Zhi sat there silently for a moment considering what would be the best option. Should he really work immediately for someone who he really knew nothing about? Why did he care about refugees? What's more, he knew a similar ruler existed in his home of Yan and would probably tell him the same things. He thought for a moment that if he worked for that ruler he could fight for the name of Yan... But Zhi was never much of a patriot anyway and this idea was soon forgotten. Then his mind settled on the Marquis' final statement. It sounded like a challenge, and Zhi's confident smirk began to arise from his previously blank face.

"Well," he began, "I don't know that many suffering a dark day will ever turn to me, but I assure you that if you place me in the vanguard very many will turn tail and run. They will be your enemy and they will learn the meaning of a dark day."

His eyes began to glow with a passion that was not previously there and he tipped his tea slightly toward the Marquis before taking another sip. Inwardly he was gleeful at the prospect of having found employ so easily and thought of what type of horse he would buy, what color it would be, and what he would name it. Maybe Bei Shan II? Bei Shan Junior? Bei Shan's Ghost? No matter, it would all be settled with time.

Xin nodded firmly. "And so it shall be done. Have a good rest tonight and tomorrow, we will go over the plans for the upcoming months."

Lin Xin wrote:"Thus, I believe it'll be mutually beneficial," continued Xin as he turned to glance at Liao, "if the good Master Han here can show you around as you get acquainted with the area these first few days. What do you say Liao?"
"It would be an honor my Lord," he replies with a smile. Turning to Ren and master Sun he bows and extends a hand in the direction of a side door. "Right this way, I can take you to your new quarters first, then, if you like, we can take a tour of the city," he says as he orders an attendant to take up the esteemed families possessions. He couldn't seem to stifle the grin on his face as preparations were being made to introduce Lady Sun to the rest of the Marquises host, equally hard to expel were the thoughts of someone being brave enough to try and claim this girls heart, for surely to brave sling and arrow would prove less daunting a task, he mused to himself.

Sun Bai laughed softly as he stood from his chair. His age had given him a perspective that few young men could understand, and while he did relish the idea of being active again, he knew that working under Lin Xin would be to much for him to handle. His place was at home with his wife and that was something of an accomplishment for him to admit.

As he bowed his refusal of the Marquis' offer, a melancholy came over his old bones as he realized that now the last Sun heir had left their home. Without Rin there was little purpose left for staying in Feiqui aside from a dilapidated manor and a broken legacy. Perhaps someday, he would abandon that place and move the family somewhere else. 'Like this one' he thought with a smile.

Rin was torn between excitement and sadness and couldn't decide which her face should display. She buried her head in her grandfather's robe and was comforted to find herself wrapped in an embrace.

"I don't want you to go" She whispered. She managed to hold back any tears, but only just.

"I'm not leaving yet child" Bai patted her head with some amusement and extricated himself from the girl's clutches, leaning down to look her in the eyes. "I'll stay until you're settled, tomorrow morning at the earliest."

A dazzling smile spread across Rin's lips and she nodded, turning back to the Marquis in time to hear his request for Han Liao. "if the good Master Han here can show you around as you get acquainted with the area these first few days. What do you say Liao?" At this, Rin's expression only brightened and she looked toward Liao with a girlish excitement.

"It would be an honor my Lord." He turned to the pair "Right this way, I can take you to your new quarters first, then, if you like, we can take a tour of the city,"

"I'd love to!" Rin exclaimed. As she skipped up to stand next to Liao, she noticed the grin on his face but was too enraptured by the moment to wonder what it had been about. Later on she'd remember that look and spend hours trying to decipher its meaning

Liao nods to the senior Sun before saying, "Ah, so we will have the benefit of your company as well, truly an honor. I am sure that you would appreciate the work Lord Lin has done to protect our city. Perhaps you might have a suggestion or two for us, as I am sure your experience would be most appreciated, even if your services are only as a temporary consultant."

Turning to his master he then bows to him before asking, "Is there anything else your Lordship desires before I show them to their quarters?"

Xin shakes his head to Liao's question. "No, Colonel," he said. "Unless our guests have any other comments, you're free to go."

Sun Bai shook his head brisquely and nodded in the direction they'd entered from. "No I don't think so. It seems that Rin is eager to be taken on a tour of the city and I'm very tired. A journey like that at my age is something of an accomplishment." He turned to Liao and gave a curt bow, hair falling across his shoulder as he did so. "Please lead on Colonel Han."

Rin hastily bowed as well to both men and mustered her most serious adult voice.

"I'm honored that you've found me worthwile, I look forward to serving you Lord Lin" She rose and turned toward Liao but did a double take, apparently having forgotten something she'd wanted to say. When she spoke again her voice had reverted completely to its high melodic norm "Oh, and I promise I'll do a good job too."

Turning again toward the Colonel, 'and here I thought he was a General, oh well' Rin smiled brightly and waited with muted impatience. her excitement at the prospect of exploring was almost tangible.

"Are we ready to go then? Maybe we'll be able to catch the sunset!"

Liao shakes his head and lets out a chuckle as he turns towards the door. Looking back at Rin he says, "If we hurry we might just catch it. The view from the wall is absolutely breathtaking." He wasn't sure when, or how it happened, but somewhere along the way Liao had become an appreciator of true beauty. Perhaps it was the horrors he had grown accustomed to as a warrior, or even the daily prospect that he might not live to see another, either way he had spent many a day sitting atop the wall taking in the unrivaled majesty that was Yue.

((We can take this to the Provincial RP if you would like to RP the tour, otherwise we can assume they had a blast. I'm good either way. ))

The walls of Panyu finally rose in the distance, bringing this journey to an end. The pair would likely be on the road again within the next couple of days, but it was invigorating to come to the city of a man who wrote to them. Shing Kong was on a light brown charger affectionately named 'Blackie'. He always seemed amused by it, but no one else really shared in it. Gan Lu rode from atop his nondescript colt.

"You have the letter this time, right? We might have gotten lucky before with Manager Lao before," Gan Lu asked, his voice strangely grim. He didn't much like the southern frontier, but he tried not to betray his nerves.

"I got it right here," Kong replied while patting his pouch, much calmer than his friend. He was actually sober, though that was because he ran out of wine two days ago. Gan Lu was relieved, but knew the man would just stock up in town. At least he couldn't possibly embarass them here.

It was not long before they came up on the great north wall of the city. Spotting a couple of gate guards on hand, Shing Kong shouted out to them. "We're looking for Marquis Lin of Yue! Could you guide us to him?!"
"Just because we do not know how something works does not mean it is the will of the Gods."

Panyu is where Zú Yǒuzhù found Marquis Lin Xin. He approched the outer walls. He had his army marching in a formation but the spears of the soldiers where held upside down. He hoped that this action would signify a peaceful intent. He called a soldier out to assume command of the formation. Then walked through the town to it's center where the inner wall of the governance compound awaited him. As he walked to the gate, he looked on at the guard on duty. "I am here to see the Marquis," he stated to the guard dryly.
