"Perhaps," was all the old man said. He nodded to the men carrying the wine, and then made his way after them. "Thank you for your custom, Lord Chen. I can see myself out."

Without waiting for further instruction, Li Ning turned on his heel and made his way out of Huyang.

Qun was a sneaky old man, and not to be trusted. But Wei was family, wasn't he? He'd have to help. If his mother heard that he wouldn't well, it would break her heart. So what if his uncle was a rogue, not to be trusted. Possibly on the run from Qin authorities. Wei was family. He'd have to help.

As the man came to the guards outside Huyang, he bowed deeply with much fanfare. "I am Chen Qun, uncle to the Prefect. I believe he is expecting me."

News that his uncle was here had prompted Si to immediately inquire if a column of troops were in pursuit of him. When he had been informed that the man had come alone, Si went to the gates, billhook in hand. As he looked the man over, he ordered the guards aside. "What is it uncle? Wei was not expecting you, and I'm not entirely sure he'd welcome you."

The man motioned for Chen Qun to follow, and when he had cleared the guards range of hearing, he turned on the older man. "Well? What are you doing here?"

Chen Qun looked at his nephew innocently. As he made his way into the hall, he looked disappointed. "What? I can't pay a visit to my two favorite nephews? Your mother told me that you were doing so well, I thought I would come and see for myself. Maybe stay a season or two until things calmed down a bit back east."

Qun took a glance around and nodded approvingly. "As you know, your blessed aunt has passed on, and I have little to do to occupy myself."

Si looked skeptical, but stopped short of putting his uncle out into the street. He motioned a servant over and had quarters prepared. "You can stay for now. Wei will want to see you when you return. I suggest you keep to your quarters until then. And keep your hands to yourself."

Leaving the man with his servant escort, Si left to find his brother, and give him the good news.

Early in the morning, a small trading caravan entered the city through its western gate. The air was still wet and chilly from the morning fog, and the sun barely peaked over the city walls. Taking the main boulevard towards the marketplace place, workers began to set-up stalls and laying out the fresh durian fruits that the wagons had brought.

While this scene unfolded, one of the "merchants" and several of the caravan guards left the main group. They rode on their steeds down the main road towards the administrative complex. Arriving at the main gates, the riders dismounted and the lead person said to the guards, "Good morning to you, good sirs. I am Minster Sha Zukang, a diplomatic envoy sent by the Marquis of Changsha to meet with your lord. May I please be presented to Prefect Chen."

The guards didn't bother with a search, but didn't let the caravan pass the castle gates. Ska Zukang and one of his men, who was allowed to remain armed, were led through the corridors of Huyang Palace until they had reached the audience chamber of Chen Wei. After a short introduction by Chang Liu, the prefect looked down to the emissary with a nod of approval.

Chen Wei: I see that the Marquis is a man of his word. This pleases me. Tell me, Minister Sha, how can we be of assistance to Changsha?

Upon seeing the Prefect, Minister Sha bowed deeply before saying, "It is a pleasure to meet you, Lord Chen Wei. I bring greetings from the Marquis of Changsha. As you are probably aware, with the recent turmoil in the land, trade routes across the South have been disrupted. This has, of course, translated into a great loss of income for the merchants in Changsha and have even begun to threaten the integrity of their businesses. With the trade routes into Jiujiang closed, the Marquis has thought it might be wise to start moving some of our major trade caravans into Nanyang; in the process bringing our two provinces closer together and benefiting the economies of both of our kingdoms."

He then proceeded to reach into his satchel and pull out a tablet with some characters written upon it, handing it over as he said, "These are the names and dispositions of some of the trade caravans that the Marquis desires to send into Nanyang. As you can see, our merchants offer different exotic fruits from the lands to the south, as well as textiles and other trade goods."

Wei looked over the list of goods with some minor interest. There were definitely some supplies that he could use. There were some other things to consider, it occured to him, and he nodded thoughtfully for a mintue before looking up from the tablet.

Chen Wei: I think a trade agreement would indeed be in the best interest of my people. And of the rest of the citizens of Nanyang. I shall forward the Duke's sentiments to Governor Yi as soon as possible. I am sure that he too would be interested in some of these luxuries.

The warrior prefect looked well pleased about the notion of bridging the west with the more civilized east. They had their own natural resources that they could barter as well, such as lumber, and ore, and livestock.

Chen Wei: When could I meet with the Marquis? He is obviously a man who has all this trade and politicking well in hand. I would much like his personal insight on both my economic and governmental situations, as well as to thank him for considering my people and I for this oppurtunity.

Sha Zukang smiled as he saw the Prefect Chen's reaction. Trade is a very important element that helps bind kingdoms together; a great indicator that the movement for peace is still strong. He responded, "The Marquis is currently very busy ruling his province in the provincial capital of Nanjun. It might be a while before he has the time to go on diplomatic visits. That is why he has appointed me as Changsha's Chief Diplomat."

He took a second to scratch an itch on his left cheek, before continuing, "But he loves to entertain other heads of state should they come to visit him in Nanjun. I am sure that if you can find the time to travel to Changsha, he would be glad to meet with you directly."
