Galagros wrote:A disgruntled looking man made his way to Qufu, guarded by a small escort. He was dressed only in a robe, but seemed as though he wished he was wearing armor. The constant frown of despair mixed with the sneer of contempt seemed to contort his face into a very disagreeable expression. He spoke quickly to the first guard that he saw and demanded to be heard. "Find your master and tell him that An, of the Tian family, has come to issue orders from his King."
The pair of guards looked skeptical, but decided it was best if they brought him to Lao Yongrui. Not everyone came around claiming to be Tian An, anyways. After a quick search for weapons, temporarily confiscating anything dangerous, Tian An was lead before Lao Yongrui, who had news of An's presence and had laid aside the rest of his work to meet with the man. With little delay, he strode forward to meet Tian An, and said, "You have orders from the King for me?"

Tian An scowled again and held forth a letter (which he either gave to Lao Yongrui or gave to a guard to give to him). "I was not made aware of its contents, so I have little to speak of. I am only to tell you that success will please the King greatly and that failure ...," he sighed, "can bring ruin."

Lao Yongrui read the letter without repeating the words out loud. Looking back to Tian An, he nodded. He summoned his scribes, and wrote his own letter to Tian Dan, before handing it back to Tian An, sealed and very proper looking. "Very good. Thank you, Master Tian, you are free to leave, unless you have anything else to say."

Tian An, obviously upset about being left in the dark, grunted and bowed. "Good day, Prefect." And then he left to bring the return message to Tian Dan.

Three men in simple garb slowly walked up to the guards in a V formation led by Wen Chong. When they reached their destination they bowed in unison.

Wen Chong: Good day sir. We seek employment. Would there be anyone we could speak to that could grant us that wish? We will submit to any searches.

The three men politely waited for a response from the guard.

The guards study the trio curiously, and admired their formation. "Sun Tzu would be proud of your wedge", the shift captain said, before searching the trio, assuming a search was consented. If they found nothing, the guards would then lead the men to Lao Yongrui, who was walking the garden with an unnamed young woman. When he spotted his guards, he dismissed her, and listened as one of his guards whispered in his ear. After a moment, he responded.

"You've come seeking employment, then? This is a great fortune to me, but I'm afraid I don't have your names. Would you enlighten me?"

All three bow in unison before Wen Chong speaks.

Wen Chong: Please forgive my ignorance. I am Wen Chong.

Wen Chong gestures to the man on the right of him.

Wen Chong: This is Peng Xin.

Wen Chong then gestures to the man on the left of him.

Wen Chong: And this is Heng Bie. Is there any other facts you would wish to know about us?

Yongrui bows to each man as they are introduced. "I am sure you would know, but I am Lao Yongrui of Qi. And I would wish to know more of you, but I can see you are eager to serve Qufu, and I am not one to deny you. Do you have any questions you wish to ask me?"

Wen Chong once again takes the lead for the group.

Wen Chong: All we need to know is the directions to our quarters so we can begin to repay such an honor you bestowed on us.

"Wine?" Kong asked, offering his jug to his friend from horseback. Shing Kong was on a light brown charger affectionately named 'Blackie'. He always seemed amused by it, but no one else really shared in it. Gan Lu waved his hand in refusal from atop his nondescript colt.

Shing Kong shrugged and finished it himself before stowing it away again with great difficulty. Gan Lu sighed, wondering why the man always insisted on the stuff, but knowing better than to ask by now.

"District Manager Lao seemed like a fine enough fellow from the letters," Kong remarked as the walls to Qufu rose up in the distance.

"I would hope so. Why would we meet him otherwise?" Gan Lu asked.

Kong didn't answer. He was starting to regret finishing up the last of his wine here before a meeting like this. But it wasn't like he drank much today, they'd just been riding all morning and he hadn't touched the stuff until now. And it was only half a jug. Maybe not even that. It'd be ok, right?

He didn't have time to think about it. Before he knew it, the large north gate stood open before them. Rather than wander through the city and it's distractions, Kong decided to get the attention of one of the guards. Catching sight of one, he shouted out...

"Excuse me! We've received a letter from District Manager Lao. Could one of you help us find him?!"
"Just because we do not know how something works does not mean it is the will of the Gods."
