Cang Gui was born in Yin, on the banks of the great river. His father was a nobleman farmer, and held much fertile land along the banks of the river, as well as several prosperous fishing villages. When the Qin conquered Yin, Cang's grandfather willingly collaborated with the invaders, thinking to save his holdings. The gambit failed however, as his grandfather was stripped of all but a few poor posessions away from the river. The family struggled for years, until Cang gui's father slowly began rebuilding the land through shrewd manipulation of the Qin governors.

His oldest son, Cang Gui, learned how to administer the lands at his father's feet, and then was fostered into a Qin nobles family and was assigned to the army, where he learned engineering, military admininstration, and tactics in battle.

Then the rebellion started, and Cang Gui served the Qin for several months, funneling soldiers into Zhang Han's growing army. He himself was about to depart and join the Qin forces moving into Chu when Zhang Han's army passed his father's home. When his father failed to turn over his treasure to the soldiers, they looted, burned, and killed everyone they could find, except for Cang Gui's younger brother, who had been away.

When Cang Hu arrived to tell Cang Gui what had happened, the young man left that night and went to Chu, joining Lu Chen's blue heads in the war against the Qin. He served as a minor officer for months, until the Qin were crushed and their capital put to the torch. Only then did Cang Gui return home to Yin, where he found little left for him but ashes and grave markers. He now looks for a new place to start over under a clever leader.

Notes: Anshui is a young southern lass, slim of build but definitely quite fit, with her smooth skin noticeably paler compared to others of similar stock, though not remarkably so compared to ethnic Han. Soulful amber eyes peer out from beneath her inherited headdress from her mighty chieftain of a father, as her raven locks tend to be bound on either side of her head, resting on her shoulders. She doesn't seem to mind wearing noticeably less clothing than her more civilized counterparts, noting that, should it come to a fight, she has all the armour she really needs. A mild accent is heard in her otherwise delightful voice, and she tends to struggle with more difficult terms, but apart from this, her charm and insight are almost the equal of her skill with a blade. Almost.

Bio:
The most important Qin General during the Second Emperor's reign, Zhang Han was appointed Privy Treasurer by the first Qin Emperor. At the death of the First Emperor, he was placed in charge of constructing the massive mausoleum at Mt. Li to house the First Emperor's body.

When Chen She rebelled and was made King of Chu, an army was dispatched west under a diviner named Zhou Wen to attack the homeland of the Qin. The Qin ordered Zhang Han to free his slave workers, form them into an army, and march them east to subdue the rebels. Facing an army of close to thirty thousand, including divisions of cavalry and chariots, Zhang Han's unblooded slave army routed them in a pitched battle. Chasing the fleeing army through the Pass, Zhang Han defeated the Chu army again, sending Zhou Wen fleeing back to Chu. The remnants of Zhou Wen's army gathered at Caoyang, where Zhang Han, after celebrating his victories and establishing supply lines, engaged and destroyed them.

The general, his army now composed of veterans, marched east and secured the vital strategic point of the Ao Granary west of the city of Xingyang. Chen She dispatched an army west to defeat Zhang Han, who led out his troops and in a short battle won a victory, killing the Chu Generals. Zhang, well supplied by the Ao Granaries, began anew his advance east, coming to the rescue of the city of Xingyang and destroying the Chu army engaged in besieging it. Without pausing, Zhang Han moved east towards the seat of Chen She's power, the city of Chen. Defeating two more armies during his march, he quickly conquered western Chu and forced Chen She to flee his Capital of Chen. While fleeing, Chen She was killed by his carriage driver.

Xiang Liang, who had risen in rebellion in Wu and brought his forces west to join Chen She, sent two of his subordinates to attack Zhang Han. Zhang slew both in combat, and destroyed the army with little difficulty. After taking Chen, Zhang restarted his inexorable march east. Xiang Liang, avoiding the armies of Zhang Han, joined his army with that of Liu Bang's, and the two headed north, destroying outposts of the Qin at Chengyang, Pu Yang, and Yangqiu. Engaging a Qin army at Dingtao, they dealt a harsh blow to the Qin forces seeking to hold the north. The success of these attacks caused Qin to send reinforcements to their one victorious general in the field and orders to attack Xiang Liang. Zhang incorporated the reinforcements into his army and marched to engage Xiang's army. The battle was decisive, with Zhang Han clearly victorious, most of the Chu army slaughtered, and Xiang Liang dead.

Feeling Chu's fighting strength had been broken, Zhang Han turned his armies north, crossing the Yellow River and encircling the Capital of the King of Zhao, Julu. Leaving two of his subordinates to hold the city, Zhang Han built a long road and fortified the entire length with walls so that his supplies could arrive unmolested. The Zhao forces, numbering more than 30,000, gathered north of Zhang Han's army, but was too fearful to come to battle with Zhang Han.

Unable to reduce the city, Zhang Han settled down in a camp north of the city between the Zhao forces and his men, while leaving his subgenerals set up for a long siege. The kingdoms of Qi and Chu gathered their forces, quickly dispatching another force of 20,000 men under Qing Bu across the Yellow River to harass the besieging forces while they gathered the rest of their men. Although the troops made little headway against Zhang Han's capably led armies, Xiang Yu took command of the Chu armies and made preparations for his campaign. Crossing the river, Xiang Yu burned his boats so there would be no return, and destroyed all but three days worth of provisions. His men, knowing they now had to fight or die, charged the armies surrounding Julu, and after several long and bloody battles, routed and killed Zhang Han's subgenera's and cut off Zhang Han's line of supplies.

Zhang's army, which had become massive in size, ran short of supplies, and with his enemies safely behind walls, he had no choice but to begin to retreat back towards the Qin homelands to get food. Zhao Gao, the corrupt Chancellor of the Second Emperor, sent a reprimand to Zhang Han for retreating. Fearful that he may be executed, Zhang Han sent out foragers to gather what he could, and sent an envoy on his behalf to feel out Zhao Gao's intentions at the capital. Zhao Gao refused to even allow the envoy inside the city, forcing him to return to Zhang Han empty handed.

Faced with no further options, and having just suffered another defeat at the hands of Liu Bang's generals, Zhang Han sent to Xiang Yu and requested alliance. Xiang Yu agreed, and the two met, with Xiang Yu granting Zhang the title of King of Yong(a part of the Qin homelands). But Xiang Yu and his advisors were fearful of the size of the remaining Qin armies under Zhang Han's command. Soon afterwards, with Zhang Han safely away from his men, the allied armies waited until nightfall and attacked Zhang's army from all sides with all the forces they had available. The leaderless and hungry Qin men were butchered, with the death toll standing around 200,000.

After his men were scattered and killed, Zhang Han accompanied Xiang Yu west, and was officially placed as King of Yong when the territory fell before Liu Bang's men. Liu Bang, however, had been promised all the Qin territory, and after being made King of Han and banished west to Nanzheng by Xiang Yu, began to make preparations to come back east again. Xiang Yu went back to Chu, and after only eight months as King of Han, Liu Bang returned to claim the former Qin Lands and Zhang Han's new kingdom. Zhang Han raised an army and marched to meet the advancing armies of Liu Bang. After two battles, Zhang's forces were destroyed, and he was forced to shut himself up in his capital city of Feiqiu. Feiqiu was besieged by Liu Bang's forces, and after holding out for more than a year and a half, Liu Bang returned from his campaign in the east and had his army dig canals to flood the city.

Five years after he marched east to put down the rebels, Zhang Han, now King of Yong, committed suicide as his capital fell.
