"Send word to lord Huang." The silver haired smith from village 20 commanded, ordering for a runner to deliver the governor a message he'd written up. It's a simple and direct verse; diplomacy. He'd hope the runner could reach his lord before the fighting started. Looking over his shoulder at the men he was allowed to lead as a sub-commander, De Man recognized some of the faces from his own private army he'd raised back in the village.

"Be ready boys . . . and may the Heaven's help us." He rode out.

His filly's strong legs were able to carry De Man well ahead of the others as he marched out onto the field. He was separated by a great length from the rest of his men. The banners of Kai Zoku were painfully apparent as the lone rider came into range. "Ho! Kai Zoku, it is I, De Man! I wish a word with you."

Kai Zoku's men called out to him, announcing that someone was approaching the field....a man with white hair. Stepping out from his tent, Kai let out a sigh while wiping sweat from his face. The man had been letting his obsessive nature get to him as the hours ticked down to this moment. His horse was brought over and readied, the District Manager climbing up and proceeded to ride out and see just what the smith wanted to say.

"Most of my officers didn't think it was such a wise idea coming out here like this..." Kai uttered while trotting up in front of De. His gray eyes studied the man before giving a tilt of his own head. "What is it that you would like to speak with me about. Has your Lord decided to back down this foolish assault?"

Zha and Huangfang Zhi, arrived as reinforcements for Huang Fu's siege of Gaonu

Zha: I hope the Lord of Di, and Master Cheng know what they are doing, these men have yet to see a small skrimish against brigands, let alone a full scale siege.

Huangfang: I betrayed my former Lord Su Maio because he was an idiot, and fool. Cheng Dang, and Huang Fu were both former Qin Officers we should just follow their commands and everything will work out for the best. Besides Kai Zoku is a bleeding heart idealist, what kind of army can he have gathered in this short amount of time, all his men are young they know nothing of warfare first hand. It would be best for them to surrender I know our Lord is merciful, but I haven't the slightest idea of what Huang Fu will do to those who openly defy him.

De Man laughed.

"Foolish, yes. I could cut you down where you stand." He asserted, a glint in his golden eyes that begged for the man to question if he would or not. However, the apparent amusement on his face faded and became serious. "But, I am a man of honor. Huang Fu will not relent. I trust that you will not surrender to him either, huh?" Another smile flashed, but this one was laced with disappointment.

Kai couldn't help but smile just a little. Truth be told, the main reason why he actually did decide to come out here to meet with the man was so he didn't have to stare at the horrific sight that was his army. Despite how much he wished it, his advisers demanded that Kai not force his troops to be symmetrical the way he had first planned it to be. It took Fei to even get him to budge on agreeing to something other than his own proposal. "There is no way I am surrendering to that man. You tell him this though: He better pray that we are not victorious...because I need another head to post next to that pig of a governors I have outside of my Audience Hall. It needs company to help give a nice symmetrical look."

Laughing lightly, Kai waved a hand. "I shouldn't be saying such brutal things in front of you though. You are a good man De, even if you are on the opposing force. To think, you could actually be doing yourself honor by DEFENDING your home instead of becoming a bully like that lot behind you." Flashing the man a grin, Kai let out a sigh. "Though I'm sure you are happy where you are now..."

It was a good thing to see, that Kai Zoku was optimistic about the battle to come. Though De Man was not a veteran of many engagements, this playful banter before the heat of war calmed his nerves and brought a spirited zest to his character. "Not all of the lot behind me are bad men. Some are from my village, some are my friends . . ." He turned to look over his shoulder at them as they waited for his orders.

"Not bad men at all. . .but I'd wish a different fate on them if I could, you can take my word on that." Turning back to face Kai Zoku, De Man nodded firmly as a last retort to the rival governor. "Well, I guess it's almost that time then. Since you won't change your mind . . . I think I know what has to be done. Good luck governor."

And with that De Man turned his horse to head back to his men. They would be eager to hear his news, though he was unsure what he would tell them.

"Oh I'm sure not all of them are. I would love to believe it was a nice fifty fifty split of the good and bad...." Kai glanced upwards, lips pressed together in thought. "...but that is hoping for too much. As I've learned recently, there are just some things you can't force symmetry upon. Which is a very sad thing indeed."

As De said his final words, Kai gave the man a respectful bow of his head. "Good luck to you too. You are the only person on that side of the battlefield I would even dream of saying that to..." Guiding his horse around, Kai made his way back towards his own camp with a saddened look in his eyes. Oh how the young lord wished he had been the first to meet De at that village. Things today would be quite different.
