Yet, in the end, the truth of it had hardly been as grand. The man had been a scholar of sorts, even if the utmost mad of sorts, who had taken refuge within those grand halls. Yet, there was some truth to those rumors. Endless wealth had been gathered within those halls and every coin, gem, and piece of fabric had been given away to those who sought honest knowledge. It was said in the end, the man had laid the foundation to fund countless works. That the temple itself had nearly doubled in size and the library nearly tripled from the grand donations of that man. Yet, the rumors claimed that those who came out of greed was turned aside. That once a man who had tried to seize his fortune had been turned aside at sword's point.
While in the most recent month, it was said the man returned once more with a chest filled to the brim with twinkling coins. It was enough for a man to retire upon in peace and it was promised to the man with the grandest poem or tale. Yet, at month's end, the man departed once more. His chest given away and his advice given to any who sought it.
Yet, in the cold month of December, the unnamed scholar returned again. Yet, he did not return alone. A host of workers followed after him and with a smile he settled within that Temple's grand halls once again. Even as over twenty workers began to add onto the temple, creating new archives, a small crew of men began to construct a side project underneath that scholar's gaze. By the end of the first day, a overgrown field had been cleared and its ground smoothed. By the end of the second, a grand stage was constructed. By the end of the third, a small stadium had been constructed. While by the end of the week, the full affair was created. A small stage, nearly twenty foot across and four foot above the ground, had been constructed upon the far end of the field. While upon the opposite end laid a stadium for the crowd to sit. While between the stadium and the stage, an open field had been fenced off.
Within a week, the grounds was ready. By the end of the next week, word had spread across the land. Both runners and the people carried the word from Qufu. Spreading word of a dueling tournament that was soon to be hosted within grand Qufu. The rumors proclaimed that grand prizes awaited the valiant warriors of the land. That wealth and weapon awaited those who would dare compete.
Yet, to each of the halls of nobility across the land, a second message was sent. An invitation to something called The Champion's Ball. Within the letter, the event was described. A second dueling tournament would be hosted alongside the first. A tournament in which only the most valiant of warriors would be permitted. The letter called for the warlords of the land to send their bravest champion to compete for both prize and honor.
