the gods fail to smile upon me, I will return to Yue, and seek to take service with you.

Ni Zan stood, and bowed deeply.
