"The city of Guangling rests just north of the Yangtze; it is the home of a large number of fishermen and fishmongers whose livelihoods revolve around the all important long river. While it is not as fertile or as prosperous as the lands of the yellow river, the endless supply of fish ensures a steady stream of merchants and traders. Though sturdy earthen walls surround the city, a great number of buildings inside the city show signs—a number destroyed outright— of recent conflict.
The most notable victims of the takeover were, as it happened, the various government posts and courts throughout the city. Without a proper office to govern from, Kong Shui was forced to take up residence in a grand estate in the centre of the city. The large walled complex was handed over to the new governor after recent events left the building abandoned due to the sudden, inexplicable departure of its previous owner. The estate was refitted—namely, by stripping away many of its previous extravagances—to suit the tastes of its new owner.
The main hall, the only room accessible to the public, is of a simple design: a long, rectangular room with a number of doors on its sides. A large number of guards are posted on each side of the room, enough to almost cover the wall behind them. Once lavishly decorated, the hall is now barren and devoid of decorations or even furnishings save for a large round table at the end of the hall."
