An honor guard of two dozen horsemen approach the capital of Ying Fusu, The soldiers can be seen carrying the blue and silver banner of Sima Shing, lord of Linjiang. Riding at the head of the column, his silk palacial robes replaced with more appropriate riding clothes, Sima Shing wears a half smile, glancing about as he approaches the gate. Stopping some distance away, he dismounts with his men, and walks them forward, humming slightly to himself. Shing pauses and offers a half bow to the guards.

Sima Shing "I am Prefect Sima Shing of Linjiang, come to see his Imperial Majesty. I am unarmed and relatively harmless, but I'm willing to submit to any and all security measures that are in place."

"Welcome to Nanzheng, Perfect Sima," replied the guard captain, Quan Shao with a smile which soon darkened. "Unfortunately, His Highness, the King, is currently supervising the reconstruction of Xianyang and is not present in this province. What is worse is that word has arrived that the usurpers and traitors are assailing the ravaged capital city as we speak, and so the King is organizing the defense of the capital."

"I can arrange a meeting with a ranking official, if you would like," continued Quan Shao.

Alone, a weather beaten man walks upon the cobbled roads leading towards the imperial capitol of King Ying Fusu. His eyes gaze far into the distance, as gaunt, hollowed cheeks rasply gather air. He braces himself upon what looks like an old, and worn walking stick, the man appears tired beyond his years as bags have formed deeply under his eyes. His skin is the color of dirt, from long days under the sun's light and his hair is thick and matted. Though, despite his appearance, he carries himself with an air of nobility, of one who is used to more. Where he has come from and who he is remains a mystery to only himself as he forcibly drags his weathered body throughout the streets of Nanzheng.

Finally, the ghost-of-a-man reaches the outer gates and the guards that await him, and it is here that he speaks for perhaps the first time in months.

"Excuse me," he began. "My name is Zhao Yong and I had a letter delivered to me some months back by a Wei Quan. I believe it is evident from my appearance that the journey here has not been an easy one. I carry no weapons, nor armor, but you still may search me if you must."

With that, he tilts his head forward, placing more weight on the seemingly fragile stick he clings to desperately. This is all he is capable of doing, it is the only form he can muster. The only way he can bow. He then falls silent, as his hoarse, raspy voice rests from its inactivity. Yong finds his lips to be parched suddenly as thoughts of food and drink dance throughout his mind. Already, he can feel his mouth moisten, but he remains still, belying the deadly, carnal desire to sate his hunger until he has been offered entrance. He, therefore, remains patiently silent, as he waits humbly.

Charlemagne wrote:The old scholar did as he was instructed, and set his leather wrapped tome onto the ground next to the minister. Observing the recovering man, he smiled. "It is a pleasure to see you again. I am glad that I have managed to complete my end of our arrangement. It was theraoutic for me to finally be able to write again. Much like your gardening, I'd venture."

Li Ning took a moment to relax, before continuing. "You look pale, Minister. Are you recovering from illness?"
Meng Yi nodded slightly, he said, "Something I drank disagreed with me."

He picked up the wrapped object and said, "So my work is ready at last? I am anxious to examine it. Did you have difficulty with it?"

Having been informed that this man should be arriving, the guards promptely admitted the man, granting him access to a place where he could rest and refresh himself until he could be seen. After a short wait, the man was shown into the hall of the Prefect of Han. The guards lining the chamber were all alert, but the appeared ill at ease. At the head of the room sat a man who was clearly preoccupied with something. When the guest arrived, however, he lifted his head to study the man who arrived. What he saw at least brought a grim smile to his face.

"Welcome, Master Zhao... you come to us in a time of great need. The King is under attack and there is feared that the Usurper may set foot within the City of the First Emperor."

Shing sighed

Sima Shing "Such a tragedy, I must say. Huhai cared not for the city until his Imperial Majesty took it. It would seem he prefers death and destruction to restoration and life. I will, of course, be willing to meet with any official that may have the time. The matter isn't as pressing as the one in Xiangyang, but it may be there soon."

"Of course," replied Quan Shao, inclining his head. A messenger was sent within to find a suitable official to meet with Sima Shing. After a few moments, the messenger returned, indicating that the Chancellor, Meng Yi, was available. A quick, but thorough search was conducted upon all those who wished the enter the administrative complex. When that was done, Sima Shing was escorted into the presence of the still-recovering Chancellor.

Li Si nodded and motioned for the minister to open the package. "I must admit, that my trade came back to me quicker than I anticipated. My arthritus seemed almost non-existant as I toiled away. So good, did it feel, that I lost myself in my work, and would often neglect sleep, burning my candles out as I wrote."

The old man relaxed and smiled. "I think it is a good likeness. If you find any flaws in it, I will gladly replace it."

Meng Yi held the work gently and smiled. He was gratified to have a new work to study after his time in exile from his former life. "I am sure it will be wonderful."

He looked about the garden and then said, "I am glad to hear that you found your work rewarding."

"I couldn't agree more," said the old scholar. "I've actually taken to writing some memoirs in my spare time. Not that I have much anymore. I have duties as a tutor now, as well as scribing classics such as these. Nothing so glamorous or important as the work you do of course," Li Ning commented as he offered the minister a bow.

Tracing his finger in the dirt of the garden, Ning made out some characters, and then quietly wiped them away. "I do hope your grace will be more careful with your diet. Our world needs men of your ability now more than ever."
