Xiuying had to admit - She often followed crowds. In her wanderings, she had seen many a crowd, and all of them gathered about interesting sites. After hearing about the warriors tournament, however, she was excited. The most she had seen were the gladiator's fighting - which she regarded as a brutal, barbarian display of strength, that she never again attended. But she had heard of displays of strength such as these, where the combat is not bloody, and the one carrying strength and skill would get victory. Thus, she hurried off to watch this swordsman tournament, eager to see the skill of the men in this village, and the pride of Zhao.

As she advanced in the crowd, however, she drew eyes upon herself, being an unescorted lady of her age, and looking as she did. She did her best to avoid the larger crowds, As they spoke and followed her curiously, as she arrived at the tournament grounds. She grew slightly frustrated as she saw the crowd look upon her, biting her lower lip lightly and grumbling under her breath. Word of her spread through the crowds relatively quickly, reaching the ears of most, although not overshadowing the anticipation of the combat...

Yes. Breath-taking indeed. The wordless maiden watched him, trying to both hear his words and read his body language. One lesson she had learned through her struggle was that once the words were taken away, how a person carried themselves physically gave away their true intentions. Too often did men try to speak gently to her, shush her, when in truth she knew where it was going to lead, wolves were not sheep. Xingnu’s stance reflected his speech, he stood firmly, yet not to solid to move when need be. There was no force or hurry in his step, just patience.

As he took her chin into his hands the young woman’s heart skipped a beat, of that she was certain. Strange colored eyes met with his, she was certainly an oddity to behold to those up close. Slowly her hand moved, replacing itself in his hand where her chin had rested. Instead of pushing away the contact she merely held his hand, lowering it to in front of them. Her fingers danced with being entwined with his. Softly a smile of her own crept to her lips before she drew near. Xingnu may or may not have suspected it coming, but Suyin completely closed the gap between them for a moment. Her lips pressed against his for a few seconds, before she drew back again pressing her lips to his cheek.

When her connection with him was ended she took a step back, simply smiling. There appeared to be no expectation for anything in return, no eyes longing for some unanswered question. Merely the girl had revealed her own affection, which lifted a great weight from her own chest, and how it ended was up to him. It was strange, she knew so very little about his past, only his present and that was what she loved him for. In turn he knew about as much as she knew about him, only she didn’t have the ability to really speak or it, and it would be far too vulgar to ever keep a written record of in her opinion. What shame it would be to have their own enslavement written of, unless one burned it immediately after, but her hand would never stay steady enough to recall.

Whilst retaining his idle observation of the tournament proceedings, Xingnu began to hear the feint whispers of some of the younger male individuals conversing in regards to a young woman. Upon this juncture, the Young Master paid little held, such was the happenings of youth, and it was as though an rare occasion for young men to discuss to their delight, a young maiden perhaps they longed to court. His sable optics would glimpse momentarily toward the display of martial skill transfused with the elegance of swordplay. His students were exhibiting the refined skill he had imparted upon them through dedicated tutelage and was content to witness their maintained of discipline in spite of his apparent absence. He had forewarned each the actions presented would reflect upon the integrity of the school and his own reputation as a Master. While the latter was of merger importance, it was a necessary façade to assure competence and rational train of thought was expressed in earnest.

Unfortunately, his concentration was muddled, derived from a heightened tone as the aforementioned youths had garnered the attention of their comrades, alongside others to whom had begun transfixing their gaze in a specific direction. Xingnu pressed the lower portion of his form against the wall, straightening his posture, and initiated a search to discover who had captivated such attention. Gently brushing aside the townsfolk to allow himself a superior glimpse he would locate her with minimal difficulty. Her youthful appearance belied his initial consideration, having not expected to witness a teenager, at least not with the amounting attention. He would inwardly concede she certainly warranted praise, beautiful young woman could be argued as an understatement. Evidently, the lustful eyes, leering upon her was causing discomfort. He had intended a subtle interference, his presence a likely determent however; the abrupt attempt to accost bore a hastened reaction. “Perhaps it best leave her be” he responded, a rhetorical query for all intended purposes. The youth decided a more antagonistic retaliation and the ramifications led to an immediate loss of consciousness through a simple hand cut across the neck, harmless and devoid of blood. It was enough to dissuade any further qualm. “My apologies, I would have preferred a less confrontational out come. I am hopeful to not have disrupted your enjoyment of the festivities too much.”

Xiuying jumped slightly as the large man appeared suddenly, accompanied by the crumpling of a man who had grabbed at her robe. She opened her mouth to say something, but shut it, staring at the man slightly. Finally, she reopened it. "Th, Thank you..." She said, sheepishly, looking down. "I...I should apologize...And especially to whoever organized this tournament, since I seem to have distracted the crowd..." She said, staring down. "I...Should go, before I make the situation worse for the fighters and their organizer. I truly thank you for your help, Stranger...Oh! That was rude, I'm sorry. I am Guan Xiuying. May I have your name, sir?"

Marquis Black wrote:Rui gave his friend a half-hearted glare. Certainly, he was still quite weak from his illness, but that didn't mean he thought he should slack off for it. Moreover, he couldn't stand the inaction that came with resting--it drove him mad. Still, he had come to know that look in Zhiwen's eyes. No amount of talking would convince him once he got that look. Furthermore, he really didn't get want to get whacked on the head again.

"Very well," he conceded grudgingly. "I'll retire for now. But first..."

He waved over An and Ning and pointed at each one while he gave them their orders. "Ning, I want you to continue finding recruits," he ordered before looking at An. "An, you've seen me do it hundreds of time now, so I'll leave the training drills to you. Make sure they've done their drills before dismissing them for the day."

As the two gave their affirmatives to his orders, silently quite relieved that someone had managed to bully their master into resting, Rui turned to his carriage-driver and motioned for him to take them back. Once on route back to the village, however, he turned his attention to Zhiwen. "Even if I need to rest, Jianwu, I will need to travel to Di in a week or so," he informed his friend. "There have been...worrisome rumours about that province, and I need to go, personally, to make sure that our allies there are in no danger."
Yi Zhiwen emitted a soft sigh of relief, glad that he had managed to cow Bai Rui into submitting to his will and glad that he had only had to use a modicum of force to do so. Shaking his head, Zhiwen returned the scroll to his saddlebag. After Bai Rui had issued his instructions, he guided his horse alongside the carriage as they returned to the village.

"To preserve your constitution, it would be best if you rested for the remaining days of this week before embarking upon a long and wearisome journey to meet with your friends in Di," replied Zhiwen, patting Bai Rui on the arm. "The Yi clan cannot afford to lose the loyalest and most hardworking of its vassals . . . especially when our goal is yet achieved."

Rui chuckled knowingly, as though he knew something his friend did not. "Maybe it is closer than one would think," he mused out loud. "When I went to Chu to appeal to the Imperial Court, I was informed that they had dispatched a force to settle Zhao," he told his friend. "This is most fortuitous for us, Jianwei. An Imperial Force will undoubtedly number near ten thousand troops, and contain some measure of an officer corps, all of which we require to achieve our goal. Given that Prime Minister Fan has also subtly ordered us to support this force, then we could naturally use it to propel ourselves into a position from which we could feasibly carry out our plans with ease."

"I know who you're talking about," replied Zhiwen, grinning as he flicked a triumphant look at Bai Rui, "And at least this time, I am one step ahead of you. I met the man named Liang Wei recently. He had been tasked by the Hegemonic King to ensure the peace and stability of Zhao. I have already discussed with him about the Yi clan and of our agreement with Zhao Lang, as well as the possibilities of us working together. He has agreed to do so . . . until we can negotiate and hammer out a more thorough working agreement. In return for his help, I have offered my services as a general and the militia I have recruited to join his cause. I will help him take a city in this province in the coming weeks."

Rui chuckled at his friend's response, pleased by his farsightedness. "Well done, Jianwei," he praised. "With the troops of Imperial Chu at our disposal, we will finally be able to secure a base of operations for our future plans," he stated as he laid back against the cushions inside the carriage. "I see that I needn't have worried. I will take your advice, then, and rest before my trip to Di, lest I be a carcass when I see Fei and Kai-daren again."

The warmth of her slender fingers intertwined with his derived a softly coiled smile to emerge, nigh emulating her own. He was somewhat expecting such a response, her subtle attempts to portray interest more conspicuous than she may have presumed. If anything, he was pleased she had developed enough to trust him upon his word to maintain her safety no matter the requirement. What was unforeseen was her sudden draw towards him leading to her momentarily pressing her cherry shaded lips against his, prior to a soft miss upon his cheek. Whilst she had been progressively closer, to display such intimate affection was something even Xingnu could nary have anticipated and his immediate expression portrayed such a reaction. His thoughts were muddled, with his focus having followed suit, a rarity if there ever was. When she began to pull away, the only response to harbor within his mind was the one he would act upon, returning her affections, by softly pressing his lips to hers whilst her brought her close. The moment was equally as brief, a smile maintaining as he pulled away.

“You have grown bold” he replied, his tone retaining the gently subtlety that had become customary in their interaction. A momentary grin coiled into form at ever the slight pace, whilst he recalled how meek her disposition had been upon their first meeting and those shortly subsequent. Scarcely willing to venture from room she was provided, such speculation arose she may be incapable of forgoing her inability to trust alone or anyone to engage in communication of any capacity, simply overcome with the trauma of her experiences, something Xingnu would only ponder upon in agitated contemplation, having been unable to come to her aid sooner. Thus, her abrupt deviation from fear to admiration was a relatively perplexing twist. Perhaps, the catalyst to her gradual progression to growing comfortable amongst the students held within Xingnu’s refusal to allow query of her past or even idle discussion toward unveiling the mystery, or the manner by which she was treated. The young master was meticulous in his exchanges with the young woman, conversing with her only when she felt at ease and allowing only her to initiate any physical interaction, even to the slightest touch.

Regardless, he had little concern for the rationality behind her appeasement, content with having witnessed her deviate from her shell, if only upon rare circumstances. What was an unanticipated development was his steadily rising fondness of her, minimal as it had been for a lengthily duration, her continued desire to remain by his side served to strengthened such intrigue. The mystique of her characteristics bore considerable weight to facilitate this interest, although he had not the heart to query of her life preceding her ordeal, for fear her family life was riddled in a depressive loom or for all his knowledge her captivity could very well have been since childhood. His assumption would diminish such a suspicion, yet he could not be certain and was unwilling to risk her reliving memories possibly forgotten.

“You needn’t give such a second thought milady” he responded, emitting a momentary chuckle upon her relatively panicked induced demeanor, as though she had been at fault for the resulting disruption derived by the antics of a few individuals attempting to accost her. “I suppose lady fortune has granted you her blessing for we are one and the same” the Young Master replied, subsequent to her mention of tendering her apologies to whom organized the tournament she had previously become fixated towards. “Before anything you have nothing to warrant an apology, nor are you at fault for this unfortunate distraction. Please, you are more than welcome to stay, although I must concede it is a rarity for one so young to have interest in the ways of the sword.” Whilst there may have held a partial truth, in actuality he was referencing to the uncommon of a woman of her age to relay any fascination to the combination of the training he tutored. Upon her apologetic reaction to having neglected her name, the Young Master bowed a brief nod. “A pleasure milady Guan; I am known to most as Master Xingnu although you have not the need for formalities.”

"Then thank you, lord Xiongnu!" She said, flashing him a smile. "Well, tournaments are supposed to be matters of honor, so I thought I'd see the strongest warrior in this part of China." She said, before continuing. "I've been to a fight before, but it was in a foreign fashion, and absolutely disgusting. The men fought nearly nude and savagely. Truly something I do not wish to experience again." She said, shaking her head for effect. "But tournaments held amongst true warriors are supposed to be glorious affairs straight from legend! Hence my interest." She said, smiling and nodding. "So you organized these men, Lord Xiongnu? You seem strong," She glanced at the crumpled man, "But you're not fighting?"
