Lin Yue found Saofang Can not looking particularly busy. "Your horse is doing pretty well, actually. Very very fast, even. Of course, I don't have it right here, but we could go get it right now, if you like."

Lin Yue eyes lit up when Saofang responded, "Very, very fast you say? Well, I don't see any reason why can't go see it now." She then allows the governor to move first.

"Very well. It's a bit of a walk, but that's no problem for you, right? Anyway, just follow me." After a good few minutes of walking, they arrived at a stable on the outskirts of town, bustling with horses and stablehands. "Alright then, we're here. Your horse is in there", he said, pointing at one of the barns. "You know, among some animal-training traditions, there's a custom that one is only worthy of being given a horse to ride if they can instantly identify and bond with their chosen mount without ever having seen it before. So, do you think you could pull that off?"

Lin Yue looked at the horse after the long walk, and was thoroughly intimidated, she said "I mean, I guess, I really hadn't worked with horses...." She then sighed and said, "I might as well try right. Soldiers like a general on a horse right?"
Lin Yue then reaches up and pats the horse on the nose, it has been a long time since she has felt so small. She turns to Saofeng Can and says "I don't suppose you can give me some time to know him first, before I try to ride him."

Saofang Can followed the general in. "Do soldiers like a general on a horse? Well, maybe. Or maybe not. Maybe they just don't care whether you have a horse. If you mean to ask whether a horse makes you a better general, I doubt it. Perhaps you're thinking of S... well, anyway, it just seems to me that there are more obvious uses for a fast horse. In the context of generalship, that might mean riding away very fast from a fight gone horribly wrong."

He leaned against the stable wall. "Yeah, go ahead and take as much time as you need. I'd say, though, that you should get to the riding sooner rather than later. And... you know I wasn't serious about those riding traditions? I mean, someone told that to me once, and it was the silliest thing I'd heard the whole year. If people seriously had those expectations, nobody would be able to ride a horse, ever. I guess there are a few exceptions, but a horse... doesn't usually form an instant, unbreakable bond. Actually, they almost never form an unbreakable bond... but give them some time to get used to you, and you'll get along fine."

"Anyway, I do have somewhere else to be today eventually, and I'd better not be late for that. So, anything else? If you need help practicing with the horse, I could help, but then again, the people here could, too. And it's not really that bad; it just takes some getting used to.

(Giving Lin Yue +5 Speed horse)

For reasons known only to himself, Baocen Peng left his usual abode to call on his trusty administrator, Saofang Can. Upon arriving where Saofang was staying, he notified the servant of his presence and waited for Saofang to have time to meet with him.

A little more than a half-hour later, Saofang Can arrived back at home, and went to the room Baocen Peng was waiting in after being informed of his presence. "Ah, so you've found time to pay me a visit, Prefect? Well, I'd offer to get out the drinks, but I have a feeling you've work to get back to and have already spent more time waiting for me than you cared to. If that's the case, we could put that off for some other time... anyway, what is it that's kept you waiting so long for me to return?"

"No apologies necessary, Master Saofang," said Baocen Peng with a smile. "I only stopped by to ask you about acquiring a fine steed for one of our fighting men. I've heard rumors about the one you picked out for General Lin, so I thought you would have no problem with this."

He held out a small bag that jingled. "Of course, I do have something to cover the necessary expenses."

"Mm, that one turned out pretty well. I'm still not sure what that was about soldiers liking a general on horseback, though. It just doesn't follow to me that a horse could make someone a better general... but, a fine horse is a good thing to have, just the same."

He shrugged, and briefly appeared as if he were doing some quick mental calculations. "So, a fighting horse for a fighting man? I think I know who you mean, then... met him not too long ago, when he came to ask about your offer. Well, I guess I can think of the kind of warhorse that might suit him well. I could get a pretty good one for about the same as it cost for the general's, maybe a tiny bit less, and given the asking price on the highest quality animals... I wouldn't recommend spending more right now. Am I to understand, then, that the bag contains the money I'll need to do this?"

"Indeed," replied Baocen Peng, as he gave the bag to Saofang. "As for generals, well, a man has to know what's happening in a battle, and horses are always needed for mobility. Some kinds more than others."

Somehow the bag contained just the amount of money that Saofang would need.

311 gold given to Saofang Can via KT income.
