It's interesting to see what cities people have as their priority choices. Almost everyone is tryig to get as far away from Chen She as possible.

Depending on how many people attempt to rule, I may or may not decide to rule. If 18 or less were to sign up, then I'll pass. If, for example, 30 people try to sign up, I'll throw in my lot.

Of course, if I do end up ruling, I've got my guy all planned out. He's going to be crazy, since I never got to play as a crazy guy before. That means I'd start out right next to Chen She and/or Yingy. Safety and success rate to win the game be damned, I'd make war on them both the first turn.

Advisor: "Sir, there are about a dozen soldiers outside the walls."
Emperor Ying: "So?"
Advisor: "They're not ours."
Emperor Ying: "And?"
Advisor: "Apparently, they've declared war on us."
Emperor Ying: "..."

Yup...but we'll see :)

I've tried so many times to roleplay evil, psychotic, malicious, ect. characters and they all just fall flat on their face. Heck, I can't even do a gruff, yet kindhearted warrior right... Guess I'll just have to go with my usual goodguy. *sighs*

*pats sbennet on the head*

Nice sbennet! :P

I'm going to keep my character's character a secret, it'll become apparent as the game progresses.

What I've found is that often, when ruling, people's characters tend to become rather dry and neutral, matching the way people try to rule. A lot of times ruling responsibilities get in the way of character development. However, if you keep the right perspective on ruling, you can avoid that.

I look forward to seeing some interesting personalities come out. That's part of the fun of being staff; getting to see all the ideas people have for characters.

Personally, I tend to get into the harsh politician or the gruff general type a lot. Hopefully, I don't do that this game with my PC, although I probably won't be hugely active with him, since I have other things to focus on :)

Politics make my brain melt. I like being fodder..mm...

Character development? It's a very fun thing, woot! Though i'm probably the only one who would stab his friend in the back due to IC issues. I love playing my character by the personality I give them. Not my own personal beliefs and character. I find that very boring, because every character is the same then.. :?

That sort of thing has happened to em everytime I've ruled. I never signed up to rule, but started as an officer. For a few weeks or a month everything goes good and I get in some nice RP and I'm being the character I wanted to be. Then somehow I become a ruler and there just isn't time for my own character or continuing on as that type of character will wreck the kingdom. :(

Taking the mantle of rulership does tend to alter the character. Being a ruler you can no longer be concerned with just your character and instead need to focus on all your officers as well as your allies.

However, personally I feel that you shouldn't abandon what is true to your character for the sake of the Kingdom. The Kingdom is a reflection of the character that rules it, thusly if such a character would 'wreck' a Kingdom, let it get wrecked. After all, I doubt the second Emperor of the Qin is doing everything he could to forestall his empire collapsing. Rather he is being true to his very flawed self.

Hmm. Ruler sign-ups have been open for a little over one day, and there's 17 people willing to rule. Not a bad sign at all. Looks like the insane <character name here> is going to be throwing his lot in.

Of course, I still need a name...curses, why couldn't I just use the same name everywhere. It'd be so much easier than thinking up a (somewhat) unique name each game.
