Xiang Zhuang wrote:"Then follow me," the guard said, motioning to another, as they led the envoy in through the city to the audience hall. After a brief exchange with the guards there, they went inside. The 'stately diplomat' was led down a short but wide hall, past a few random aides and guards. Their walk culminated in a large gateway, which opened up to a massive room. There, behind a full-fronted desk upon a dais raised a few feet off the ground, sat Xia Xi and his daughter, Liangyu. Next to the King was an attendant, who seemed to be speaking with him as the entourage entered. A guard stood next to the stairways to either side of the dais, and a guard stood on either side of the entryway.

An attendant came forward and bowed to the envoy, then turned to the King and said, "Your majesty, announcing the envoy of the Marquis of Yue!" He gave the king a bow and stepped aside, saying, "Envoy, you are in the presence of the King of Yin. Act accordingly."

Smiling, the king gave the envoy a nod. "Welcome to Zhaoge," he said. "It must have been a long way for the Marquis of Yue's messenger to come, and such hostile territory to cross, or so I've heard. There's rumors of widespread banditry in the south nowadays. But I imagine that the Marquis has had nothing to do with this."
The diplomat bowed deeply to the King as he said, "It is an honor to be in your presence Your Majesty, and to her Highness the Princess Xia. While the roads are far more treacherous in these chaotic times, the Marquis of Yue felt this mission imperative enough to take such a risk. As for the alleged banditry in the south, I assure Your Majesty that those are just rumors of unknown origin. Yue and Changsha has flourished under the just rule of the Marquis." The stately diplomat remained bent over as he waited for permission from the King to straighten.

"Ah, ok," the king replied; his response hinting at a tinge of boredom. "Well, then, the floor is yours."

The envoy straightened a bit and said, "Your Majesty, my lord, the Marquis of Yue Lin Xin, wishes to establish formal relations between our two nations in hopes of reducing the chaos and to assist in providing a stable and peaceful environment for our people. The invasion of Jiujiang has concerned the Marquis very much and he hopes Your Highness can provide an additional voice in the pursuit of peace."

Liangyu yawned, and rubbing her eyes a little, she asked a maid quietly,

"Hey, who's that? Are we getting a new servant?"

"No, ma'am, it's an envoy..."

"Oh...OH!"

Liangyu shook herself awake and blushed for being sleepy, before answering the man,

"But we already do that, people are just too deaf to listen. Or maybe too far away. Apparently, it's either reason that your master hasn't heard it. I don't blame him...I'm not even sure which direction Yue lies from here..."

A small armed escort camps away from the city. Escorted by ten horsemen, an envoy from Yan appears at the gates.

"I am Lin Huan, a representative from Marquis Fei Lak of Yan, requesting an audience with his majesty at his earliest conveniance. These men can wait outside the city for me if someone can kindly escort me to the audience hall."

The man waited patiently outside the gates, it seemed these days his work was never ending as opposed to those few diplomatic missions he had had in the past under the Marquis.

(Moving the RP along until XZ shows up)

The guards looked Lin Huan quizingly, before the captain of the group snorted, "Are all envoys of Yan so close to their lord to call him by his personal name?" A small chuckle is heard from the back of the ranks, but the captain changes to a more serious tone and says, "You, and you alone, follow me, and I shall get you to the king at earliest posibility"

Thus the captain beckoned Lin Huan to follow him into the city.

(Note: subordinates calling their lords by their full name is a major taboo in chinese society, it shows insubordination on the part of the subordinates, and ineptness on the part of the leader. You should be "Marquis Fei". But, it hardly matters in this case, since losing the respect of a few guards is not the end of the world)

Huan sneered.

"My relationship with my Lord is none of your concern just as it is none of mine that your Lord's men lack the discipline to refrain from laughter at an envoy's expense. I am also surprised I am denied my own men escort me, but I will do my best to avoid any further expectations from my visit here."

Note: I have no knowledge of ancient chinese etiquette, though I would hope it is assumed an envoy respects them. You should of assumed he said Marquis Fei and informed me OOC of the faux pas. What's next, lack of respect because my character doesn't have a traditional chinese given name?

The guard captain stared confused at the envoy, responding, "But.. you just said 'These men can wait outside the city for me if someone can kindly escort me to the audience hall.' Is this not what I was just doing?"

(I decided to make note of it ICly because this is only a guard post. I do not intend any harm with it, I am just adding flavor to a generally generic part of the Audience process.)

The envoy shrugged.

"It was your tone captain, when you said 'you alone' that has perhaps confused me. It is not important, I do not feel threatened and do not need the men."

The captain shrugs in return, and says, "If you will, could you please follow me, then."
The captain then motioned for the envoy to follow him.

OOC: Now we play the waiting game, as XZ isn't exactly around for whatever reason, and I hardly think a proud envoy would want to see an underling.
