The battle

Luo Jian rose with the sun, dressing and having his armor fitted one last time to make sure. He had been in so many battles. Striking out against the blinding sun, he surveyed the battlefield, trying to look like he knew what he was doing. He needed a target, Bei usually provided that. Hopefully one among them could lead and direct his sword. It would be the only thought of his brother he would have, win or lose, as he started with the first drink of wine of many until the frenzy of battle.

Luo Bei rubbed his maim leg one more time. He would be useless on the field of battle thanks to his brother. He despise having to put his fate in the hands of strangers. His men were not even forming a proper line. He sighed, surely he had fate on his side at least. One way or another, it would all end today.

Liu Quan rode to the lines with his blade in hand, adorned and ready for combat. He was seated upon a jet blacl horse and cut an imposing figure, looking staunch and without his usual trademark grin on. He approached a contingent of the soldiers that had been assigned to them, men who he had been showing and instructing on a sort of a spearwall technique to be able to move in unison and ensure minimal loss of life. He began to address them, his voice booming out.

"Men! We fight today for a man who has lead this land for years! We fight for honor and for order! They may have the numbers, but we have the training! We have the arms and armor! If you trust in what I'm teaching you, I swear... we will win this day!" Quan continued by riding up and down the lines, lifting his blade and shouting as he got his men riled up for the coming battle. Occasionally he would slow or stop to address what seemed to be issues in their positioning, continually checking towards the leader to get the signal to march.

OOC: Open, if anyone else wants some pre-battle RP on team Jian.

Hao Wen had been doing his morning routine when he noticed the camp preparing for the battle ahead. He fell in line with the other soldiers as he heard someone rallying the troops nearby. His own spear, which was as plain as those around him save for a few aesthetic decorations, felt comfortable in his grip as he listened. He gave a salute to the man on horse as he rode by. "Here's hoping for a quick and decisive victory then."

Quan turned his head as the man spoke, riding up to him and stopping. He had a drtermined smile on his face, like that of one who felt he was getting somewhere with his words.

"Indeed! The quicker, the better. The fewer lives lost, the most I'll feel we've done our job." Quan stopped and eyed the spear as well as the man, seeing his form versus those around him.

"Well met, sir... you seem to be pretty comfortable with that thing in your hands. I take it this isn't the first time you've picked up a spear."

There was a lot of yelling. Jian barely saw the man before him.

"Can you command troops? If so, there or there! Time is upon us!"

Chen nodded and bowed.

"Lord Jian, I am adept at commanding auxiliary frontline troops...archers and other support battalions. This will prove valuable against the enemy."

Hao Wen returned the greeting. "Truthfully, I've only studied how to use this. Today will be the first of what I hope to be many victories. Experience is one of the best teachers, but also a demanding one. You seem more at ease with what's going on here. I think if we work together, we can end this conflict before it gets even more out of hand."

Quan raised an eyebrow as the man spoke, looking him up and down.

"You've NEVER fought before?... Well, if there's one thing I can spot, it's a warrior. I believe you'll be integral to this, to be honest. I've seen several well trained soldiers, and I'm decent with a blade, but I've worried we haven't had a true warrior on our side... until now. You seem to have a gift for this."

Hao Wen twirled the spear idly. "As long as I'm being honest, I should mention that most of my conditioning comes from my family business. I studied architecture under my father, but I aways enjoyed pitching in when it came to the actual construction of buidings. Long hours and hard work made it relatively easy to study martial arts when I was older as a way of disciplining my body. I may have the tools of a warrior, but this battle will test if I have the rest of what's needed." He planted the spear firmly in the ground, eyeing in the direction of the opposing camp. "I'm curious about what we're up against. The younger brother may have some capable people as well."

Quan kept a stoic face, nodding without giving away any of the concern he was feeling.

"They must have at least a few capable men. A man doesn't try and start a revolution without believing he can succeed, so he is either incredibly confident in himself... or confident in those around him. To be frank, either is important to consider, but I'm confident in those Lord Luo Jian has gathered. We have better men and better equipment, and just based on preliminary word I would say we have an advantage in leadership... still, the sooner this ends, the better. The longer it lasts, the longer there is for things to go wrong. We need to cut that chance before it can happen." Quan stared at the man for a moment, then drew his blade. He looked at it for a moment, then back to the man before him.

"I'll be honest, you should be amongst the vanguard. If it should come to a chance to challenge an officer to direct combat, I can see by your form that you'd likely be our best choice. You look the role. To be honest, that alone means they might not accept the challenge... that still works in our favor." He gave a sly and confident grin at this, hoping the man would agree.

Hao Wen nodded in agreement, not taking his eyes off the enemy camp. "I may be a novice of war, but even I know that a quick and decisive victory is rare even with careful preparations. Our soldiers may be better trained but we can only guess what the enemy has in store for us. Hao Wen shifted his gaze to the man, tilting his head slightly in appraisal. "I came here to test my skills. Direct combat seems like one of the best ways to do so. You on the other hand, seem to be quite adept at managing soldiers. I'd guess you're no stranger to the battlefield. It's something I've only recently begun studying. A warrior has worth, but a leader is far more important."
