When she tried to step away, she found herself drawn back it, still connected with him by their entwined fingers. His lips pressed against hers, reflecting what she had just initiated. In fair turn the young woman found the return of the affection rather unexpected. Knot in her stomach began to loosen, though she found her knees giving her a bit of a struggle to stay up. Taking a little breathe as their moment broke, she closed her eyes momentarily, before opening them again. No this did not appear to be any sort of dream she was having, Xingnu had just kissed her, in turn for her having kissed him.

You have grown bold. The statement made her pause for a moment, and in a bit of a playful manner she expressed that she was contemplating this notion, the ornaments worn jingling in sync. Had she really gotten bolder? The answer was truly an obvious one, with Xingnu she had, and for Xingnu she imagined this boldness would continue to grow. Sometimes she wished she could find her voice simply to tell him what off of it meant to her, being taken in after events that had left her in this broken state, and to allow her to remain next to him through it. Delicately her free hand moved to his upper forearm, taking in the feeling of being close to someone for an extended period. With Xingnu it was comforting, a comfort she hadn’t experienced in many years.

After a moment the girl shook her head as if to lightly deny the fact she had been bold at all, though her smile revealed the play in her action. Suyin’s cerulean eyes glistened with sparks of both admiration for the man she had kiss, and happiness for the situation she remained currently in. It was odd ow one could care so much for a person they knew so little about, but perhaps that was the beauty in it. She cared for Xingnu she knew now, not who he was, or what he would become… the here and now was what mattered.

He would watch her cerulean optics close, if only for a slight moment, prior to her expression relaying a gentle display of contentment upon their flickering open. Had she believed such that had transpired was a figment of her imagination? It was a thought, which would linger primarily due to the query that would present itself. How long had she envisioned such a scenario? Emitting a brief laugh, Xingnu extended his free hand caress her cheek in an ever delicate fashion, the tips of his fingers steadily running through her lightly colored tendrils, whilst his calming sable eyes bore a sense of tranquility even those who had held his acquaintance for a lengthily duration had nary before witnessed. “There are occasions when dreams become a reality” he spoke, only having presumed to comprehend her previous mannerism. It was impossible to be certain; however it was a worthwhile gamble regardless.

Her playful disposition would resonate alongside his own lightly forming smile that had begun to emerge, more noticeably than what had been already present. Whilst she gently stroked the fabrics of his robe, her hand moving at a gradual pace upon his forearm, he watched her attempt to deny the strength of both her resolve and character as a whole had progressed in a remarkable unforeseen manner. Slowly his hand would leave her’s and he would tenderly bring her into the warmth of an embrace, before briefly pulling away. “You are a far more resilient woman then you allow yourself credit, Suyin. It is an admirable quality. Do not attempt to convince yourself otherwise” he replied, his tone emitting a softened pitch, soothing to the ear as he sought to rid even the slightest amount of insecure she may have allowed to materialize.

Gazing into to her eyes as he had only a short moment early, his own portrayed the serenity of his intentions whilst he again held her close in a comforting manner; there was in actuality, a degree of irony in this twist of events she may never know. Throughout his life, Xingnu had been harbored a burden upon his shoulders, one with which overwhelmed him with guilt and was the reason he has initiated the schooling for the people of Zhao. Such was his means of seclusion from the looming contemplations that circled throughout this conscious, although it was merely adequate in this capacity. Truth be had longed for a purpose in life, something to dedicate himself to, body and soul. The tutelage of others served as a suitable venue, however it was not until he had taken charge of protecting the young woman he had rescued years ago, that he believed to have found a purpose worthwhile. In many ways, his growing fondness of the woman originated apprehension he had not experienced in some time. “It is I should am indebted to you” he would quietly responded.

Whilst the young woman relayed her intrigue upon witnessing a display of valor amongst the finest in this region, his demeanor shifted in the slightest of fashions when she began to describe combatants of foreign origin. Under normal circumstances, the young Master would garner a captivated interest upon such a discussion, yet from the tale this youth spun, it was a barbaric form of brutality. He had heard rumors of such in his conflicting with the northern Xoingnu tribesmen and the very aspect was insulting. “It is unfortunately those sully a worthy form of art, men gallant in their stance, fighting by means of a skillful blade arm and graceful steps. Whilst I shall not ridicule the activities of others, I cannot condone the actions.” He emitted a momentary chuckle when she inquired to the reason he had not participated in the tournament. “This is not for one such as myself, rather the purpose of the tournament is to survey the progression of my students. Nary a soul amongst has knowledge of my presence.”

"A horrid affair indeed." She said, gazing amongst the fighters. "But these men move well and fight like men of honor. You've trained them well!" She said, watching them. "I can understand not telling them," She nodded, "Being under the one who trained you can be a intense pressure to succeed. They would probably be mortified if they learned their honored master was watching."

Suyin’s thought stopped almost completely as he spoke, barely above a whisper to her. Such gentle words for someone who at time lived their life teaching other to use a blade, but that was why he was called Xingnu no? The tranquil fury. The unusually happy Suyin couldn’t keep the smile from her face, and her demonstration of affection did not lessen. With no words to illuminate her feelings, she relied on relaying her message. Skin against skin again, softly the tip of her nose brushed his, before letting their lips meet again.

Maybe she should have been more prudent with her affections, but that hadn’t been the lifestyle she’d known. The upbringing to be a perfect noble’s daughter had been destroyed during her time enslaved. Perhaps that’s why she remained far more open with the expression then what was expected, really what shame did she really have to lose?

Xingnu’s indebted to her? The young female questioned this for moment before lowering a hand to take him. Comfortingly she laced their fingers once more. The girl didn’t quite understand what he meant by it, but she knew the feeling. Whether he realized her own feelings of such, the subject made it more mutual ground between the two of them. Her life she felt indebted to him for what he had down, and he confessed a similar feeling to her. Strange how life would make such things work out. Slowly her eyes traveled to the horizon, where the sun had disappeared entirely, before tilting back her head.

Using one of her entwined fingers she motioned up. The stars were bright, and it appeared as though they were dancing, several streaking across the sky.

Yi Zhiwen breathed a welcome sigh of relief, glad that they had finally taken an earthly city to serve as their base of operations. Dabbing at the sweat on his forehead, the young general dismounted from his horse. Handing the reins to one of his subordinates, he walked to the edge of the small cliff to the west of the city. Gazing eastward, he regarded the city of Yanyu and watched as his subordinates led their soldiers into the city. He was glad that he had been able to attain a victory in his first real opportunity. It was gratifying to have been granted the opportunity to not only command so many troops, but also to be given the responsibilities of generaling the entire battle. Folding his arms across his chest, Zhiwen stood in silent satisfaction.

As Zhiwen watched over the newly acquired city, a small carriage made its way towards him, the horse stopping just beside him while the occupant of the open-air carriage observed him silently.

"You have the look of a proud father, Jianwei," noted Rui, amused. "Happy that the Yi Clan can finally say to have made its first steps towards its goal?" he asked.

Beside the carriage was Lu Ning, sitting atop his own steed as he kept vigil over Rui dutifully. To the other side rode Qiao An, who looked a little sick at the sight of so many dead bodies on the field below the cliff.

"This will undoubtedly garner the attention of that man, you know," Rui observed calmly as he, too, looked towards the city. "We will have to move quickly, or else be swallowed by his terrible strength."

This was my first battle . . . and I have to say that I performed more than adequately in leading our forces to victory. We won easily and was able to do so without having suffered overmuch casualties amongst our combined forces . . . I am gladdened that I did not mess this up."

"The former governor was but a pawn, Jianwei," Rui reminded him. "In the greater game, he is nothing but a pebble in one's shoe."

Slowly, Rui pointed eastwards. "And just a few hundred li away, is a man who seeks to become a king. His strength is terrible, and his officers far more capable than the corrupt former governor of this city," Rui stated before folding his hands on his lap and leaning back against the cushions. "Still, it is rather nice to know that the gap between he and we is now slightly less insurmountable than it used to be," he admitted. "And you did do well, Jianwei," he assured his friend. "Your uncle will be proud."

"My uncle would rather that I be more like you," replied Zhiwen, shaking his head, "Possessing of the scholarly erudition and the gift of gab. But I am more like my father . . . a straightforward thinking leader who demands unquestioning obedience." Shrugging, the young general flicked a look at his sworn brother. "If I ever do end up ruling somewhere . . . I am sure that I will turn out to be a terrible autocrat . . . maybe even worse than the likes of the mass murderers like Bai Qi and Xiang Yu."

"Your uncle wants only what is best for you," Rui noted patiently. "And some of his advice to you is wise indeed. You are a capable general, Jianwei, and anyone with sight can attest to that. However, a little bit of wisdom, of judgment, would make you a legend among men," he added. "He probably knows that you will unlikely be a diplomat, or a scholar, but he probably wishes you showed more restraint."

He then gave his friend a half-hearted glare as he spoke of becoming a terrible autocrat. "The reason they fell to such depths, Jianwei, is because they refused to listen to good advice," he reminded his friend. "You listen to me, don't you?" he asked wryly. "And I listen to others. If we do terrible things, Jianwei, it will be for the greater good, not to satiate our lust for vengeance, as those men did."
