The swordsman heaved a sigh, shaking his head. "Long have been the years of my imprisonment. So long indeed that many have forgotten the name, my name . . ." He stood and with a courteous bow to the Duke of Yan, he bade his farewell. In a low voice, he spoke, intoning the words of a poem he had uttered years earlier as he departed from Yan for Qin. "Piercing wind, freezing river of Yi. The hero fords, and he never returns! (风萧萧兮易水寒,壮士一去兮不复返)."

Lak stood and bowed, not able to do anything but accept this fate. There would be no point in learning the swordsman's name now anyway, though his curiosity was peaked. Turning to Khan, the Duke looked to the Heavens.

"I'm losing my touch old friend."

Sighing and displaying a sad smile, the Duke of Yan returned home.

A entourage of some 1000 soldiers, neatly dressed in full ceremonial armour arrived at the gates of Yan's capital. The soldiers were clearly escorting an armoured carriage. The convoy bears the imperial colors of Wei. A page stepped forward and informed the guards at the city gates.

"Please inform Duke Fei that the King of Wei, wishes to see him."

Duke Fei was sent for immediately. The attendants did their best to prepare for the King as well as they could while Lak, who luckily was already dressed for the occasion, went out to meet the King himself.
Presenting himself before the guards and carriage, one of his men announces the Duke who in turn awaits the King's presence.

Liu Jin stepped up and politely received the Duke. DIsmissing his guards out of earshot and motioning the Duke's soldiers out of hearing range as well, Jin spoke softly to Fei.

"Lets dispense with formalites, I have matters to discuss with you and a favour to ask actually.......

Once, when I was an aspiring scholar, I have searched for a worthy lord to serve. Despite the promises that several nobles showered on me, I found them to be all lies. I was dejected and in despair back then. And then an opportunity arrived for me in the form of the Wei province being in total chaos, anarchy I may say, no thanks to the corrupt Qin court.

With the help of several of my brothers I staged a successful coup in Wei and through several lucky turns of fate, the Wei kingdom grew to what it was today. Depite what the rumour mills may have claimed, my closest officers know that I bear no lofty ambitions to rule this land.

I have heard of your stewardship in the north, of your enduring successes against bad karma that has inflicted your part of the lands. It seems that you are possibly the man that will restore peace and stability to this trouble lands. If you will allow me to research your court documents, and that I am able to convince myself that you are indeed the man I have been waiting for, I will gladly commit the resources of Wei to your cause.

My army is commited to my loyalty, and I believe that Wei and Dai will follow my lead. Di remains to be fully pacified, but I believe there should be no major issues there. As for myself and some of my brothers, I believe we will retire from politics and lead a secluded life hence forth. I only ask that should you one day claim dominance over this land, rule with benevelence. Do not commit the same mistakes as the last incumbent.

Let me know if I am asking too much of you here."

OOC: Basically give me Yan's PH access, and you can have all of Wei, Dai and (depending on GM rolls) Di possibly. It is more for my learning knowledge to see how others run their kingdom. You also get my 100k reserve armies, in addition to those that are currently committed to battles. However, I will not be granting my PH acess to you. Will forward last KT to you, I think it is in nice order and will tell you everything.

As the Duke walked with the King away from the others ears, he turned in surprise when the man mentioned joining Yan in their struggles. He knew the King had payed a terrible toll upon himself when he plunged into the Chaos that was Wei and united it, but he did not know retirement or exile was an option. Often, they had exchanged tactics and advice, not always agreeing but always respecting the other.

"King Liu, this is unexpected, we are so used in Yan to meet opposition at every opportunity... this is most welcome, I am honored you and your advisers would deem me worthy to continue upon your work. I will take you to my offices, you can review the documents from there, of course your attendants will have free reign to go through all our affairs."

With the momentum from the victories over Yin and now access to Wei's powerful resources, Lak could not help but smile and think of Jing, his old friend who had been one of the first to push him into all of this. Dieu would not sleep for days trying to work through all the new possibilities. Perhaps Luo Xiao will be able to retire as well with his wife. Some others will have a lot more work to do, Khan and Rui, Ping and that old geezer Fang. His nephew, were he still with them, would be organizing thousands of banquets in the next few days, thought Lak as he smiled sadly. Ban would finally be able to conscript to his heart's desire his Azure Dragons, Cao will be able to work on his books. The Duke wondered if others would shy away fro the new responsibilities, Kong for example shone when given new tasks but left idle resorted to drinking. We might have enough power to end the wars, some like Ba would enjoy that. Kung Xian could retire back to Ji, so should Tzu for that matter. Lak also wondered how Min would react to being able to go back to Dai. Liqiu would finally have a break from the constant battles...

Lak shook away his thoughts and brought back his attention to the King.

OOC: I'll post my shocked RP later , but gave you PH access of course. Not sure what this means for the game that you guys are stopping to play and joining us...
Kind of a long post, tried to include everyone

"Very well my friend. I hope you will cure this land of the war plague. I will send word to the various governors in my realm to expediate the transfer. Wei has transformed itself over the last few months, and I hope you use its riches wisely. For now I will return to Wei to tie up the loose ends, you may assume control on the first day of Sep 208."

OOC: Liu Jin will not be joining the ranks of your hall, ICly he is "retiring". I will let the individual PCs decide and post if they will join you. NPCs are subjected to the normal rolls, I presume. Good luck with the rolls to take over the armies and cities!

PS: Have someone look over the engagemnet 2 in Henan, if we win that you will inherit 13 cities (if you pass all the rolls :P)

"Again, I am so humbled you would place so much trust in me, especially after all you have accomplished in so short a time. Before you retire to your estates, would it be possible to present me to your people? I'd like them to at least see my face and hear my words."

OOC: I'll write a proclamation at some point next week and we'll go from there I guess. I already sent PMs to some of your guys, will write to others later this weekend, not sure how many are actually active / interested. Mardagg will look into the 2nd engagement if Yuan Shu and Sir Ebrum decide not to finish it...

The guard nods.

"Certainly, Duke Fei is within, may we inquire about your name so we may announce you?"

Guards seemed to have the routine well in hand, though visitors were scarce these days.
