This time, Jiang's roar was not met and everyone cowered from him. Sure, the talk amongst them was that now they needed to get down to business with these new reinforcements coming to turn the tide.

As soon as the bloodshed started, the boy Tong disappeared again. The defenders pressed on and after hours of bloody fighting were winning the melee front, but things were still at a stalemate and the Raiders saw their profits dwindle as their numbers lowered. They sounded a retreat and the defenders cheered their victory until they saw the boy return with yet another contingency of horsemen to cut through in the ranks of the fleeing raiders. Surprisingly, not many were killed yet it was enough for the imprisoned town folk to be saved. Despite what arguably looked like a defeat to most people thatlooked at casualties and results, people were in a frenzy for the boy as he came to thank the defenders for their support.

As soon as the enemy was within sight, the Black Ogre was riding before their scant battle lines, roaring out his challenge for anyone to come out and fight. When Fu Ro ventured out to try his luck, Xian Long Rui was more than ready, and after a short duel, sent him flying back to his battle lines. Satisfied with his effortless victory, he stood at the head of his men, laughing at the coward's weakness.

His amusement was short-lived, however, as the battle proved to be much more dangerous for all involved. The men that the townsfolk were fighting quickly proved to be determined, elite soldiers led by competent leaders. Heavily outnumbered from the start, the attackers got the better of them t dragged on for hours, turning a zealous defense into a war of attrition between the raiders' human wave attacks and the defender's desperation. Vicious hand-to-hand fighting exploded into the streets.

During the battle Jiang made known his might, sending men to their deaths left and right. Yet finding himself distracted while plunged in the thick of the melee, he was wounded slightly by a bolt to the arm (OOC: to explain the level 1 injury from the PT). Finding it to be quite insignificant, he pressed on the attack, killing dozens more with his halberd.

However it was the boy, not him, who proved to be the hero of the day. Xun Jiang's eyes narrowed at the sight of the people's misdirected adulation for him, not with jealousy, but with realization. He was finally starting to realize what the boy was up to. Turning to his co-officers, he growled from within closed teeth, "We've been used in this fight.This better go well in the end."

Making his way towards the boy, he easily divided the crowd with his girth and the blood-soaked armor that repulsed them. "What of the prisoners, boy?" The last word came out with a sneer. If there was one thing he very much hated, it was being duped.

The boy looked around, proud of himself.

"The prisoners have been released already."

It was difficult for the boy to speak, a quick crowd had formed and were thanking him, it included some of the soldiers from the battle. Where was Yun?

People were asking the boy to hunt down the raiders to ensure they never came back. The boy promised them all would be well now. The mounted cavalry unit, now that they were not charging did not look so impressive despite being well armed. A small voice from the crowd asked where the Magistrate was and the crowd grew quickly angry.

As the dust settled, Ding Yi wore a puzzled look on her face. That battle was an odd one.. With the crowds now riled up in the aftermath however, there was little time to question the timely arrivals of the boy's reinforcements.

She hurried to find the boy, and also found the imposing figure of Xun Jiang there. Panting slightly, she asked the boy urgingly before looking back at the angry crowd, "Where is Master Yun?"

Hin Wu looked about the field with a speculative air. The fight had been a simple exercise, small in scale, though fighting inside the village itself had allowed for a bit of innovation. There was no question that the arrival of the horsemen and the boy Tong was directly responsible for the victory, and the townsfolk seemed to know it as well.

Questions still came to mind... The cavalry who arrived with the boy were not conscripts, but well equipped professionals. Their services would not be bought cheaply. Clearly the gold that had been alluded to in the clearing was not the only resource that Tong had, and the army's close proximity to the town bespoke careful planning, but perhaps more...

If the boy could seemingly produce one army at a moment's notice, why not two? The raiders, also, had been led by men of skill. The prisoners had been released with such alacrity that the order to do so must have been an order given before the fighting started. Given the paltry defense that the town had been able to summon to defend against the raiders, the boy could have easily taken the town by force, so this was not his plan. He had won the adulation of the people, and called the Magistrate into question.

So it was that he approached with the other officers, to join in the thanks being given Tong for his 'heroics'.

This quickly became not only monotonous but slightly sickening to behold, he had seen the boy's true disposition on the hill when he arrived. Detaching himself from the knot of well-wishers, he began to move amongst the cavalry who had arrived with the boy, seeking out an officer, their leader if possible.

Tianshi carefully cleaned his sword, taking care not to ruin the master piece. The fighting had gotten up close and far to personal, his lines nearly breached several times. How they had repelled them that last time, before the 'hero' returned, was a point of either prowess or desperation. Or both. Finishing his task, Tianshi took his helmet off and wiped the sweat from his head. Many men had died so that young Tong could play the hero. The fact that Tianshi was almost one of them, annoyed him greatly. Things had worked out in the end, but a few more of Tong's 'plans', and Tianshi knew trouble would brew. If not form him, then from the brute ogre that they were working with. If it came to that, Tianshi seriously doubted he would try that hard to stop the massive man from killing the young boy. Shaking his head, Tianshi put his helmet back on and rode over to gathered crowd, a bit curious as to what Tong would have to say for himself.

Tong brushed their questions away with what could only be called regal indifference. He was basking in the crowd's adoration. After a while, he returned to address the many questions as the crows finally were exhausted from the day's events and emotions.

"All of you have done well."

That was it, he turned exchanging pleasantries with the men that had come with him to save the day. Before the 'heroes' could react, a man addressed them.

"Commander Tong expects your presence at his headquarters as soon as you can gather there to continue with his plans."

No response was given for Yun's whereabouts and futhermore, two of them men that had helped them disappeared, Sun Chi and Tai Zui.

Hin Wu was not getting much more luck, the saving grace of the town were not only well armed and seemingly veterans, they held their tongue and refused to speak, gossip or even listen to the Duke. It was an admirable discipline, one not usually found in mercenaries or any kind of townfolk...

OOC: So, let me offer some guidance here, Tong's headquarters, inquiries into the current Magistrate of the town, search for Yun, search for the two departed NPCs... you guys can split up or do them one at a time, up to you.

The boy's arrogance and blatant lack of appreciation left Xian Long Rui with a boiling rage inside, and he was almost tempted to throw himself upon the boy with his halberds flying. Repetitive deep breaths did his explosive temper just a bit of good; he needed to finish this job -his professionalism demanded it- and killing the boy wasn't going to achieve his ends and desires. With that, he stormed out of the crowd, smashing his gigantic, armor-clad body dangerously into whoever was in his way. "Perhaps... I'll just kill you after this job is done," he muttered under his breath, casting one last look of despise at the scene behind him. He was definitely not going to heed that boy's summons, feeling that it was demeaning and insulting to be lackey to a pup.

The cries of the people for the magistrate's head, however, had piqued his attention. Xun Jiang knew who he was going to look for, though he did not know where he was going. Mounting his steed, he discerned the most obvious choice possible, and sped towards the magistrate's palace. Once there, he led himself straight towards the guards.

"Where is your master, the magistrate of Jingpo? I seek audience with him."

There was a part of Hin Wu that was un-piqued by the boy's handling of the situation, the rational part which appreciated an intricate and well-prepared scheme even though it inconvenienced him personally. Despite repeated questioning, the boy offered no response to the whereabouts of his caretaker Yun, much to the dismay of Ding Yi. The crowd continued to grow around them, as many wanted to cheer and thank the young 'hero'. Feeling increasingly uneasy and claustrophobic, she pulled herself out of the ring of people, patting her chest with her right palm as she breathed a sigh of relief.

Ding Yi turned back while she wondered what the boy was up to.. were there more tricks up his sleeve? What other secrets were he keeping from them? Shuddering at the thought, Ding Yi moved away from that crowded area and began to search for any signs of Yun in town.
