No offense, man, but all those bands like Slipknot and Disturbed all sound the same. Especially compared to Jazz. It has so many ranges within it and are never the same as each other. Why? Because Jazz uses improv and it's own style of chords and progressions. You can also use much more instument combos with it, rather than just the drop B guitar and double bass. Jazz can range from many different emotions and styles, while metal really can only stay at one. Jazz in NOT all the same.
Obviously this guy has never heard of Dream Threatre, Opeth, The Ocean or Dragonforce

And do you know how rediculously hard it is to play double bass? If you time double bass wrong then you just end up stamping on both pedals at the same time and making one thud instead of a very fast series of beats. Trust me I've done it and made an idiot out of myself in the process.
You're wrong. I've heard all of these bands.
Music, literally, is my life. Jazz, Concert, Rock, Rap, you name it.
I do know how hard it is. Do you know how hard it is to improv a solo or articulate correctly hard phrases on a saxophone while keeping correct tone?
There is so much to Jazz that has never been encompassed into these metal bands you're talking about. I love metal and all it's sub-children, but, I really do have a LOT of respect for jazz.
There is so much to music that it bugs me when people go, "Metal rules, nothing else is better."

I invite you to show where at any point I said "Metal rules, nothing else is better."

And improvising solos while keeping in the correct tone is hard on any instrument, I never denied that fact =p

Pyro wrote:All System did to sound "poppier" was to play in DropD tuning instead of C# like on thier other albums. Is that realy trying to sound light and poppy or is them trying to get a different sound out of thier guitars? =p

And listen to Steal this Ablum. Well actually listen to Toxicity, Steal this... and then Mesmerise/Hypnotise. The sound of Steal This... gradually goes towards the sound froun on Mesmerise/Hypnotise indicating that what they are doing is progression and not appealing to the general masses. Besides there were plenty pop-rock songs on the first three albums. Spiders, Mind, Forest, Aerials, Highway Song, Mr Jack. How many were on Mesmerise/Hypnotise? a grand total of 4. Oh look. Each other System album had exactly 2 pop-rock songs on them!
Their whole sound changed man. They had the guitarist sing more, the drums got lighter and the lyrics became more political and less humerous and they seemed to become more focused on hating republicans than anything else. Now, I dont have any live the hard headed R brigade, but I dont wanna listen to it in my music. See, the thing most people dont know is they resigned a new contract with their label Paul. They were given alot more money to "Listen to the advice" of the company. Yeah, they're not sell outs at all  . They used to be one of my favorite bands till they sold out man.

First off, dont tell him hes wrong and dont tell me I'm wrong. We have an opinion, same as you pal. Second, neither one of us ever said "metal rules", you assumed as much. On a general level, I infact stated that I do not enjoy metal, so you can happily retract that statement right there. Improving is done on everything man, so chill. I respect Jazz, I just dont respect todays current musicians playing said genre. So in short, dont put words in our mouths and dont tell us we are wrong. You can disagree. But thats all.

Every musican has to know his stuff man. No more than Jazz, no more than Opera or fing country. You have to know music to make music.

I said, 'He is wrong, I have listened to those bands." Not saying his opinion is wrong. I also wasn't implying the people I was talking about were you. You misinterpeted.

Daron didn't sing any more than he usually does. Rick Rubin turned up the volume on Daron's vocal tracks while recording the album. He only took the lead on one song from those two albums and Serj still sang in it. Likewise the drums didn't get lighter, they were just turned down a little so the bass and guitar stood out more. That was actually something I liked, On thier first two albums it was hard to hear thier bass and guitars over the drums in a some songs *cough*Know*couch*. And the political thing, umm when haven't System been political? You only have to read the sleve notes for thier self titled album and see all of the political issues they want to sing about =p

And could you tell me where you got that info from? I haven't heard a thing from it even from people who don't like System.

Pay little heed to my friend here, he's just mad because his band isn't nearly as good as Slipknot, or the Insane Clown Posse for that matter.

Haha. ICP is the worst group on the planet.

That was the insult.

And I'd be careful where I insulted ICP. Their music is bad and their actions deplorable indeed, but that's not what earns them my ire. It's the crazy fans. They're everywhere, and they'll probably go on some tangent now about ICP being the band most listened to worldwide with the most fans ever in the billions and like OMG they are such good wrestlers who don't fix their fights.

Just a warning.
