Some of the other younger guards shared wide grins and whispers aimed at their superior's back.
As if sensing what is going on, he looked at his back yet the grins were gone as soon as he turned.
The Captain narrowed his furry brows in suspicion while he observed their faces.
They looked like stones. Calm and expressionless.
Stoicism personified.
The Captain just shook his head, now turning back to the old man.
He was sure he heard something about memory gap and old age...
"We're just following protocols, good sir. Nothing personal, eh?"
The Captain only nodded at the man and eyed his tattered clothes for a bit.
He would then give the signal for the guards to do the search.
The gate guards then grinned at the Captain and carefully searched the man and removed all suspicious and malicious items.
They would also take great care not to hurt him, for they are in a jolly mood today.
"Those will be returned to you upon your departure."
The Captain simply stated, as the old man was being searched.
"May we have a look at the letter please?"
And if the man would produce the letter, the Captain would take the letter from the old man's hands.
He would read it and inspect it for any forgeries of some kind.
And if it was good, the Captain would signal for the men beyond to open up the gates.
"Follow me please, good sir."
The man would then be directed to the entrance guards, who again patted him down and removed anything threatening they could find.
With the two searches completed, it was time to enter the Administration Building of Shangdang.
The entire first floor of the complex was dedicated to audiences, what with all of the suites for exalted officials located higher up in the building.
The walls were like a maze, painted with dragons and symbols and all sorts of things.
Though sliding doors were hidden throughout where men and women alike conducted their daily business.
Eventually, they were taken to the opposite side of the floor where they were motioned to remove their shoes.
Just as a flying shoe came spinning off towards the old man's face!
And if Shengtu would not be agile enough to dodge the surprise attack,
It would hit him squarely on the face, the softness of cotton bouncing off with a touch of smelly feet.
Boink.
"First Blood!"
A tall woman shouted down the halls, booming ominously in a crouched position.
She seemed to be the one who threw the sandals. Quite surprised by the look on her face.
At the sudden appearance of the old man in sticks escorted by the guards.
Yet twenty differently sized shoes came showering her down from the back.
With two women in heavy armor running all over the place, sandals held in gloved hands.
Giggling and having fun at throwing shoes at each other, not noticing the old man.
They seemed to have taken the sandals from the meeting room at the end of the hall.
"Err...dare desu ka..?"
The tall woman said warily, a sandals torn and mangled beyond recognition in clawed hands.</font>
