Xiang Zhuang wrote:Xia Xi had been speaking with an aide when his daughter and Li Ning arrived. He gave his daughter a warm smile and regarded the elder man with a nod. "Hmmm," he said, "I did not know my daughter had any interest in poetry. The only arts I've seen her engage in are the more martial ones. But perhaps it might keep her off of the training grounds a bit."

He thought for a moment. "Regardless, I have already hired an adviser for my daughter recently. I would want to know that you could provide other services than just this. My payroll is a tight one, and I cannot frivolously spend on my daughter as I used to be able to." He gave her a bit of a frown.
"Oh," was all the old man could manage, as his gaze shifted between the man and his daughter. He wasn't really shocked by the news. In fact, it was a relief for the people of Zhaoge that the man hadn't dallied in hiring a tutor for his daughter. The girl had put his sense of responsibility in doubt to this point. But it was no matter, while slightly depressed, it was nice to know that he was not needed here. "Well, i don't know that I could, your grace."

Shaking his head, Li Ning had to stifle a chuckle at the embarrassing moment. He could well have been another ten miles towards home now, had he not gotten on that carriage. He too, turned and frowned at the girl. Breaking into another smile, he held his hands out in a helpless gesture. "I am a scribe of little talent, and a poet of even less fame, Lord Xia. I am old, and learned, yes. But I am unable at this age to carry myself from town to village, and to and fro, and whip troops into shape. I can manage books, and I can write them, but beyond that, I am not sure there is aplace in your service for me."

Liangyu frowned, and shook her head,

"And why can't I have two tutors, father? Remember, the Qin demanded we stick to one ideology and look how well that turned out! This way, I can see various ideas instead of one point of view. Besides, the last handmaid I got turned surprisingly good at other stuff. Who knows what else Lord Li here is good at?"

It wasn't really out of an interest in poetry, but feeling bad that she had made the man come all the way, only to be refused by her father. She grumbled, and pouted,

"Well, I still think he should stay here, even if he can't do much for us. A good writer will always be useful at something, the same as a good warrior, like me! Or am I just another frivolously expensive person, Father? Someone told me once, that sometimes, the brush is mightier than the sword...And if you're comparing it to my sword, I gotta admit, that's pretty mighty..."

Liangyu then pointed out how distressing it would be to send the old man back,

"And he works out of a rickety old shack down south in a more dangerous land! And it's so far away... One of the Seven Silver Poets of Chu, reduced to that state by the Qin book burnings? It's terrible. If you refuse him, Father, I shall leave once more and accompany him home, so I know he is safe and sound."

Putting her hands on her slender waist, she gave him that usual stubborn look she had had as a child, everytime she wanted something and refused to give in to reason. She wasn't budging this time either.

Ah, the wonders of being spoiled.
Yinzi wrote: As she again straightened, the young magistrate gave an extra nod toward the prefect's daughter. "I hope that we will become very good friends, Xia Gongzhu," she added, sounding genuinely hopeful.
"Oh my! That's wonderful. I'm pretty sure we will be. Kindred spirits, we are, and we both have Yin's best interests at heart...We'll take care of one another, most definitely."

She bowed to the Magistrate, and waited upon her father's reply. Usually, this was the point where the official joining them was asked to put her name on the rolls of officials...but was that hers to point out?

Xia Xi stood up and took the seals from the lady politely. He put them inside of a fold in his robe, then sat back down. "I am very thankful that you have made this decision. I would urge you to return to your town and inform them of this change. When you return, I will have your seals prepared for you, and then we can discuss in greater detail how we can use both Xuandi and your own abilities to achieve our goals. If you wish, my daughter could perhaps accompany you. While very little in the town will be changing, it might help them to get a feel of what the Xià family is about." He turned to his daughter and smiled, believing that she would enjoy such an endeavor.

Xia Xi was considering whether or not this old man would be worth paying the typical officer's salary to, but when his daughter seemed to get upset he knew he no longer had a choice in the matter. "Now, Liangyu, I didn't mean he couldn't be your tutor. I just meant that I was hoping he could fill another void that we have in our administration." Turning back to Li Ning, he said, "Master Li, I believe you would be a fine tutor for my daughter. She certainly seems to like you! I would not be able to pay you a commensurable salary, however, without further service. I wouldn't ask as scholar such as yourself to participate in army dealings. There are probably other matters you could attend to, though. If you can find a certain type of paperwork to assist us with, I can probably spare the personnel to have you carried from place to place." He started to chuckle a bit, as the thought of his daughter holding Li Ning above her came into his head. He added, "I think we can find some role for you to play. If that sounds acceptable to you, welcome aboard."

"I am certain that the people of Xuandi will welcome your daughter as if she were my own sister," Jin Yinzi assured with a respectful nod. Turning her attention likewise toward lady Xia, she wore a friendly smile. "If it would please you, Xia Gongzhu, to accompany me to Xuandi, I will do all that I can to make the visit a most pleasant one."

"R-right now?"

She turned to her father, a bit startled at the sudden offer, then, signalled to her maids, and bowing to her father, asked,

"Well, I think I'll take Lady Jin's offer. But I have to get packed...Ooh, this is a bit of a rush. We'll be seeing you again later, Father."

With this, she headed over to Yinzi, as her maids started to bustle off and get things ready for the princess,

"Well, let's go. We'll ride together in my carriage...Whenever the maids get it ready..."

She sighed. Hopefully, that was soon.

(OOC: Yep! To the provincial roleplay thread! Though...this is my last post for awhile, as I have to go home from work now.)

Shang fixed himself after bowing and said, "Again, I thank you for seeing us, and I hope that both you and Lord Xiang have a lasting friendship with one another." Ren followed suit as well because he didn't want to seem disrespectful or ignorant in anyway. Shang gave Lady Xia a bow as well before beginning to leave, unless stopped.

(continued from Yin Provincial Roleplay)

Xu Liang had finally arrived at the city of Zhaoge with Qing Dun, of whom he was escorting, and without wasting time he swiftly proceeded to show him the way to the Audience Hall and upon arrival he quickly addressed the guards with a bow.

"I am Xu Liang, I have here with me a certain man named Qing Dun who wishes to speak to our lord Xia Xi. May we be permitted entrance?"

Qing Dun, being unarmed, was unafraid of any search and would submit to such, should it be deemed necessary.

(There's very little for me to think about right now. Just follow Xu Liang's lead - and don't insult anyone accidentally. You're good at that, so keep your mouth shut for now.)

"...."

No doubt his silence would be interpreted badly. His luck was about equal with that of a pig born with only three legs. He just hope it didn't translate into an equal tendency to get struck by point or blade.

The attendant, seeing that the visitor was unarmed, waved for both men to follow him into the hall. The journey to the Prefect's audience chambers was short. Offices lined the sides, with random aides and guards moving about, doing their work. As they entered the chambers, they could see Xia Xi sitting behind his desk, working on some sort of paperwork with his daughter, who was sitting besides them. A couple of aides were nearby. Filling out the room, the main entrance had a guard stand at either side of the doorway, and another guard stood near the left side exit. After he had entered the room, the attendant bowed to Xu Liang, then, upon receiving the Prefect's attention, said, "Announcing Chief of Officials Xu and his guest, Qing Dun."

Xia Xi himself raised himself just an inch off of his seat and gave his officer a small nod. "Welcome to Zhaoge, Qing Dun. And good to see you, Chief Xu. What can I do for you two today?"

"A Pleasure to see you my lord. while i was wandering around the villages in my free time i encountered Qing Dun. He seems to have a lot of worries concerning the villages so i thought that it was perhaps best if he consulted you about his worries. His worries concern the safety of the villages and where the loyalties of the villages should lie my lord."

With that said Xu Liang gave a bow and remained silent so Qing Dun could speak.
