General Gi laughed and truly it was a haughty laugh. "What do I have to fear? Perhaps those who lay outside my walls may fear, but, my army is unbeatable. No one will ever threaten this city as long as it continues to pay for my men's services." the scarred general commented before crossing his arms across his chest, his features growing stern. "However, I may be forced to turn my own men upon them at this rate. The fools don't seem to understand if they desire my protection, my military needs funding. If you care about this land, you'll whip those dogs into gathering my payment!"
"As you wish General. If I may be excused?" Liao Zun said, face white with fear and anger. Zun bowed deeply in an attempt to hide his emotions and appease the mad man in front of him.

It had been only a month since he left the province for Jiaodong and Shi Tong. Fang Ai found the territory familiar enough; nothing had changed. This in itself was noteworthy, however, considering where he was going. He rode up to the town of Dangfa and made himself known to the town watch. He was here to meet with Han Guang, and per his invitation, assumed this was the best way to find him. And so he made himself known, and waited for somebody to ultimately lead him to Han Guang.

The watch had been expecting Fang Ai, and when he was introduced led him outside the town and off to a small field on the side. Sitting in the grass with a rather large axe accross his knees was the former General of Wei. The field itself was trampled down from many footsteps, evidence of what Han Guang might have been upto before fang Ai had arrived. When the review of his men had finished, they had departed while he had remained to collect his thoughts, and decide his next course of action. When the watch arrived he did not stand, but he nodded his head to the newcomer. "General, this is Fang Ai. The one you mentioned might be coming to see you." The watch then left the pair as Guang spoke up. "Welcome to Dangfa, Fang Ai. So what exactly brings you here hmm?" his voice a bit gruff, and his mood mildly sour. The Ex-General wasted no time getting down to business.

Fang Ai politely bowed to Han Guang when he came before him. The mood of the Wei man did not rub off on Fang Ai, although he certainly understood its meaning. "I have come here for the similar reasons as to why you are here, General," he said, his voice subconsciously dropping to match the tone of his host. "At least, it seems that way to me. Not too long ago, I built up a force here in Jibei, consumed by hatred over the men who had pushed me from my rightful home. I was a Colonel of Qi, bred to fight against the Qin, but ultimately fighting against the Chu. I was defeated; we were defeated. Those like us, however, know that the battle is not over.

"My letter was sent before your recent march. I wish it would have come sooner. The nature of the beast that stalks us is not something that can be fought by one man or many men individually. I do not know if man has produced one like Xiang Yu, or ever will again. The error that I have made; that we who fight him have made has been to challenge him directly. That is why I am here. I do not come from my lord, but as a man of Qi who has respect for the work you have done, and knows that losing a battle with a makeshift force to an unimportant Prefect in Jibei is not the destiny that awaits Han Guang, the great General of Wei."

The man merely gave a nod of his head and the soldiers escorted Liao Zun away.

Lai arrived at the agreed meeting place, leaving his men and going forward, hoping to impress his contact enough to get him the job. He waited patiently for the man to arrive.

Planting his axe, he pushed himself to his feet with a slight grunt. Once upright he took a few moments to study his guest. His failure at Pingyuan had left a bitter taste in his mouth, and worse had shaken what reslove had remained in his few men. He was unused to such failures in his career, but the reality of his situation could no longer be denied. But could he a man who was once a King bow to another? Of this he was not so sure.

"Any man who fought against the Chu I can respect. Victory is not the only proof of courage. Xiang Yu is mighty, his generals fearsome, and his gaze ever watchfull." his tone still rumbled of his discontent, but he seemed to be easing slowly. "So then what is it you would propose hm? That I join forces alongside this Shi Tong? What fire burns in his blood that makes him the person that will defeat the unbeatable?"

A short distance from Dongfa near the border, Han Guang made his way to meet with this leader. Unsure even if he wished to throw his men at another attempt on the city, he was skeptical of this meeting. But Teng Suli had insisted they atleast make contact with this man. He knew he would be late but he did not care, and so he pressed on. In a few hours dusk would hit the area, as he arrived at the place. To his credit it seemed the man he was supposed to meet was still here. This brought a slight smile to his face. Dismounting he approached the man, not even bothering to dust himself off. "So then, are you Fei Lai?"

The burly scarred man behind Han Guang shifted from one foot to the other, a bit uncomfortable at the direction the conversation had turned. These lands were still controlled by Chu . . . still belonging to the Hegemonic King. Clasping tightly the handle of his sheathed sword, the man stood at the ready, prepared to protect his master if the situation called for it.

Fang Ai nodded to him, but seemed slightly shocked that he mentioned joining Shi Tong. He let out a small cough, then said, "Shi Tong is a politician. I doubt he will ever ride to battle, and for his sake, I hope he does not. I don't know if he has the courage to stand up against Xiang Yu, should it come to it. He does, however, have a fire for his land. I do not doubt he would defend our small territory in Jiaodong to the last."

He turned to the side, looking over the encampment. "He is like you and me," he said. "He has raised troops to fight. His mettle will be proven later. Should he prove unfit to fight the Dictator King, it would be to my shame that I followed him so far. In his speech, however, he is direct and focused. He speaks to men like they are men. He is a politician, yes, but only when he needs to be. I find no hint of deceit in his being, although I know he is capable of it. He, like I, bides his time until there is an opening. As I said, the beast we fight is not one we can defeat face to face."

Turning back to Han Guang, he continued. "My original intention in my visit was to get a gauge of your desires, to see how far they matched ours. I believe that, in our cores, that is the case. I cannot offer you anything from my lord--nor would I--until I know what your immediate intentions are. I am the head of the military in my master's force; I have the ability to discuss certain matters that may be to the benefit of us both. Know that I have come in peace, and with the desire to work toward whatever shared goals we might have."

Lai bowed, seemingly not fazed by the tardiness.

"I am. It is good you have come, I was unsure if you still had intentions upon the city. I am here to offer my support in exchange for... payment. Are you above using mercenaries to attain your goals?"

The scholar would not be impressive upon a first look, everything about him in fact screamed of weakness, except his steed. Hopefully, Guang could detect the man's intelligence which more than made up for his lack of prowess.
